I really wonder if it would be worth it for the CFL to reinstate the 'marquee player' idea but limit it to nationals... then at least you are competitive with the NFL for your elite Canadian talent... like would a team consider drafting Justin Senior or Anthony Auclair if they could compete with the NFL and sign him for $300-350k? Muamba and Laing are probably still with their draft teams if they're at least in the ball park of NFL minimum... maybe bombers really look at Auclair or Herdman

From Scott Cullen... Blake Wheeler and Mark Scheifele - The Jets forwards both put up a goal and two assists in a 3-2 win against Philadelphia. Wheeler has 15 points (5 G, 10 A) in the past 11 games and Scheifele has 21 points (4 G, 17 A) in the past 15 games. Sure seems like Scheif is the key to production... really think its a shame Maurice split him and Laine up, they were on fire. Probably cost Laine a shot at the Calder.

Actually I was just summing up the conversation in this thread... Not sure why you're so down on Winnipeg - if Chevy actually made a real push in free agency, Winnipeg could sign Darling for a slight overpayment. Not a huge market for starting goalies this year imo. If there was one goalie to try and sign, its Raanta anyway. But Darling would be great. Setting the sights on Condon or Budaj is treading water imo... those goalies will quickly become 'mortal' in a Maurice defence.

Definitely not defending Neufeld... my whole argument is that I'd replace him with Ruby or Foucault in a heartbeat then maybe one of them beats out Hardrick in TC... not handing a starting job to anyone.

Ruby wasn't turnstyled against Westerman... I thought he had a decent game considering the difference in experience. Foketi was serviceable, I agree - but I'll always take an national over an import. A full season at LT still far outweighs Foketi.

Based on what....? I'm interested in your opinion but I'd like to see something that backs it up - I don't know much about Foketi. What sets him apart from Ruby or Foucault? His NCAA experience? The fact that he's American? Or the three CFL games that he's dressed for?

It looks like Kavis is going import tackles and national LB... and OL is still a deep position for them. If a Mulumba or Boateng is still there, I think they'd do it. To me, Ruby or Foucault are an instant and significant upgrade vs Neufeld...

Tackle is not a plug-and-play position - I'd feel a lot better having Ruby as our backup RT if Hardrick goes down I'd almost guarantee that Hardrick would get eaten alive at LT... don't judge Ruby because he played the hardest position on the OL in his first full season. Our 6th pick is still not a sure thing - lots of the top players have NFL dreams... 24 is still young for an OL - he started off strong but just got overwhelmed by the end of last season imo.

Yeah. Sure thing. Ruby started what 15-16 games last year at LT on a team with no receivers... Sweet asked way too much from him. I'd take him as backup RT and give him a shot protecting a QB not named Rakeem Cato. He'll be a starter at RT in this league in a year or two imo.
