Yes. That is a good description of what happened. It is a sequence of events less likely to occur when you have film on your opponent and can anticipate tendencies.

I see things differently on the replay. Thomas for sure got pushed back and he was partly double-teamed. Then he was illegally held, but no call on the hold. Perkins release through the gap couldn't be blamed entirely on Thomas though. Hurl got boxed out because his reaction time was too slow. And Bruce Johnson had the wrong angle for his lateral pursuit - also because he was too slow to react.
-
He was in for a few plays in Q1. Pointed him out to my seatmate. "There's Poop." But you're right. They didn't use him much. He got slight pressure on Franklin once or twice stuffing up the middle and snagged the RB on one run.

Johnson burned for 2 TDs last night. One pass and one where he blew the angle on the Perkins 49 yard run. Although to be fair, Hurl and Westerman also were trapped on the Perkins run.

Yes.

I hope we can do better than Lankford on returns. Thorpe - the knee did not look good. Which is too bad because I wanted to see what he had. Won't be surprised though, if he is done.

Was at the game. Bombers O line is in good form, hope they stay healthy. The running game is excellent - Harris and Flanders took full advantage of the gaps created by the line. Overall, the offence looking pretty sharp. Conversely, the defence is woeful. Last year they relied on turnovers but gave up the big play. If anything, this group looks to have regressed. Virtually no pressure up front or contain. Esks rook QB Kline reminded me of Tom WIlkinson - pudgy little fella but put heat on the ball in a way Wilkie never gcould. He had all day back there to throw. Hurl is not good enough to play MLB, Edmonton's O line was batting him around like a flea and he was either out of popsition or too slow to react to the play. Not sure if it is poor personnel or poor coaching but if I was MOS/Walters I'd be pretty worried right now after what I have seen of the D vs Riders and Esks. Honestly, I don't see this team making the playoffs with this D - it's bad.

Game day vs. Edmonton GIF thread

So glad FOOTBALL is back! Going to the game tonight with my bro. Prediction: 27-13 Bombers and each of our QBs drives for a TD. -
Bombers cut Apodaca, Frederick and 9 more

Hopefully Thorpe is healthy and shows enough to push for that rotational receiver/returner role that McDuffie played last year. I am curious to see what Thorpe can do although his durability and conditioning apparently is an issue. Same with Sheppard. Thorpe has a history of foot injuries. And Sheppard keeps getting nicked too. -
PreSeason Game 1 vs Rider Depth Chart
Doublezero replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Bridge showed flashes with the Als. I thought Riders were smart to snag him. Bennett too has all the physical tools. It'll be good to see how both of them respond under the lights. -
I thought so too. But depth charts for the Als last season show K. Stafford and Nik Lewis platooned, with both lining up at at that same SB/DI spot. Pretty sure Stafford was a flanker with Esks though, IIRC.

Thanks Atomic for pointing me to Imgr. I think I got it now. I wast trying to post a pic from my computer home, there was no external URL. But IMgr fixes that. Thanks All!

Happy memories of many Blue Bomber TCs. But one stands out. I got detailed personal instructions from the HC on route-running: "See the goal posts and end-zone way down there at the other end of the field? Yes? See the tunnel under the stands? Run to the tunnel. Go in it. Keep fading. Follow the tunnel and then go outside the stadium. Keep running for several city blocks. Fake a left turn and cut right. Cody (Ledbetter) will fake it to you." Needless to say, I got cut shortly after.

Well the post showed up but the photo didn't. ... Anyone?

Can someone instruct me on how to post a photo from a file into a post here? Tnx

Beauty! Thanks for filling in those details. I never did see that actual game but listened to it on radio from somewhere in the US - Montana I think. I just remember JFG made the catch of a lifetime and helped nail down a big comeback. Speaking of former #5. It'll be interesting to see if Drew Willy can make progress Toronto if Ricky goes down. I was never, ever, a Drew Willy fan. So if, by some miracle, he turns it around in Toronto, I will be shocked and there will be some crow to be swallowed.

One more thing on the pick by Santos-Knox. I happened to be standing really close by so had near perfect view. He was downfield covering 30-35 yds from the LOS. Receiver had position on him and it was a nice throw to the outside over the defenders head. Santos-Knox was was beaten, playing catch-up. BUT he stayed with the play. You could see a flash of deflation in his eyes and body language when the receiver extended to make contact the with ball. But then it bounced off the receiver and Santos-Knox was in just the right spot - kept running and didn't let up - and had the presence of mind and quick reflexes to snag it. That was a good football play and shows that if you play through with effort and don't let up - good things can happen. So great. Football is here again! Also, I assumed Santos-Knox was playing WIL LB. But I did not see the defensive formation at the snap. He could have been playing halfback.

Nice! Yes I am a fan of JFG. There was a game 2015, I think vs Hamilton - he made a clutch catch in the dying seconds for a big win. But he has made a significant number of clutch grabs even though he does not see the ball go his way too often. The thing I like is that he appears to be fearless. And also dependable. Very few drops or bobbles. JFG always fights hard for possession if contested. That drove me crazy about Kohlert last year - ball kept sailing through his hands and into the waiting mitts of a defender at the most inopportune moments.
-
I saw that too. Apodaca was switching his hold position from left to right - practicing taking the snap from either side. I have not seen that before. For awhile he was taking the snaps one-handed: catching the ball in his right hand and smacking it down for the hold. Guy has obviously done this before. Earlier in the 12x12s Santos-Knox snagged a nice i/c off a throw by Davis - receiver had the ball but popped it up and Santos-Knox was in the right place with good reaction to snag it. I was surprised to see an LB covering deep like that. Pic was not the Qbs fault. In fact, I thought Davis looked good today. Took most the reps from what I could see. He was putting the ball in tight spaces and looks very comfortable running with it if necessary (and sometimes when it is planned). I was sorry to see G Sheppard and TJ Thorpe still nursing their wounds on the sidelines. At least Sheppard had his helmet along today. Clock could be ticking on those guys. They are not going to make this team from the tub. But then, there is an extra week of "camp" due to the 1st week bye. New guy, #74 Daniel Williams I think he is, made a great grab on a bullet from Davis. That guys looks very smooth considering he has only been here a couple of days. I had a brief chat with Julian Feoli-Gudino. I gotta say that guy has made some clutch catches for this club in game action, and looks pretty consistent to me. He said the players are expecting big things this year, fans are going to be in for a treat. It is a bit hard to see nuances on the sidelines at field level - players seem more vocal than I have seen in previous TCs,

Thorpe and Sheppard still out with injuries, I believe. Both have not practiced for the past 4-5 days.

Around The League Off Season Discussion
Doublezero replied to Bomber_fanaddict's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Wonder if there is a stat for interceptions that were bobbles by the receiver? I'm thinking of 2-3 balls last season that passed directly through Kohlert's hands and into the hands of a defender. Clearly not Nichols problem. But a major reason why Kohlert is no longer with Bombers. -
Dangerous but gutsy to keep running with one shoe. Especially for a guy who has broken his foot, twice.
-
He was out, but smart and kept burning it down the seam. Kept it inbounds here http://www.redskins.com/media-gallery/videos/WATCH-Thorpe-Escapes-Defender-For-41-Yard-Catch/5c5b19b3-ff1b-4002-a689-fa89f9916068
