  1. When Bombers renegotiated with Willy last year, Kirk Penton reported (quoting sources) that Willy's salary for 2016 would be $410,000 for this season including performance incentives. http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/05/01/bombers-sign-qb-willy-to-extension I'd be pleasantly surprised if Bombers clear the air for everyone and trade Willy - but seems the base pay package might not be a barrier for another club to pick him up.
  2. Enjoyed hearing the QBs and huddle banter. Here We Go Razor Lucky 44 Woodie Ringo Indian on 3 - you might know the play but you don't know when its coming.
  3. I'd be pleasantly surprised if Winnipeg deals Drew Willy. But a change of scene probably would be good for everyone. It was clear his team-mates lost confidence in him.
  4. Interesting that CEO-President Craig Reynolds had to cut short his vacation to come back to Regina to try to put out the fire caused by Jones and the roster violations. Middle of the CFL season seems like an unusual time to take a vacation.
  5. Sorry yes Darvin Adams.
  6. You might be right. But who sits if Smith plays? And then, as others have pointed out, you've got Dressler, Denmark and Smith all similar stature. And as the OP noted, you probably want a mix of speed, physicality and experience. The question may be moot since Chris Adams appears to be out long term with that mangled shoulder. But the question was: who plays assuming everyone is healthy?
  7. In the CFL you need a decent QB to win. Otherwise, you lose. Bombers are an excellent illustration of this. Poor play by the QB drags the whole team down as players lose confidence that the O can muster anything. Decent play by the QB lifts the entire team.
  8. So we won the last 3 games despite Nichols? Give your head a shake man. He was forcing things and a bit reckless with the ball last night. But he still threw for 2 TDs, fed the ball to Harris and managed the O decently well. The fact you now have a functioning QB has given the entire team a lift, whereas players previously had given up on Drew Willy.
  9. That is such a great shot, in so many ways.
  10. That's probably the best receiver group for the reasons you suggest. Wish Dressler had stayed healthy so we could have seen more out of him. Not sure he still has it, to be honest, based on appearances this year to date. But then we didn't really have a functional QB til the last 3 games and then Dressler got hurt right off the bat. Someone should file a Missing Persons Report on Kris Adams.
  11. FWIW, not everyone thought Willy was the guy. Some might have thought he never, ever showed enough to be a starter.
  12. Or Special Teams maybe. Like Jordan Lynch. Get out there and deliver some hits on punt cover. Earn some respect from your mates and fans.
  13. Unreal, KG throws not just one last minute pick - but two! Including the pick 6. Classic Glenn.
  14. At some point if Nichols can't go, you have to trust an unproven Davis or Bennett. These guys are the future. Willy had his chance. It was excruciating to watch and it was apparent that Bombers players also lost confidence in the previous starter - so why would you go back to him? Would it give the team a lift? Not to mention the fact that the fans have moved on: http://www.kijiji.ca/v-hockey/winnipeg/2-winnipeg-blue-bombers-drew-willy-signed-jerseys-for-sale/1187968008?enableSearchNavigationFlag=true
  15. MOS might go with Willy if Nichols can't play but that would be a mistake. His team-mates checked out on him several games ago.
  16. Got bored and did not watch Riders-Stamps to the end. It was just sloppy football, too many officiating interruptions etc. Zero inensity. Ended up feeling wistful for the days of Liske vs Lancaster, Reid, Buchanan and Evanshen.
  17. Bryant Turner Jr. gets 2 sacks vs Als and says on TV: "Thank-you Wade Miller - I love you!" Kevin Glenn almost throws a pick 6 in the final 3 mins, reminding of the KG we sort of fondly remember.
  18. Good recruiting and roster management has been obvious last few games. That 6 game injured list is scary long and some of the so-called replacements look like they belong. In fact many of them are playing at a higher level than the team-mates they are replacing. D backfield is a case in point. You've got Randle out and Johnny Adams has yet to play - who do you sit to make room for them? Or do you?
  19. With Hardrick out, the flaws in the run game were exposed. Plays taking too long to form, also Harris may not quite have the wheels he had a couple years ago. He's a spark though, and peeled off some nice single-handed gains. But ya, run blocking looked sloppy. I'm going to cut everyone slack due to the long delay in starting the game and lateness of the hour.
  20. I'm thinking of players in the tradition of Flutie, Ham, Moon - guy doesn't have to be a bruiser but D has to respect the threat that the QB might run and actually win a successful foot race for a first down. So to me dual threat equals mobility and escapability - but not that the QB is always going to run first. If the O can scheme around a QBs athleticism, so much the better. Who is a dual threat right now? Collaros (assuming he comes back OK) Reilly, Lulay, Jennings, Cato. Burris and Durant could and would run successfully earlier in their careers - and defences learned to expect and respect that threat. You've got guys like Lynch, Franklin, Davis and Bennett who are athletic. Those are the kinds of QBs that Defences have to think might run.
  21. Dual-threat QBs are exciting to watch and best suited for the CFL. Experienced coaching helps: and a few ex QBs at coach or GM - Huffer, Dickenson, Austin, Milanovich, Maas
  22. Yes he did http://www.winnipegsun.com/2015/11/06/qb-dominique-davis-performs-well-in-first-cfl-start-but-bombers-lose-season-finale-to-argos
  23. My reply was to those who keep repeating that Drew Willy was on fire and pretty much single-handedly won a bunch of games for Bombers in early 2014 and wouldn't it be great if he could return to his old form etc. The idea that Drew Willy orchestrated 5-6 wins early in 2014 is a myth. He contributed majorly to a couple of them, for sure. But Bombers needed outstanding play - and, most importantly major scores - from other elements of the team. So yes, I agree with you - it doesn't matter which components of the team win the game for you - unless you attribute the win (as some have) to the play of the QB which in a few of those early 2014 wins was less than stellar, very average and nothing to write home about.
  24. What I meant was Randle took a pick to the house for six points, and without those points we would have lost the game because Drew Willy and the O didn't generate enough points to win the game - so the win was a direct result of the D adding scores. Otherwise it would have been a loss. Another win (in that early stretch of wins in 2014) was the result of a Demond Washington kick return for a TD. Without those 6 points Bombers would have lost the game because the O could not generate enough points to win on its own. There was a another game where the D was responsible for the win too.
  25. Not to quibble too much about that winning run but without Defence and Special Teams - pick sixes and kick returns for TDs - Winnipeg would have lost 3 of those games. Because the Offence didn't score enough points.
