  1. "Mario's Pool Boy" wasnt bad if only because lawless nearly went nuts.
  2. Wheeler is taking control of this team. If negotiations with Ladd go poorly they at least know who their captain in waiting is.
  3. The demand for an inquest into missing and murdered aboriginal women is a perfect example. It's an idea designed solely to create tension between aboriginals and the "white" government. Harper rightfully said this isnt an issue for an inquest. It's for law enforcement. I've heard many people say why is an aboriginal life more worthy of investigation than a non-aboriginal. The aboriginal politicians will tell you the opposite is true and thats their point. But law enforcement will tell you that missing and murdered women are extremely likely to be victimized by people very close to them. Do we need an inquest to determine that it's mostly aboriginal men killing aboriginal women? I know the implication is the big bad white boogeyman is killing and abducting aborgional women and Stephen Harper is covering it up. But it's just not true. When that poor girl was found on the banks of the river, tell me what the narrative would have been if the perps were white. It wouldnt have been "girl attacked by vicious thugs". It would have been "see, we are under attack by the white man".
  4. That's a very good point. There certainly is a strong belief in that that you do as the Elders say. The non-aboriginal culture has a large aspect of questioning our leadership. That's sort of the cornerstone of democracy. There isnt true democracy in the aboriginal community. That's another reason the reserve system has to go.
  5. So should we call BS each time you post a Bomber rumour?? Should we assume that you have no legit sources because its the internet? Kind of hypocritical of you to roll your eyes at this when you spout mostly rumours on this site with zero sources. If Mike posted Bombers rumours that were never proven to be true, then sure, call BS on whatever he posts. If Mike came on here and said Drew Willy had a drug problem, I bet a lot of us would take it with a lot less salt then the Bogo rumours. Its all about the source. If Gary Lawless said Bogo had a drug problem or even if he said there were serious issues with Bogo that required him to be traded so he wasnt a bad influence on Trouba, we would believe it because we know Gary is connected. Im sorry, anonymous poster on here isnt connected enough. maybe he is, but we surely dont know. As for the drug rumours, the BEST source I heard was "a nurse who works at the drug rehab center at HSC". I heard that from three or four different places and saw it linked to a post on the Dirty. That tells me that no matter how many participants were involved in this big game of telephone, that the rumour originated from the same place and that it was BS. Which is not to say there werent issues. Clearly there were issues with Kane and had he played in Vancouver that day we'd still never have known something happened, so issues can be protected from the public. But I would strongly believe the drug rumours are not true.
  6. Read that TSN1290 reported that the team will NOT be the Moose. if that is true, its very interesting. Do they try and dust off the "Bears" and ask Hersey for their okay? I've also heard speculation that it would be an airforce themed name using the same colour scheme as Jets and a similar logo but with a different name.
  7. This is something that should be looked into. I don't know if it's the best solution, but it needs to be looked at. The trouble is that you start talking about private anything people go all in on the "No American style health care!" rants. There is a lot of middle ground between Canadian and American health care, we should stop pretending it's so black and white. That's the problem. You cant have that conversation. The left is far too dishonest. No disrespect intended but it's true. One only needs to look at Trudeau's shocking nonsense about Harper at every turn to see it no longer matters what Harper says. If Harper came out and said he likes May flowers, Trudeau would find some way to slag him with it. The left would "fix" health care by raising taxes and throwing more money at it. They'd hire more doctors and nurses who would continue to work the same inefficient system and nothing would change. Maybe if we got an extremely strong Provincial or Federal Conservative government that could do what it wanted without fear, we could get some positive change. There needs to be a comprehensive plan undertaken. To be honest, if it was me, I'd form a bi-partisan committee to study health care reform including an audit of how finances are used and the efficiency of how its implemented. Perhaps if it's bi-partisan you might get some common sense common ground.
  8. A lot of talk of Stafford possibly staying here. I know Chevy talked of him as someone he wanted more than as a rental. And the way Lawless talks, if you read between the lines, he certainly seems to think both sides like the situation. The two concerns would be the Ladd/Buff situation and Frolik. But since we know the Jets want Frolik, I think you're correct to pencil him in there. I had suggested Lowry as the eventual 4th line center of a 4th line that was used a lot more. But Lowry seems to have grown into a role better than that. I suppose if Lowry IS the 4th line Center it means the Jets have greatly improved their depth. Long term, that might be the idea with Petan at 3C. On another hand I'd suggest that they'd try Perrault back at 3c and Lowry at wing but they seem insistent that Lowry is a Centre now, period and you cant argue with Perrault's success at wing so keep that together. If Frolik walks perhaps we get Ehlers-Lowry-Petan which would have size and tenacity in the middle and speed and elite talent on each wing. I've heard the belief that Copp is a sure-fire NHL'er next season so there is also that. Another off-season of transition really.
