I think you might be misinterpreting their point. They were making that point to show how poorly Edmonton has drafted, and outside of their multiple top 3 picks in recent years, have almost nothing to show from the other 40 (?) draft picks they've made. Contrary to that, the Jets look to have picked up a lot of talent outside of the first round of the draft. From a managerial point of view, these are teams headed in totally opposite directions. I understand that. Their discussion wasnt about the Jets, I just thought it was interesting to take their point and apply it to the Jets who are certainly doing a far better job of drafting then the Oilers but still arent up to the cup contender average. The Oilers are a mess of epic proportions. How you can draft that high for so many years and be this bad is beyond me. If they end up with McDavid, it would be a damn travesty.

Very true. and Im not even saying their plan is wrong. But I think the questions are going to get louder about why management hasnt tried to improve the fourth line at all. They said part of Maurice's job when he came in last season was to evaluate every player and that there could be changes based on that. Well not playing your 4th line guys is a pretty clear evaluation. So armed with this information, Chevy has not made any moves to improve them nor have they tried to bring in any St John's players to compete there. Question is, why? And I can only assume it's this very strict adherence to "The Plan". Another point that came up last night was that cup winning teams have at least 11 (or possible "on average") draft picks playing for them. Off the top of my head, I think the Jets are well below that. So even in the normal course of development, they are not in a position to be cup competitive without more guys coming from internal. My fear is, the Jets make the playoffs and engage in a gruelling 7 game series where they run out of gas. And the questions will all be about how they only played three lines...and had they improved their depth they could have advanced. A lot of "ifs" and "buts" there but I think you'd hope the GM would always be trying to improve areas they know are lacking.

You are all lucky the Jets pulled it out because as I was watching the third period I was preparing my rant for this site. lol Good comeback. Got stoned by good goaltending several times. But once again, the take away for me is the lack of fourth line minutes. Big Show guys were talking about this and if you cant play your fourth line against the Oilers, who can you play them against? If the Jets are in the Playoff hunt come the deadline, they might have to be buyers just to improve the depth. Imagine making the playoffs and being a three line team over an extended period of time? You can almost write the articles now - Jets Run Out Of Gas. And the questions would then be, if management knew the fourth line couldnt play, why did they wait to do something about it. But I thought about this and I wonder if its more of the same draft & develop approach. Ehlers will presumably make the team next season. Let's pencil him in as 3LW with Perrault and Frolik. Lowry moves down to the 4th, likely on the LW with Slater in the middle. I think Slater would play more with better wingers. Maybe a 4th line of Lowry-Slater-Kilngberg or something to that effect. Size and energy. We will know a lot about this team come the New Year. If they can become a force at home, they are going to look good.

I didn't read the comics. But I love the series. Though I think the killing of major characters is sometimes done for shock value more than their claim of "the story led us there".I'm not even comparing it to the comics (which full warning, I do love). It's only drama for drama's sake and it makes me want to gouge my eyes out. But people, you included, obviously still love it Soooo... That's great for amc. Having never read the comics, I'm curious how closely the show follows them? Do they deviate from the primary story much? If you've read the comics, are you not really surprised by what happens in the show? It's different - different people die etc - I'm firmly of the belief it is for shock value/to mix it up for the readers. The show is painfully slow. What I love about the comics isn't necessarily what happens - but how they make you connect with the characters without tons of boring as hell dialogue. That Darryl/Beth crud was nigh unwatchable. Daryl/Beth...you mean their stand alone episode where they were getting to know each other? Im a big fan of both characters so I enjoyed it. I thought Beth was under-used until this season even though she spent most of it kidnapped. It was definitely an interesting idea to hint at a romance between the two characters.

We just finished another round of Super Mario Bros on Wii. Probably the 10th time we've played it through. They should have to launch a new mario bros game every year and not goofy ones like Mario world, just good old fashioned side scrolling mario bros.

