  1. Gotta go with Pavs. If he goes with Hutch and Hutch plays poorly, its a full blown goalie controversy. Pavs played well and has earned the start. Plus, Pavs has admitted that he's one bad goal away from not playing again so the pressure is on him to perform and he usually does better under pressure.
  2. Then you'd have to think at least a revamped logo to sell more merch. Maybe incorporate the Jets colours.
  3. I guess it just seems like more since we had our top D out at the same time and we seem to never have everyone healthy at the same time. Always at least one KEY injury. I'd love to see this team in action with everyone healthy.
  4. I was thinking that too. I guess it depends how much revenue they see from merchandise sales. If its worth it, they would create a new design, new brand and sell the heck out of it. The easy thing to do is go with Moose. The sentimental thing to do is go with Moose. Im sure some in the office are sentimental for Moose. I dont know if Chipman would be since they were called Moose when he bought them. The other easy option would be the Polar Bears since reportedly they had a logo and uniform designed for that name and "Bears" is Chipman's favourite NFL team. Rumour has it the logo and uniform were really sharp. Problem is....there is already an AHL Bears isnt there?
  5. How the police do things needs to be over-hauled as well. I assume the unions wouldnt like it but you have too many cops not actually being cops. I used to have a job where we interacted with the police on a regular basis and I was always amazed at how much time was wasted. If there is an incident that requires a witness report, you'd have multiple officers sitting there doing dictation. We had one incident where I was sitting in the police car. Had probably six cars at our location. incident was long done, cops mostly standing around talking about what happened. I heard a call come in for officers to respond to a serious call (cant remember what it was). No one responded. A few minutes later, dispatch called to one of the officers out our location specifically and asked his car to respond to the call and he replied that he was already on a call and not available. Ludicrous. In another incident, I was assaulted with a weapon and needed a) medical attention police photos taken. The officers transported me to hospital, waited for me, transported me to PSB, waited in line for photos and transported me back to my car. The officers noted their shift had ended a couple of hours earlier and I commented that it must suck for them and they said no, we're on OT just sitting here with you, so its fine by us. I ended up writing up my own witness statements for police whenever they required one from me because even though the cops didnt seem busy enough to have to go back on call, I always was so I'd ask if I could write it myself rather than dictate it. Always went a lot faster. They need to use civilians much more.
  6. Tim Campbell @FPTimCampbell Kevin Cheveldayoff, #NHLJets GM said the returned AHL franchise isn't named Manitoba Moose yet. #bn Pros and Cons to going with the Moose. I know if Zinger has a vote it will be Moose (I recall he fought long and hard for the Jets to be called Moose).
  7. Wow. Jets are friggen snakebit. Has any team lost as many man-games to injuries as the Jets?
  8. Probably no suspension but I think I was against Lowry getting suspended too. Dirty hit though. Not specifically for malicious intent to injure (which is why it wont be a suspension), but when you're going into the boards like that, there is no reason to plaster the guy from behind. I do think in the heat of the moment, he drove into Enstrom and part of that was Enstrom's size. Good penalty. No suspension. For what it's worth, I was at Shark Club with a buddy who is not a hockey fan and doesnt understand anything about the game and he was beside himself on that hit. He thought the guy should have been drawn & quartered.
  9. I voted for Bowman but I cringed when he said that. If everyone is going 10-15 KM/h over the posted speed limit in an area, is it that everyone are law-breakers or is it that the speed limit is artificially low? We all know regular places with traffic enforcement is dont on a routine basis. Why? Because they know its common for people to be "speeding". Why? Because the limit is too low. If it was about safety they'd park in an area where safety is actually a concern. There is a three-way stop near me that has a school at the corner. Every few months, they do enforcement, usually a marked car, to catch people rolling through. I got caught once. I can at least appreciate that this is not a cash grab. Though in my case it was about 4am (why do enforcement at 4am? Because people are more likely to "cheat" at a stop sign). And how about those goofy roundabouts in some areas? Not the large ones, the tiny little ones that do nothing but create a very dangerous situation for vehicles approaching from all directions. What idiot came up with that idea.
  10. Its all politics. Ask the general idiot on the street and he will be scared of "private healthcare". Ofcourse the fact that private delivery already exists is something ignored by the politicans. How many of us suffer an injury go to the ER? Unless it's the middle of the night, we go to Pan-Am. I broke my knee cap a few years ago. Middle of the night. Went to the ER at Mis. Told to come back the next morning because their cast clinic was closed at night. Keep in mind Im walking around with a knee cap that was broken in half. Go back the next day. Sent for an X ray. Back down to ER. Only then when a nurse saw the X-ray image did she react with shock that I was being sent all over the hospital with a broken knee. The pain wasnt too bad and Im not a complainer. She offered me a wheel chair but I said at this point, I can walk down the hall. Long story short, I get a cast that rank the length of my leg from my ankle to my balls. Doc told me to come back in six weeks. Everyone I knew advised me to get a second opinion at Pan-Am but I had been scared off by stories of long wait times. Honestly, wasnt that bad. Pan-Am doctor had the cast removed saying for this type of injury keeping a cast on longer than a week or two would do more damage by atrophying my leg. Even in that short period of time, I nearly fell over when it was cut off and my thigh had shrunk. Had I waited the 6-8 weeks, I cant imagine what my leg would have looked like. If you have standards in place, private delivery of public healthcare is not a problem.
