    Covid-19

My cousin has dementia - I just visited him before this broke out. He's probably scared right now and wondering why no one is visiting him. Do you think they deserve to die alone while we hide from covid? Should we not find a way to secure their health AND let them see their family? If we really lived in a world where we could save all covid patients and not hurt anything else, sure I would support that... But aside from being willing to destroy businesses, put us into a structural deficit which will result in health care cuts 5-10 years from now, likely a recession or depression, etc etc etc... We are running out of blood supply, medical supplies are being diverted just to covid, CT scans are cancelled and other tests, communities are going to run low on food - we have a shitstorm of problems on the horizon... My business is fine - booming in fact - but I see every restaurant, bar, storefront, contractor, etc shut down in Whitehorse entering the only real time of the year we have to make a living... the price will be far higher than the government can cover.

What point are you making besides once again being morally outraged without actually thinking through the post? I'm responding to 17to85's suggestion that we shouldn't care that we destroy someone's small business because it will just be replaced by another. So if you're going to start ranting about me wanting to kill people with dementia or some crap like that. Just. F**k. Right. Off.

What kind of a monster do you have to be to shrug off willfully destroying someone's life's work? Where do people go once their small business is destroyed and they're say 506- years old - work at WalMart? We absolutely have to be addressing the long-term care home situation... 20% of cases are over 70 and they account for 80-85% of deaths, most of those in nursing homes and most of those due to overcrowding

So we shouldn't let one person die of covid - even if they are 80 with dementia... but you're cool with letting someone's life's work and likely savings be destroyed... Hmm.
  7. I still think there should be an 'all-Canadian' option for this season - border is going to be closed for a while.

Sweden has over 900 deaths actually... Denmark and other Scandinavian countries have about half the death rate that Sweden has currently Switzerland who was one of the first to lock down has a higher death rate - not sure why... But to everyone arguing about percentages etc right now - this is pointless, each country has different testing standards and rates Sweden is likely testing a lot less so its case rate is lower and mortality rate looks higher than Switzerland, etc... The data being used is a complete mess all over the world - we have no sense of Covid really, and won't for a long time
  10. Biden is literally the only Democrat that could lose to Trump... same as Hillary If Obama and Kamala Harris can carry him, there's a chance... but I have yet to see an interview where Biden does start mumbling like Grampa Simpson

Wow. We are about to watch Trump steal $10 trillion right in front of everyone... and then get thanked for it

Well... once you look deeper into these countries... Copenhagen and Stockholm - have about the same population and urban density - so they are very comparable and very comparable to Toronto Both cities have about half the population density as Milan - the epicentre in Italy. Covid is an urban issue - even the rural municipalties in Italy did not get hit hard...

I was just reading this article - super interesting. Sweden does look like they will have to back track... unless that curves peaks this week. Denmark and Finland appear to be relaxing measures and re-opening schools soon.

    Covid-19

We are now one week at an infection rate of under 10% - last two days are five per cent If you eliminate long-term care homes, there is almost no spread of covid We do not need to keep increasing controls on our freedoms - the basic lockdown had immediate effects, we need to look at a strategy to protect seniors and open society again by the end of this month

Denmark has a much lower death rate but also a much lower population density
  18. It’s this attitude that will harm us -dividing canada by borders and regions - garbage and selfish.
  19. Well for one thing the vast majority of manitobans do not have covid and if you feel sick in any way you should isolate plus if you’re going to your cabin let’s you should be quarantining for a week or at least the weekend - it’s not too much to ask for people to bring their own supplies again no one is checking into the ICU in their cottage country hospital - I think there is a massive understanding of how this virus progresses
  20. He's our new Patrice Cormier... we'll see him on the Jets for a few games here and there for the next decade

    Covid-19

Yeah the sky is falling... if someone feels ill they are not checking into Kenora they will drive back to Winnipeg - rural hospitals just tell people to go home anyway people with respiratory issues and elderly people should be staying close to home - if people own homes there that is their choice I really hope no one is going for a day trip to kenora

I suspect the Italian death rates are skewed as well... Black car rolls up... ’yeah we gotta a dead guy - he got the covid’ ’umm sir there’s an ice pick in his eye’ ’preexisting condition now if I says he got the covid he got the covid capeesh?’

    Covid-19

No offence, but that seems a bit of a sheltered view We live in a 'just in time' world - that means that developed countries do not have massive inventory etc... so rely on constant supply from overseas factories. Once that demand drops, the supply chain shuts down and lay people off (obviously without any CERB type of help)... people make **** all producing the items we want - so they are sent home with essentially nothing to survive on - i.e. the current case in India Even for the subsistence farmers you mention, the coming wave of price increases for staples - due to current wastage and an increased demand once we recover in the G7 - will be enough to push many of them past the brink of a survival economy. Same as the demand for medical supplies - the west is drawing a MASSIVE amount of medical supplies currently - US blocking Germany is mild compared to the diversion from the poorest nations simply based on free market demand/prices

    Covid-19

Would be really important to see graphs with cases/recovered/critical/death all laid out Given the 2-10 days for symptoms and then another two weeks to death after that - numbers that came out of China fairly early on... So we are still only seeing the death rate for 'no response' - it is much lower than predicted and not increasing exponentially - very good news. The 'no response' ICU/death rate should continue for another 7-10 days In two weeks, the national death rate for Covid should be extremely low if lockdown is working - which it seems to be... Ontario/Quebec infection rate is under 10% while BC is down to 2-3% 60 patients in ICU, around 150 hospitalized at peak now consistently dropping It seems like 20-40 more deaths in BC and then it drops completely off if Horgan did things right