Boardwalk Empire's Series Finale was pretty great. Looking forward to BE's creator Terrence Winter's new show, produced by Mick Jagger and starring Bobby Cannivale about the 70's music scene.

Netflix has Marco Polo starting on Dec 12th. Their most expensive show yet. Should be good.

Having never read the comics, I'm curious how closely the show follows them? Do they deviate from the primary story much? If you've read the comics, are you not really surprised by what happens in the show? My understanding is they follow pretty closely. My girlfriend loves the graphic novels and usually teases me with "I know whats going to happen". Sometimes a character will look or act a bit different or die in a different way but at the right time or something like that. Or certain scenes from the comic will happen but to a different character. And ofcourse, some characters in the TV show are original. There is a new series in development that would take place in the same universe but be completely original. I think the things I dont like about the series is the deaths of the major characters. In retrospect I get it but sometimes it seems done just for shock value. And I found the last couple of seasons sort of repetitive - group confronts "evil" group, fight happens, people die, hope is lost, move on. And yet I really like the show. Its definitely cliched and unabashedly plays emotional games. But it works at pulling you in.

I would certainly agree at this point. However, even if they win every game, I'd still trade Buff in the off-season. LOL That would be odd. Unless the Jets are cup contenders in the next year, there is little upside in keeping Buff.

Ugh. So disgusting. That said, even though I brought up Ferguson, to start going into the nuances of that case will really get us off track... EDIT: And the other thing to remember too -- people in Ferguson aren't rioting because Brown was murdered and a white cop got off. They are rioting/rioted because it is YET ANOTHER time something like this happened in that area. These incidents don't happen in a vacuum. It's a Doug Berry-esque powder keg that's been built for a long time. Nah. I dont believe the majority of rioters are rioting for any reason other than their own desire to cause mayhem and for others perhaps being caught up in it. This isnt social disobedience to effect change. Its lawlessness for lawlessness sake. The father of Brown demanding the crowd burn the place to the ground wasnt a call for justice. It was a call for violence. -

This is all very wrong. There is a Ferguson thread for this discussion. Im cant tell you what is in Wilson's heart. Is he a racist? How do I know. How do you know. I suppose he is a six year cop without a single issue on his record, driving around all that time waiting for his chance to murder a black kid and start a race war. I suppose that is possible. On the other hand, its more likely that he was responding to a call, knew the description of the individual wanted who physically assaulted the store clerk (rather than just shoplifted a couple of cigars) and was assaulted. Wilson did have probable cause. Firstly his contact with Brown came about because Brown and his friend were walking down the middle of the road and swore at the cop when he advised them not to walk in the middle of the road. is that a good reason for police interaction? Maybe not. But it's still legitimate. Wilson had the description and saw the cigar box in Brown's hand. Probable cause. We can debate this forever but the available evidence does not point to a race-based murder by a cop. -

Doesn't that make just as much sense as what you said? Yes, because for the last 200-400 years it's been the blacks and natives in positions of social, economic, and political power. * *And yes, that was dripping in sarcasm. OK, but it's not 200 years ago now. How equal is equal enough before you will start calling minorities "fricken losers" like you just did towards white people? Also, why are we talking about this here? Come on man. I didn't call white people fricken losers -- I called young, smart white men who sit around complaining about affirmative action fricken losers. And please -- go tell a black person in Ferguson, MO that "its no longer 200 years ago." In what sense? That a thug who breaks the law and attacks a police officer is allowed to get away with it because he's black, the cop is white and there is a racial devide in the city? No, in the sense that "racism doesn't exist anymore cause it's not 200 years ago" something a lot of white people say -- without ever even stopping to ask a real-life black person if they feel the same way. Yes thats true, Racism exists. I dont know any sane or intelligent person that would say it doesnt exist. There are many examples of racism today against every enthic group including whites. I think you then get the push back from the white people forgetting that yes we are the power group essentially. But the issues in Ferguson arent because a white cop defended himself against a black thug. The issues are far deeper and greater than that and nothing will change because its all wrapped up in the nonsense of this one cop sought out to murder a black kid. Thats not even the issue. -