  11. Bottom line to me is that the old laws (distracted driving etc.) were about safety and the no-cellphone laws are about revenue generation. Cops pretending to be beggars at stop lights really hit this home. And I've never been ticketed for either. I know someone who got out of a ticket by doing this. Said the reason she was holding her phone was because she was worried the panhandler aggressively knocking on her window was trying to break in and she was preparing to call 911. Judge threw the ticket out, even with the cop in attendance. That's priceless. If everyone in the city all chose to dispute these tickets, things might change but the city knows most people just pay them because they either can't or won't be bothered to invest the time to go dispute them. A perfect example is the city parking lots. I use the one in Osborne Village a few times per month. Last summer I tossed the ticket on my dash and it fluttered face down. When I came back (much earlier than the time remaining), I had a ticket due to the parking chit being face down. The ticket guy was still working the lot so I approached him and showed him my valid chit and said it just fell onto it's face and I didnt realise. He was incredibly rude. "So? That's your problem" is what he said to me. I said "true, but Im here and Im showing you it's valid. It was a mistake and I apologize". "Not my problem" he said. And walked off. I immediately called 311 as directed to on the ticket. After a lengthy wait, 311 said I'd have to go downtown and request a court date. Keep in mind the fine was fairly small. Small enough that the city knows even though I have 100% proof of a valid ticket, that Im not going to take a day off work to go fight it. I was shocked. Compare that to Empark (who also suck). Once got a parking ticket in their lot (cant even remember why to be honest but I had some excuse for it because I called their number). They had me read out the ticket number to them, typed it up in their computer and since I had no prior excuses, forgave it over the phone. Politicans are so quick to claim "safety" but common sense tells you otherwise. It's all about the money. The LAST thing the city wants is everyone abiding by the letter of every law. Theyd go broke.
  12. Absolutely. Back in my day (lol), school patrol was a respected position. They even had a monthly Captain and if you got to wear the badge, it really meant something. They used to take all the Patrol of the Months out for breakfast with the local community police officer and at year-end they'd have a big party for all patrols. I cant remember what Patrol of the Year got, but it was a pretty good haul. I was a Patrol of the Month, Captain and runner up to Patrol of the Year. *pats self on back*
  13. Great post GCN Marty Gold had a great story on his show, City Circus this past week about ER wait times. I cant believe we're still talking about this. Now it's worse. The wait times posted are a lie. This was a cornerstone promise the NDP ran like 15 years ago. I'd love to know what happens behind the scenes that causes such massive waits. I used to work for Grace Hospital many, many years ago, doing the overnight shift. And the doctors would try to get some sleep when they could. The ER staff would sometimes engage the security staff to locate and wake up the doctor when there was sufficient volume in the waiting room. In other words, if the waiting room wasnt full, the doctor wasnt being woken up. I wonder what would happen if a private clinic opened a 24 hour ER. I bet they'd churn out patients pretty damn quickly.
  14. Suing both I believe
  15. Sounds like their motivation is safety not money. Which is the opposite in Manitoba. They want to trap people and generate revenue. It's disgusting.
  16. Don't tell Ducky who thinks Minn won't make playoffs. Don't tell imPoster that the Jets won....he said their season has ended already.I stand by what I said, Minny doesn't make the playoffs. I predicted many weeks ago that the jets would not make the playoffs. And I hope like hell I'm wrong. Sorry to have a different opinion than you. Don't take it too personally.
  17. Lets hope ehlers can make the jets and they don't have to figure something out
  18. Unfortunate thing about ehlers and Petan is they are not eligible for the AHL. So it's Jets or Junior and both are too good for junior
  19. I must be old because I was thinking Welcome Back Kotter
  20. I think they kept Frolik because of the team they had and the optimism since Maurice took over. If we lose Frolik for nothing it was like getting a rental for nothing but cash. Losing Ladd and buff the same way would be disasterous. And I don't think its old core versus new core. I think they would never trade little or wheeler. Not should they.
  21. As far as leadership goes Ladd is not a fire and brimstone type of captain. Buff isn't really either notwithstanding his move to get kane gone. Not discounting their leadership but sometimes great leaders are waiting for their chance. If Ladd and buff were traded I think wheeler would get the C and trouba the A. Trouba is likely a future captain.
  22. What if Ladd and buff both want 7 year deals? Still okay? What if negotiations are still ongoing at the deadline? Still okay? Risk losing them for nothing? I'm not even advocating trading them but there is merit to the idea. Keep in mind that you don't trade them for nothing. Both are huge assets that would garner a significant return. You hope the two or three roster players that come back take up some of the scoring slack Can't compare to Edmonton. We have way better D and arguably better goaltending. If you're top four D are Enstron, Myers, Trouba, Morrissey for the next 10+ years that's good. If your top forwards are Little, Wheeler, Scheif, Lowry, ehlers. That's pretty good. And bottom line, from Maurice's own mouth this was the plan last season if the team had not improved. So you have to assume it's still a viable option
  23. If you trade Ladd and buff it's an acknowledgment that you might take two steps back to take one step forward. There is merit to that. The jets were unique. A dual core team. Ladd, buff, little, wheeler, enstrom. The older in their prime players. Then the younger guys like Scheif and trouba and Lowry that they drafted. It created the potential to be a playoff team Now and build for the future. Like Maurice said though, if the team didn't get better when he was hired chevy was dumping assets for youth. That's going to be the big decision this summer. If the jets make the playoffs then you take that extra money and you sign Ladd and buff because you can reasonably expect to keep making the playoffs and keep making that money. If you don't make the playoffs then what is the future. If they had two years left no problem. You could give it a shot next year. But they don't. And you can't have two pending UFA's like them hanging over the team at the deadline. And if you feel the team isn't good enough to compete until the youth rises why give two veterans big time deals? Buff, they could weather losing. Ladd....they'd be pretty weak on the left side. Perrault moves to 1LW and you hope like hell Ehlers can step in. I don't envy Chevy this decision. It's going to be a tough one.
