  1. Earlier this season it would have been a no-brainer start for Pavs - a big game against a very good team. So this is a mindset change for the coaching staff and likely a show of condidence in Hutch. I hope he plays great. I'd love to know we have a future Starter on our hands with him
  2. So underwhelming. I watched it, so excited (hitting refresh for an hour waiting for it) and when it was over I felt....not even sure what. Watched it again. And again. And I realised I was disappointed. I dont know if they showed too much for a tease but they showed enough that the things they didnt show were glaring. No original cast members. No original droids. No hint of Like or Vader. The hilted lightsaber is stupid. The CGI everywhere is a huge disappointment. It looked too slick and sterile. It looks like JJ is going to do for Star Wars what he did for Star Trek. And thats not a good thing.
  3. Its Hutch in net tonight against Boston. So here we go. We either solidify Pavs as the starter or we officially have a goaltending controversy. Which will it be?
  4. Kinda sad that you had to include a warning to the Mo Price'ers out there. Im not familiar enough with Sam's level of skill but Id presume he's good enough for the CFL so if he can play well, great.
  5. He's 47 so not so young. It's the black hair dye & funky doo that he wears I knew he was 47 but its fairly young. People love a comeback story, maybe not as much in Canada as the US but assuming he escapes jail time, he will be back at some point. Im somewhat mystified at how he's handling this though. I think he's either received some bad advice or he's ignored the good advice. He should have known what was coming and immediately checked into rehab, threw himself on his sword and apologized. Thats his real chance for a comeback. It also doesnt hurt in court if you're seen to be trying to make positive changes.
  6. To who, for whom? To whomever will pay the highest price. Philly and Boston have both been linked to him and both have interesting players. I'd see if a bidding war develops around the deadline though that can be a hard time for teams to part with their own players. At the latest, I'd do it at the draft where teams are more likely to part with assets. I think we have a few pieces we could throw in to sweeten the deal too, such as Burmi.
  7. Controllers don't really bother me either way but undo prefer the Xbox. Just feels more substantial in my hand.
  8. It's always uncomfortable bringing dates home when you live with mom.
  9. I like the idea of playing Hutch. But if Im the coach, smart money is on Pavs. If all things are equal and this week they were both good, you go with your starter.
  10. You know what I really think? They should trade Buff.
  11. You think Ritchie Miller was ever biased towards the Bombers? I never noticed him.
  12. Staff used to say, the easiest way to get hired by Canad was to first get fired by Canad. That place recycled its staff like crazy. One day you're a bouncer. Next day you're a manager. Day after that you're a bouncer again. Hilarious.
  13. Why is it the anti-trade people always seem to want to push the idea that its all or none? Someone suggests making A trade to improve the team and people say "you cant trade away all your players" or "you cant trade your way to a contender". Head scratcher. No one is suggesting either. Without going through each of those players, I'd assume they are top trade targets because they are going into UFA status. Those arent guys we should be trading for unless its a salary dump by a team willing to provide other incentive. The Jets are not at the point where they should bring in a player to improve our odds of just missing the playoffs. They should, however, look at what they have, where they're going and who they should have when they get there. And thats why, to me, Buff should be traded this season, the off-season at the latest. You seriously believe that Jets Management are not doing this "They should, however, look at what they have, where they're going and who they should have when they get there" If you believe they're not you seriously have to give your head a good shake. Just because YOU think Buff should be traded which you have said over and over ad nauseum...doesn't mean that hockey minds better than yours agree. When was the last time you made a trade that worked? Show me where I said they arent doing that? And yes, you're right. Im not an NHL GM so my opinion doesnt matter. None of our opinions matter. If you've never played professional hockey at the NHL level, you cant comment on NHL games. *rolls eyes*
  14. Anti-trade people? These story clips that I laid out there are the stories that are out there at this time. They are reporting the trend in the NHL at this snapshot moment. You could spend time analyzing the lower tier of teams, the middle tier, and the upper layer, but it is a very complicated process based on a lot more than "we should trade so-and-so. The salary cap era has made trades now, and for the future, a lot more of a factor than in the past. Everybody loves a good trade, it's just that teams are not all in the position to make these trades..at this time. I certainly agree on that. Which makes the Jets' position even better. Buff has a great trade-able contract. When Edmonton finally gets off their ass and does something, perhaps it will start a chain of events. But they are so bad, they should probably not try to get just good enough to miss out on McDavid.