I've known many Aboriginal people that disliked many instances of affirmative action in their favour. And really disliked the actions and words of many other Aboriginals. Its a balancing act because what the government did set Aboriginals back terribly. I understand the point of making up for that. The problem is, the "guilt" and the racial stuff that crops up when anyone tries to really change it. The reserve system is a joke and needs to go away. Not tomorrow. But there needs to be a generational plan. Because the effort of the government to help and empower some people has created a series of little dictatorships and terrible living conditions that are never going to get fixed. Ive known several people that consider themselves "escaped" from the reserve. In fact, a couple of people I knew when we were in our early 20's and they werent ashamed of their ethnicity but they werent exactly proud of it. They wanted to make it without their ethnicity mattering. When they were older they became far more active in their old communities and very much embraced their ethnicity in an effort be a positive role model. But that generall started with get the ef off the reserve. -
The Walking Dead had it's mid-season finale this past weekend and AMC p!ssed off its fans and had to apologize. I find it very interesting. After the show had aired on the east coast, AMC posted to "social media" (The CNN article didnt specify where but Im sure I saw it on Twitter) an image showing a character with the tag RIP, spoilering which major character died. There was apparent outrage because the rest of North America had not seen the episode and AMC had to apologize. So my question is, if you absolutely want to avoid spoilers, why are you on social media an hour before the episode airs? Im a spoiler junkie though I try to avoid spoilers about TV shows that close to airing but I caught the image on twitter before I watched the episode and while I was suitably shocked, I wasnt angry. It probably made me less angry than I would have been had I not been spoilered as I did not like them killing that character. Regardless, the episode drew over 14 million viewers.

To who, for whom? To whomever will pay the highest price. Philly and Boston have both been linked to him and both have interesting players. I'd see if a bidding war develops around the deadline though that can be a hard time for teams to part with their own players. At the latest, I'd do it at the draft where teams are more likely to part with assets. I think we have a few pieces we could throw in to sweeten the deal too, such as Burmi. Name names. Who would we get to compensate for the loss of Buff? I hate to fantasy trade because it always turns into a pissing contest. But from Boston I'd target some combination of Marchand, Krug, Smith. And thats just off the top of my head without looking at contracts. I know Loui Eriksson's name has come up with rumours with the Jets before and he'd be good for now but I dont see him as a fit on the Jets. From Philly Id target Courturior, the Schenn's, Read. I think Buff gets you a top six/top four, prospect/young player, pick.

Another horrible decision by my favorite team. Disagree. I like the idea of wanting improvement but there will always be someone somewhere that somebody would Argue is better than the guy you have. I don't think marcel was a negative thus I am fine giving him another season. Walters needs upgrade the talent. I have a position contrary to yours, but am unable to express it in a wildly irrational manner, so it probably does not fit in with the tone of this thread. I dont think my point was irrational so Id certainly like to hear yours. Im somewhat biased because I've met Marcel several times and like him personally. But I like the hiring at the time and I still do. -

What does "support a gay lifestyle" mean? In regards to the question posed is hope everyone can admit they are able to identify when a person is physically Attractive regardless of gender. Doesn't mean you are sexually attracted to them. Personally I believe everyone is probably "gay" to a degree. Some all the way to one side or the other and some somewhere in the middle. It's sort of moot trying to pigeonhole a definition especially when cultural, religious and other considerations skew things for a lot of people. -

I wonder if the Jets would be looking to trade Budaj by the deadline to a team wanting a veteran back up. He was clear insurance if Hutch faltered but I think we can safely lose him at this point.

I completely disagree with you. I think the fact that there is a 5-page discussion on a players sexual orientation and not a single post saying or even implying "keep that ***** away from my team" is pretty fricken awesome. SEC defensive player of the year? Yeah, dude can clearly play football too. That's a good point. A forum I used to post on earlier this year has several members who were homophobes including a moderator. This place is much more in tune with modern reality.