  9. Maybe some Nurse Practitioners working the ER would help. Its probably not too difficult to identify people who can be given some Tylenol and told to go to bed, go see familt doctor or require some fairly quick and easy attention.
  10. Yup. Its not about forcing people to pay. in fact, does it even have to be two tier? What about private delivery of the public system, like at Pan Am Clinic? Let the private businesses cut the fat, pay for the expensive machinery etc. With public oversight. Perhaps better inner city clinics would help too. How many people go to the ER, especially at night for a non-urgent reason because they have no family doctor and little means to get to a clinic?
  11. WWE offers access to their Over The Top service to customers though so that would give you full access to the US version of the Network including all archival content. Ill have to play with it to make sure I can watch it on TV using a connected device.
  12. How is locking a thread always some peoples' default position? Sometimes it's best not to block opinions and just let people learn from each other. I am a pretty big fan of how civil the discussion has been on the 3 or 4 political topics so far. I think it is important to be able to have a debate about controversial topics because if everyone is afraid of differing opinions you'll never be exposed to new ideas. There is also a lot of great information and perspectives in these threads. This is generally a great forum with some intelligent and insightful people on all sides of the discussions.
  13. For those interested, WWE Network launches today on SHAW. Havent seen which channel yet. I did read on the SHAW site that customers will not have access to the Over The Top streaming service which is interesting because I was under the impression that that access was done through WWE.com I also believe that SHAW customers will not have access to any on-demand content at launch. For $12 its worth it for WrestleMania but the real value is in the archival content.
  14. Here's the problem. Just because ten people tell you the same story doesnt mean the story has been independently verified by ten people. This is how rumours spread. I've heard things that are hilarious in how silly they are but its also human nature to want to seem "in". When a co-worker comes up to me and says "did you hear X?" and I say oh wow, thats crazy, where did you hear that? They never say "some dude at the bar on Friday was drunk and told me", it's always "a good friend of mine has a brother who's was actually there and witnessed it!" Just like the Kane/Wheeler rumours. I heard from various "sources" but who's the say they werent all started at the same incorrect place? Because if everyone who claims their buddy or brother or cousin witnessed the incident, then there was a massive amount of people in the room when it happened which just isnt reasonable. Rumours can be fun. But are mostly like anywhere from greatly exaggerated to 100%false.
  15. Also this debate about the Niqab is crazy. Where is the argument about wearing a Niqab when getting your DL photo or passport?
  16. Good lord. Quite a bit of racism flying around here. I love a good debate. A few points: - "Indian" is a loaded term. Its also the correct term legally and one used by the majority of aboriginal people I know (and am related to) but when non-Aboriginals use it, it's almost always with disdain. Dont use it. There are other terms that dont immediately come with racist connotations. - We should be proud to have a society of many cultures and the goal should not be assimilation in the sense that some people are talking here. The goal should not be to make every person that comes here into a white Christian. Every single one of us, Aboriginals included, are not that far removed from being immigrants to this country. Saying that, however, I also believe that if people want to come here, they should want to embrace North American culture (which is not to say "white"). - The Reserve system is broken and can never be repaired. To fix the "problem" requires courage that no politician will ever have because it will likely mean short-term career suicide for the greater good. Aboriginal leaders do not want to fix the problem. They do not want an end to the reserve system which is broken and does not work. The culture of most aboriginals is not the ceremonies and culture of their ancestors. Those aboriginal people I have known who have had success fought hard and struggled to leave the reserve and in many cases were treated as out casts by their own people. The protests that happen are almost always BS. There was a protest a few weeks ago where aboriginals shut down Portage and yelled racist slurs at passing motorists. What point did this have? These protests against the Anti-Terror bill, what point do they have? How many of those protestors know what they are protesting and how many are simply told by their leaders that big bad Harper is out to ruin the poor "Indian"? A friend of mine is a very intelligent, successful aboriginal woman and even she gets caught up in the "us vs them" mentality. She once linked to some protest on FB (cant remember what it was) and was adament that the police were abusing the innocent protestors and to look at the video for evidence. The video she posted so a calm, quiet, professional police force and a mob of aboriginals screaming, yelling, throwing objects, striking the police and many had their young children with them. I realised then that this wasnt a matter of opinion....you can't win a debate when both sides are seeing completely different things. - The residential schools were horrible. They were horrible in idea and practice. No question. Im white and my family has fostered many aboriginal kids. The agency really doesnt care what we do as white foster families (though publicly they dislike it) but we have always tried to respect the culture and taken part in pow-wows, smudgings etc. On the flip side, we've paid for private school in some cases to provide a better education. It's not about being a good aboriginal or being a good white person, its about being a good, educated person. - Anyone who is against gays on religious grounds in 2015 needs to seek help. Period. On the flip side, people crapping on religion and the bible dont get it.
