When someone equates me being a bandwagon fan for calling out our coach for a bad call I don't give said person much credit.why was it a bad call? What would you be saying if we went for it on 3rd and a long 1 and got stuffed? that it was a bad call to go for it and we should have kicked the fg?I would have said we deserve to lose. If you can't make a yard in the CFL it's time to make changes. The defence has to line up 1 yard away for Christ sake.yeah so damned if we do, damned if we don't. Your assuming we would fail on 3rd and short. In that scenario blame shifts from O'Shea to our offensive line. I mean Christ, really?

Agree. Walters miss the boat on Messam. I dont agree that Volny can make the same production as his. With Messam instead of Volny, pretty sure OShea goes for that 3rd and 1...

Good summation and for the most part Etch's system works well. The weaknesses of his defence to the run has been well known for years but few teams have invested in the running game as heavily as the RRs so it isn't often exposed. When he was originally hired my hope was that O'Shea would reign him in somewhat and I still think before the end of this season that is going to happen. The Bomber D is making personnel changes on almost every play to adjust to the game but they just don't have the heavy horses to deal with a strong running game like Sask. has. This is something that can be improved and it's hard to believe Mike O'Shea is going to stand pat with the current lineup after witnessing that last drive. Hopefully Walters will be filling the P.R. with "meaty" LB candidates by seasons end. In a way this back to back series with the Riders is a blessing because we will get to see how Etch copes with a repeat performance. I sure hope we see Kromah and Sears in the lineup for the Banjo Bowl... Would like to see this front seven... I'd even move Fraser or Vega inside just to see if it works. I like Greg Peach but him AND Thomas are too similar to have on the line together and just not quite fast enough. Anderson-Thomas-Vega-Turner (with Vega and Turner rotating) Sherman-Kromah-Wild (with Sears rotating) Others might disagree but I didn't see any closing speed from Kuale or Dunn and I also put that Taj Smith TD on Washington feeling like he had to cover for Dunn as much as anything. If your WIL is not getting tackles, he should be getting QB hurries or sacks... Dunn is just not performing.
-
Agreed - but Etch relies heavily on closing speed, Wild and Sherman have it, Kuale and Dunn do not. Fix that and then we can truly judge this year's schemes. That and finding the bomber version of Chick/Bagg would definitely help... I kind of wonder what Anderson and Turner at the ends would look like.

About 4 minutes left in the half. Grigsby had yet to touch the ball on 2nd down and wouldn't until the second half. We had a really nice mix of run and pass in the first half and for most of this game... I don't mind the 2nd and 3 call at all. The only missed call in this game was time management just before the half and not trying to get a mid-range pass to get us into field goal position. The George sack was a coverage sack because I think we were looking deep and not 8-10 yards. I wouldn't say nice. 6 carries on first down for 12 yards. It was predictable. Bellefeuille adjusted in the second half, working in playaction on first down and running on second down. Well, I will never argue that we need a new RB... I am officially off the Grigsby bandwagon. But, I still like MB - he ran outside a bit, changed it up - called a screen or two on first down. I mean not as predictable as Cortez putting Messam in on first down and Dressler on second... If MB has Thigpen or Messam, its a different game. I would also venture that if we had Matthews or say Taj Smith instead of Kelly, its a different game as well.

With a few teams already in rebuild, maybe Walters has some trade bait.... Alexander, Newman, Renaud, Suber...? Any of these guys would help Ottawa. If Watson stays healthy one more game, I would dangle him to Ottawa I know they just extended Shologan but maybe we can pry him out of there... provided his knee is just banged up. Maybe Conor Williams? Would love to snag Nolan MacMillan - to me, he's a bright spot in Ottawa this year...

Seriously I thought all free perks had to count against the cap. Wouldn't it be easy to provide use of a house and car to a player and not have it count otherwise? Sask has been doing that sort of thing for years. I loved the way TSN highlighted all of Sask's cap violations... I mean they were lame - carwashes and paninis... but still -
No worries, that certainly isn't a Sask. original, borrowed from the Packers, Raiders, Bengals, etc. Definitely not as original as #WinnipegStrong... wherever that went...

RedBlacks Nation? Seriously? They finally get a different name from Saskatchewan and now use the same fanbase slogan...? Oh CFL.

