Hall most likely to be new DC (Now Official)
Floyd replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If we sign Heenan, Benevides will be our new DC... heard it from Lawless. -
Actually, if you still have to pay a plumber if they don't do the job... CFL is pretty much the only professional left where you can get cut on performance or budget circumstances
-
In the short term... but I think teams start playing 2-3 import OL in the next ten years of CFL. Top draft picks will be non-OL because teams know that NI OL can be found in later rounds... there's only one LB, REC or RB in a draft.
-
So you're saying that three years in the NFL hampered his development...?

As what? Cuz special teams ain't available here. DL coach? Lb coach? Db? Doubt it. Why not... our ST is nothing to write home about -
Philip Blake signs with Als... wondering who gets bumped? Matte ends up 'injured'?
-
Burke overpaid for Kessel and then forced him to be the #1 guy on the team... same thing would happen if we tried to build a team around Kane or Wheeler and a bunch of truculent grinders. As soon as Lupul is down, Kessel has no one to work with. Leafs have a crap roster, don't give prospects time to develop and trade picks for 'character players'... that's not Kessel's fault.
-
Oilers were saying that Draisatl had already played in two World Juniors and they felt NHL time was more valuable... no biggie.

So the guys I listed won't 'do whatever is asked of them'? Sorry, but I'll take Derek Jones and Teague Sherman over Tristan Black and Labbe any day. We already have Dan West and Tim Cronk, there's your Labbes... Labbe was a better player than any of those other guys you mentioned. In Joe Mack's mind maybe... Sherman has already proven he's better than Labbe, Jones will seal the deal this year

How can we accurately compare Washington & Leggett when they have different jobs? How often did Leggett have to cover a receiver 1 on 1? I like Johnson, but I think it'd almost be a certainty he'd lose his job before Washington if we had to make a change. He lost it last year for awhile. Lost his job to injury last year not from performance... Johnson is totally under-rated
-
Why? Because 20 of the 44 players on the gameday roster are backups and special teamers. So if a guy is really good in that role, you consider it. Being not good enough to be a starter does not equate zero value to a club. If your starters aren't good enough to be starters, that's a big concern. Why? Because Jones, Sherman, Briggs, Cornell and Newman all have more potential to be starters than a 30 year old journeyman... not too many ST/Backup LB/DB spots left
-
Doubt Fitzgerald makes it through training camp... can't long snap and is just not fast enough - would have been a good 6th round pick Would say Briggs and Cornell have better chance at being 'long snapping depth' after Cronk

Riders release; Bombers sign Dominic Picard

Tricky part with Heenan is that Roughriders have so many 'non-contract' incentives from local businesses that its going to be tough to match, Winnipeg will have to offer a huge signing bonus - like $100k or more... I think Holmes is a much more realistic target - if you cut Morley and January, you cover Holmes $$... Import-Greaves-Picard-Holmes-Import (or Neufeld?) is a very good line -
No one was actually bad mouthing Labbe... I just don't want another career ST vet Labbe, James Green, Tristan Black, etc... all great guys, just not good enough to start We have Jones, Briggs, Sherman, Newman and likely two more draft picks this year - why even think of signing a 30 year old free agent
-
Um, Washington is good but not better than Leggett... toss up between him and Johnson I think this is a good signing but I think if anyone gets beat out in camp, its probably Washington - if we go NI safety, then Leggett should move over to HB
-
Still think Sherman could step in and replace Dunn in a heartbeat... and I have high hopes for Briggs at MLB someday

I think this is a shrewd move by Walters... Sign a top NI centre and then let his salary leak - gives more incentive for guys like Heenan and Holmes to test free agency Bombers still have cap room, more than a lot of other teams - Sask, Hamilton, T.O. - I think we have a good shot at signing one more OL -

Classic forum - picard has been one of the best centres in the league, gets cut only because of cap and we all agree that morley after one season at centre is the better option... After all of us calling for morley's head for the last four years ha -

K-Groh is just not good enough... Gott or Picard can play guard as well - nothing wrong with an interior of Deane-Gott-Picard, move McMillan to RT, draft more OL Picard will probably cost $130-150k - not sure that breaking the bank on Holmes or Heenan is the right move for Ottawa, they need receivers and DBs Burris may die this year if Picard is one of his Gaurds From excitement! -