  15. I tend to agree with this. The only caveat to this is that he has two years left on his contract after this season. And Im not sure the Jets will be able to unload it. At $3.9 million it's not "terrible", especially the way contracts are going. They might be able to get someone going into the playoffs who want an experienced back up, but probably not until that final season. So there isnt a huge rush since the Jets are unlikely pay two guys starters money. Hutch has one year left until RFA. i'd think theyd want to keep him as the clear back up until negotiation time, sign him to a 3-5 year deal at a reasonable "back-up level" cap hit and go from there. Also, Mike, I'd say the Chicago game was an example of Hutch being pretty spectacular. But even then, his saves were "mostly" solid positional saves. Last night in the third period he made some big saves but they were, again, mostly being in the right place, playing "large" and having the puck hit him. But he's pretty good and staying with his man and and not biting on fakes too.
  16. Yeah but that game was sort of the exception. Even Blake Wheeler, after the game said it was difficult to consider it a loss.
  17. Remember Leo's pipe dream of the palace on Canad property that wasnt going to cost anybody anything? I read somewhere else where there was a lot of speculation that Canad had spread themselves too thin with their rapid expansion and that the HSC property was not doing well. I believe they hold the right to develop at McPhillips Street Station also and have delayed that project. When I worked there, the younger brother was essentially the bars manager and you always got the sense that there was a disconnect between the two. Then Ron quit the family business. Curious about that one.
  18. Well that doesn't seem to be the norm, rather the exception. Not morons, thieves. Im not sure we can say his parents were malicious. They certainly used his money to their benefit but to a degree that was manageble if they were smart. A $1,8 million home? Manageable. Couple of cars? No problem. They took out bad loans to pay off other bad loans. Spiraled out of control. I think some parents look at their kids' success as a group effort. No doubt the parents made sacrifices and spent a lot of money developing their kids' skills. Its when they start having an air of entitlement about it that problems can arise. You see it with kid actors too. This isn't a rare thing. The good thing is, Jack Johnson is young and will likely make many more millions and be fine.

  20. Not improving? Jesus. Excellent analysis. have the Jets improved on their status as a middling ranked team the last four years? Before you answer, re-read the question.
  21. Not ridiculous at all because it speaks to a bigger issue. The snapshot of a game with the 4th line playing 3-6 minutes is no big deal. But when the coach specifically claims his team collapsed due to fatigue and he further admits he's been riding his top three lines and you realise he has little faith in his fourth line, there is one of two problems. Either the coach is bad or his assesment of the fourth line is correct and they are not good enough for the NHL.
  22. Definitely agree about the #2 guy being the most popular guy in this town. The love for Montoya was bordering on lunacy last season. I argued on another forum about that when people were ripping the team for not signing him and pointing to his wonderful stats this year after ONE game...lol Some goalies are career back ups. Sometimes they can eventually get a chance to start again and carve out a good career. Montoya probably isnt the latter. Hutch is a very interesting player. Lawless was discussing him yesterday and was reading an analysis of Hutch but I didnt catch who it was from. But basically it was describing him as so-so to good in most categories and made the point that sometimes a back up looks better than he is because its easier to mentally raise your game with less work. And once you work more, the goalie will come back down to Earth. But Hutch is only 24. Was in the ECHL last season. His rise has been meteoric. To me, he plays bigger and more positionally sound than Pavs. I think hutch can have an off night and still be okay because he'll be in the right spot to make a save even if he isnt on his game enough to make the spectacular save. If your team is playing well, the goalie wont have to make too many spectacular saves. If Pavs is off his game, it's usually reflected by several goals. I've been a defender of Pavs from day one. I wasnt ready to give up on him in the off-season (partially because we had no replacement and partially because I thought he deserved the opportunity to rebound). At this point, I think we can say Pavs is a second tier starter who is mostly "good", occasionally great and sometimes awful. He is streaky and you never know what you're going to get. Hutch has shown he is routinely good. Smaller sample size. Aside from that first game, he hasnt played a bad game here. We need to see him have a couple of bad games and see how he responds. Personally, I'd start Pavs tonight. if Pavs is spectacular, I'd start him on Friday. If he is anywhere from bad to okay, I'd start Hutch. Pavs is usually better with competition. I think its worth giving Hutch more work to see if he has starter potential. If we assume Hellebyuck is pencilled in as the franchise starter moving forward, we need someone between Pavs and him. Hopefully it's Hutch.
  23. We have a team on the ice. We should trade Buff for assets, be they players or prospects or picks or all three. Nobody is suggesting trading away all veterans.