Max Hall must be turning down CFL job offers. Still trying to dial the phone with his noodle arm.

One team said we're going to play the game simple, we're just going to pound the ball right up the middle. In that situation you don't mess around trying to outsmart anyone, you just line up and beat the guy across from you. Etch though doesn't believe in playing D that doesn't try and confuse people. Confusion only works when the other team isn't trying to just play smash mouth football. Etch didn't consider that Sask. could gain 7-8 yards on first down every time and they did this mainly because of undersized Bomber LB's and poor positional play. Kuale spends more time up on the line than he does back were he belongs this is why he ends up with so few tackles. Wonder what's the potential of Sherman gaining 25 lbs. over the off-season like Mike Reilly did? I actually think this will happen... If it does, I could see Sherman winning a few Canadian of the Week awards next year - he might even get one this year if Etch reels his schemes in a bit. Kuale is definitely not an 'undersized' MLB... A rotation of Wild-Kromah-Sears-Sherman would do wonders for this team... Kuale and Dunn have to sit, just not good enough

Signed to RedBlacks practice roster... only a matter of time before he's the starter!

Confusion only works when the other team isn't trying to just play smash mouth football. We are pretty much on the 'Etch' schedule this year... he starts big, teams are confused, D looks good... then teams figure him out mid-way through the season and Etch kind of retreats to a more traditional zone defence... by the end, he regroups and his playcalling gets better as a 'hybrid' of crazy and zone Hate to say it but with this personnel, a Stubler D would be pretty dominant
-
Yeah... I saw that... not sure how to take that after 160 yards rushing?
-
Kuale is absolutely worthless out there. I'm so sick of seeing him making one of his very few tackles during a game (usually after a decent gain) and then showboating afterwards. His emotion means nothing if he doesn't do his job. Perhaps that's the one personnel decision I can hang on Big Mike O. Kuala basically hides behind his d-line and gets caught up in clutter. Hardly ever shoots the gap like great MLBs do. Jacob Kromah must be total rubbish for O'Shea to roster a hobo like Kuala. Hahahahahaha funny nicknames. You're so funny. Kuala hahahahaha

I expected us to stack the box almost every play... or at least once.

Just keep handing off to Volny... what could go wrong...? Why would that be your call on third and less than one? Its not... and its also not 'less than one', that was a full yard crap spot. But even if you get the first down, Volny is your starting back - I'll still take the points instead of gambling on a fumble or interception... we had already lucked out on two fumbles. I, for one, honestly thought Etch had an answer for Sask's late game running - he didn't....
-
Cortez seems to have Etch's number.

Tackles are a pretty 'basic' stat... but says enough about LBs Wild 7 tackles, Sherman 6 Dunn 2, Kuale 1 Replace Dunn and Kuale, we get better.

That TBrack offside was horrible. -
He wasn't the only one. You happy with the call? Yes, actually. Sask has one of the best DL in the league... everyone would be barking "We have the best kicker in the league and OShea puts in Marve... what was he thinking? Wah" In the following drive, Sask gets a great spot for 3rd and inches and then we are still one sweater grab away from stopping them even then. Then Kuale's offside I believe and wheels come off our D. OShea coached a good game. So did MB. It was Etch who was too conservative this game... that and we have some personnel holes to fill.

Well, we should be up for a week of 'Sky Is Falling' posts... so I better get this in here. Offence - Bellefuile called a great game - Willy just gets better and better - if you can't see that, not much I can say... - Kohlert will be the new Rob Bagg next year - Moore is our new Corey Watson - Kelly needs to be better - Jarvis Jones - why has he sat until now, far better than Knapp or Howard - Still not seeing Grigsby's blocking but he is hitting the line better Defence - Etch played zone way too deep, left our DBs trying to turn and pursue imo - Durant missed some wide open deep throws - Bench Kuale for Kromah, Dunn for Sears - we are instantly better - How can Walters/OShea say that this team does not have a place for Alex Hall... I like our DL but Thomas, Peach and even Anderson not getting any consistent push ST Horrible in the first half, good in the second LH is money I still say we are a 'very well coached 3-3 team', suspect D schemes and sure could use a couple NFL castoffs (DL, wideout) if we want to compete. Great game with some tough breaks - its Labour Day. Closer than I thought it would be.