  17. You'd think that would indicate an off-the -board choice. All the usual suspects and best guesses would surely have been sniffed out by now.
  18. Lived in two condos in my life. First one was 1999 when I rented a condo on Plaza drive dirt cheap. My buddy lived there with a room mate who's parents had bought it for her for school. When she graduated, she moved out and I moved in with the idea being the parents only cared that the condo fees were paid. They eventually sold. it was a great complex though with a rec center (pool, gym, tanning, squash court). I was probably in great shape back then. Gf and I bought a condo, also on Plaza but different complex then above (the blue three stories) in 2005-ish I think. I really cant remember what the condo fees were but I think they were half what OP is paying. Problem was, those buildings are so close to the river that they have a lot of issues with movement, floors buckling etc. $400 seems really high for fees in my opinion. Im open to the idea of condo living but would always prefer a house (such as I have now). For one thing, as much as i dislike mowing and shoveling, Im capable of doing it. For another, dont have to worry about neighbours. Also, you have to be careful with the condo boards. The condo we owned had a very healthy reserve fund but because of that, the owners were constantly trying to convince the board to spend it on things like new windows, new patio doors etc. basically, to give it back to the owners. We were lucky in that our treasurer was actually an accountant and cautioned against it. I think we had $300,000+ in the reserve fund at one point but the boilers were coming to end of life and were close to $100,000 each. But every time there was a meeting, people would demand the money be spent subsidising owner improvements. It was a constant battle. One owner even measured everyone's parking stalls to complain that certain people had three inches more space than others. We bought for $80,000 sold it after three years for $110,000 and the guy that bought it was immediately hit with a $1500 special assessment because of issues (keeping in mind they had a large reserve fund and still needed to special assess the owners) and then he sold it two years later for $130,000. When we owned it, the condo fees plus mortgage was so low, it didnt matter. Now, if I'm looking at a condo for $220,000-$250,000 PLUS fees? I dont know...I'd shop for a house for that price.
  19. Heard him on H&L. He gave Gary the gears for not being a Bombers fan.
  20. Cops are human and exaggerate just like everyone else does.
  21. As near as I can tell without spending much time on it, wins by rookies in Jets 1.0 history: Berthiaume: 18 Pokey: 21 Essensa: 6 or 18 depending on when he was considered a rookie Khabi: 8 Hutch is at 20. He should set the record either way.
  22. I love a good mystery, true crime etc. Here are a couple recent ones for discussion: The lead investigator in the JonBenet Ramsey revealed some new information about the case of the little girl who was found dead on Christmas Day 20 years ago. Among the new information, JonBenet was hit on the head and knocked unconscious, then strangled to death 2 HOURS later. So the killer would have had to hang out in the house for hours. Also, when they asked Patsy (the mother) to provide a handwriting sample and specifically asked her to write $180,000, curiously she wrote it out in long hand (one hundred eighty thousand). Was she trying to avoid writing the amount and giving herself away? The Ramseys were cleared years ago, but suspicion lingers. JonBenet would be 25 years old now. AND Four police officers rushing to an overturned car in an icy Utah river say they all heard the same thing: a mysterious female voice calling out “Help,” from inside the vehicle. But the driver of the car was dead and her 18-month-old daughter, while still alive, couldn’t have been the speaker. It was a mystery that continues to haunt the officers – and may never be explained.
  23. But this is how ER works. The most serious stuff gets looked at first and with a broken bone it's generally just a matter of dealing with the pain as opposed to anything being potentially life threatening. They will make people sit in pain if they're not likely to die on them while they prioritize people who might keel over if they have to wait. I'd be awfully suspicious over a wait time THAT long. The implication being that life-threatening issues are continually arriving for that length of time? Possible, but not likely. Especially as stated that the break had other complications due to the age of the child.
  24. They need to devise a way to deflect non-urgent care from the ER's also. I've been in the ER many times over the last couple of years due to having sick and elderly parents and there are a lot of people there over night that "seemingly" are not urgent (I say seemingly because I cant know in all cases). Here's another one. If you are brought in via ambulance, the medics must wait with you until you're triaged and accepted by the ER. It is not uncommon for ambulance patients to be lined up in the back hallway for ages. Which means the ambulance is not able to attend to other calls. Even better, when the medics are doing this, they bill health for it. Why wouldnt patients brought in by ambulance immediately be triaged?
  25. Hutch is a rookie and a good team mate, he dont have hurt feelings. But by controversy I mean the sense that they dont have a starter. As an aside, heard that Hutch has tied the franchise record for wins by a rookie goaltender. Will almost certainly break the record.
