That's why I hate 'bend don't break' defences... I didn't want Etch or Marshall... but they are still better than Creehan's 'scream until you cry' defence.
-
I don't think we've ever played a game with Knapp and Jones at guard and tackle. They played opposite tackles when January was out for a bit in the 2nd half of last season. Maybe you're right... I thought we started 3 import OL for a few games last year though. Regardless, Knapp looked dominant at RG and terrible at RT. Vice versa for Jones.
-
Hadn't heard that but makes sense. The real question... and it has been an issue for some time is why are we not training another OL as a long snapper. Wouldn't Swiston, Hinse or (especially) Goossen make sense? Hinse has exp at Centre already. I know OC and LS are different positions - but you're still kind of reading and reacting to the play, getting game experience...
-
I might qualifty this a bit... Sherman and Bucknor are considered depth, they have over-achieved (and possibly performed better than Newman or Alexander would have). With Jones emerging and even Briggs, our D/ST cdn depth looks strong to me. Walters has done a pretty good job with building Cdn depth in one season... somehow we just ended up with no depth at import RB or REC - which is baffling. Of course, the OL is exempt from all of these statements. And has been for five years now... I mean the 'core' of our OL are still two guys that Kelly brought in.

ISO's credibility meet flaming ball of fire.

How bad are Swiston and Hinse that they can't break this lineup... Morley seems to have plateaued as a Centre or he is nicked up too. Time to admit that January is on the downside of his career unfortunately. Just put Knapp and Jones back at RG and RT, it was working well at the end of last season.

O'Shea heated in CJOB post game interview
Floyd replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The point of this thread is that OShea has just turned into Dave Ritchie. Love it. -
We had that QB draw play called before the refs iced us because of their incompetence. Since we did not have a timeout and also a rookie QB, it seems like the play did not get changed... it had a chance to work the first time, not the second time - Hammie was waiting. The tough love has to be on: 1. MB's refusal to move the pocket or get creative with protect schemes - our max protects and double TEs are stale and actually result in more pressure on Willy, not less. Start using two backs, everyone else has adapted except for MB and Mike Gibson 2. Etch needs to realize that his schemes are used by a lot of teams now but that this focus on a specific 'type' of player is a dated approach. Laurent and Gaydosh are giants that also have speed and agility. Plus, I have yet to see any of our DL drop into coverage as was alluded to in the pre-season. 3. Maybe Pat Tracey is just not good enough.
-
Oh, I bet we see some 'tough love' in ST drills this week. I'm sure I saw Pontbriand playing SB for a good chunk of this game, like pretty much blocking the way Watson usually blocks but also actually running routes.
-
OShea has approached this team as 'one of the guys', maybe its time for tough love at practices.

and he got the win, didn't he? What point are you trying to make? Me - ONE and SIX What did Collaros do to actually contribute to that win? Pretty sure their only touchdown came off of a blocked punt followed by a blown assignment in the run defence that was a 20+ yard TD from Madu. We gave up 5 sacks and had 15 penalties for 130 yards. The fact that we even had a chance to win this game shows the QB Willy is. If we were to get six wins all season, back in June people would have taken that easily considering our roster and record from last year. The team we see now is the team we are. We exceeded expectations at the start. There are holes on this roster in terms of Canadians, receiver depth, and the offensive and defensive line. We'll get there. Quarterback is not in any way, shape, or form the issue on this team. My point - You need to get a clue, because you have none. Remember the thread about keeping Renaud? You proved your knowledge of this football team in that thread considering he can't kick off or kick field goals, nevermind the creation of this thread which quite frankly goes beyond stupidity. Really Mr. P. 9 Td's in 12 games, and 11 int's, if you want to talk stats. Only stat I care about are wins and loses. You are so smart you dissed me about Crompton remember. Don't look now but Crompton is only TWO wins behind Willy. I could care less about stats though - it's wins. And Willy is 5 and 1, now 1 and 6. I have the clue you don't. And don't call me stupid it's an opinion mr arrogant Actually if you take the time to READ what I said, I said this thread was stupid. I never said you we're stupid.actually every item you referenced and the way you put your post together you pretty much called him stupid, you know it, i know it we all know it. Play with words all you want. There was no personal attack or personal insult in anything I said. He made his points, I made my counter points and explained them. Welcome to a discussion on a message board. Like I said in another thread this afternoon, I'm not going to apologize for making counter points to posts that someone makes. If someone gets offended by that, then chances are they need a thicker skin. This isn't daycare. Its your profile pic that makes it personal.

Comes down to this... the holding call on JFG, the icing by the refs poor clock management, the playcalling miscommunication by MB/Willy... lots of factors. You can't lay it on the QB.

Truth be told I actually liked Marcel's adjustments this game. Hamilton was blitzing hard because our line is a joke, then Marcel started calling those crossers to Bryant and Grigsby. Hamilton had no answer defensively and couldn't figure out what we were doing defensively. We just ran out of time. This is not necessarily counter to my point... MB does make decent fourth quarter adjustments but it takes him too long to sort things out. We always plateau in the second and come out really flat in the third. By the time he adjusts on the fly, its already into the fourth and we're in comeback mode.
-
Very true and if we only finished the season with 1 more over Ottawa, I'd take that too. But I still say we got issues with not diversifying our run game and using 1 back way too much. I say, pull Grigsby when we're down in the goal line and feed the ball to Volny or Pontbriand. We need a big boulder running down in there who will run defenders over and push piles into the EZ. That's not Grigsby's strength and we need to get Carl or mr M down in there bulldozing it. It actually seems to me that both MB and Etch have not changed as the game has changed... MB's run game is pretty conservative. Again, we need a power back for these schemes - how is that not sinking in with the brass. Etch's schemes don't seem all that crazy anymore, lots of guys using different formations but not leaving as many gaps. Either way, it was ST that lost this game for us.
-
I don't disagree but that time count was inexcusable and you can't expect to win a game when you score 11 points. Its only on him for not calling a timeout... MB is just as much at fault for that and for the game.
-
I don't mind Bellefuile's playcalling but his halftime adjustments are not good - always out-paced by the rival DC. Bellefuile is the same MB we've always known, a decent playcaller who is just not good enough - the Kevin Glenn of OCs

Doege is worse than Sunseri. -
You can say that again. I don't care what anyone here thinks, or MOS for that matter, we are one and five in our last six, the one being a weak win over Mtrl that started Alex Brink. Furthermore, that's with our all star QB Drew Willy at the helm. I'm not dumping on him, he's far better than anything we've had here since Khari Jones (even Buck sorry Buck but it's true) but he hasn't been very good this last few weeks and if you're honest with yourself you'll (generally here not you bannatyne) would see it too. WIth Willy starting, at home, against Hamilton, a team you 'should beat' is a MUST WIN game. We lose tonight, we're done. That's it. And that is not a defeatist attitude, it's a fact. I actually think Willy has been nicked up for almost all those games... and we just keep playing, he keeps getting more worn down. Hamilton is surging but I do think we 'should' beat them, if we lose by 'bad luck' its one thing, if we aren't in this game - like the last one - then some serious head scratching needs to start. And what's up with no GDT...

Should The Redblacks Start Joey Elliot This Week Against SSK?
Floyd replied to USABomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
With the lead up that Desjardins had... over a year (?), he should have been able to find some gems - playing Dobson Collins and Marcus Henry as your main guys is just ridiculous. Only good receiver they have is Wallace Miles and Mack/Walters scouted him. Just scanning the scrap heap... Greg Carr, Jamal Miles would be upgrades over that crew -
