  1. Except Hall rarely takes the out pass...
  2. Robertson released? Does he have eligibility? Or are we just not into a 5'6 DB... I thought he was decent enough to keep a spot at least for another week. Another new bomber era erasing all signs of the last one...
  3. Probably should have played through the flu. Oh well. The real revisionist history in all of this was Mack's version after the 2012 draft talking about 'not having enough firepower' to trade up to #2... Wally gave up 4, 14 and 38 for 2 and 20. Mack gave up 8 and 13 for #3. Pretty comparable... if Mack heard that Buono was chasing Edmonton, he could have easily offered 3 and a 3rd for 'his guy'. All armchair GM stuff, of course. 2012 was not a 'weak' draft... the first two rounds were very strong. Been noticing a bit of a trend that second rounders seem to end up contributing sooner than first round players these days... Walters is still overpaying but, man, am I glad we've moved on from the Mack era... just too bad it took so long.
  4. I love this article... Kings have never talked about moving Richards or buying him out and they are not in cap trouble - unless they decide to keep Gaborik, which I doubt they will. More space will be freed up by Willie Mitchell too... they have another cheap year from Toffoli and Jones if they choose. Lawless had a few drinks while watching the game and wrote an article. The end.
  5. Hutchinson deserves to at least be our backup next season - and a legit chance to win the starting spot.
  6. For the most part, I don't think Etcheverry thinks in those terms, what the defense is willing to give or bend but not break. IMO, his scheme is all about throwing the offence off-balance and making them guess, basically having few tendencies that a QB can read pre-snap. That's basically the opposite of Burke's D, which relies heavily on players to win 1 on 1 battles and really doesn't break tendency or engage in psychological warfare too much. Etcheverry also has a lot of reads built into his scheme, so he's relying on his players to see certain things and react properly according to what he wants, anyone anywhere can basically end up doing anything, blitzing, dropping into coverage. If Etcheverry was a hitter in baseball, he's looking to slug an extra base hit or a home run every pitch, whereas a guy like Burke is going to take a couple pitches and just try to make contact or get on base. He has some other core beliefs too, smaller and faster is better than bigger, slower and stronger being a huge one, and he applies that to every position on the field. I totally agree that Etch doesn't think like that... but 'bend but don't break' is what it ends up being. Its a ton of different formations that all seem to fall back into a fairly basic system imo... like a 'Super Fantastic Mega Zone' system. Interesting... do you think he goes so far as to leave it up to the players to decide when to blitz? Still say, that we start wacky, teams figure it out, Etch reels himself in for about four or five games and then goes nuts again.
  7. I'm a bit confused at the secrecy surrounding Etch's defence... I mean he's been in pro-football for what 30 years now?? Off the top of my head, an Etch defence sits back for the most part, willing to give up 4-5 yards on the run but focuses on converging to the ball carrier with his DBs deep enough to get an 'angle' on the ball. We will give up yardage but - and I hate this term - its a bend but don't break D. He needs good penetration from his DEs or the system pretty much collapses if the QB gets too much time. His guys will lineup in crazy formations but almost always drop back into this same strategy. After a while, the formations don't quite seem as dramatic although he will send his LBs on a blitz fairly regularly. If we don't get pressure from the DL, Etch will start sending everybody regularly and it will get ugly... so ugly that the 'mad scientist' will be running a pretty normal CFL zone defence by Week 17... Lots of people know more about football on here - so feel free to correct me, if you think this assessment is off... Basically, if 3-4 guys - like Randle, Leggett, Unamba and Kuale - really 'get' the system and thrive off of their instincts (which is pretty much all Etch's system asks), we could be good. But this can go off the rails really really fast.
  8. Yep, thought so. Playing career over. Kind of like Hall's playing career was over... until Mack dug him up
  9. Ah, I did think he was an NI... bummer.
  10. Darrin Bauming @DarrinBauming Add January, Moore, Volny, and Peterson to the lengthy #Bombers non-practice list. Lone returnee is Kuale.
  11. Darrin Bauming @DarrinBauming #Bombers still out: Sears, Vega, Alexander, West, Eisho, Briggs, Ford, Watson, Renaud.
  12. Nice report - aside from the Friesen poop jokes. Did you notice where Peterson #51 is slotted on the OL...? I'm kind of intrigued by that guy now - thinking he ends up on PR or maybe even 6th. And Alexander - playing or injured?
  13. Hey, I'm cheering for Banks... he just reminds me of Jovon, that's all.
  14. Knapp is not better than Jones... no reason to have Neufeld at RT if we are playing 2 imports Jan, Greaves, Morely, Goossen or Neufeld, Jones Sure there is. Neufeld is actually a good tackle, we don't have any other Canadians can play guard, especially if Morley starts at C. Right Guard is about the easiest position on the line to fill... put in Goossen, Neufeld, Peterson, CK... I will never argue against a 4 ni OL... but if we play 2 imports, it has to be Jones imo - that guy has a higher ceiling than January. Knapp looks fine at guard but he got torched at RT last year.
  15. Now I like him even more.
  16. because any OC that sees him out there is going to pick on him... No, I mean besides those plays, ha... either way, he had more ball awareness than Banks or Dunn
  17. Knapp is not better than Jones... no reason to have Neufeld at RT if we are playing 2 imports Jan, Greaves, Morely, Goossen or Neufeld, Jones
  18. He came in when Hall did... I didn't see him at RT until mid-4th quarter - was surprised that Stevenson stayed in as long as he did. Peterson played over half the game at LT
  19. Rewatched a good chunk of that game... I think Pencer is toast. He was schooled on the sack - no excuses... not getting upfield much And... well, Jesse Peterson and Dale Stevenson appear to be ahead of both Pencer and Neufeld on the depth chart as tackles. Peterson looked 'okay'...
  20. Just watched Marve's three minutes... his OL was Peterson-Everett-CK-Pencer-Neufeld There are no excuses for Hall and Brohm's garbage.
  21. Right now, I would have Wild-Newman/Kuale-Unamba penciled in
  22. Watched the first half again... Defence Unamba really pushing for a job, Washington, Leggett and Newman looked decent Suber wasn't as bad as he looked - had some good plays, he was around the ball a lot... Banks reminds me of Jovon... really a step behind on almost every play Wild did not look comfortable at MLB Both Markett and BJohnson start looking better as Argos field more third stringers... jury is still out Thomas is just a shade too small but okay to rotate, Moseley and Peach played well and had some nice ST Bucknor makes some smart ST plays Offence Why didn't we move Morely to Centre a couple years ago... I'm impressed. We got away with two interceptions in a row... Jarvis Jones will be an all-star Knapp is a dirty player, I'm fine with that - still no place for him in the lineup though Trying to figure out if its miscommunication or if Willy is underthrowing a bit... will find out soon enough Our OL did some really nice stuff - long time since I've said that. Urrutia will make us forget Matthews Hall might have looked better with the first team OL... Stevenson repeatedly schooled at RT - why Neufeld was at RG, I will never know... he was having a hard time Goossen is our fastest OL on our B-team
  23. It's a 4th rounder, going up to a 2nd rounder depending on playing time this season. I said 4th rounder because I don't see Brohm playing enough to change that. Wow. Walters overpaid for a lot of guys this winter... guess that's the Mack fall out - I hope.
  24. Its conditional right? I mean I sure hope we didn't trade a 4th straight up... so many average backups out there...
  25. I thought WIlly looked quite good - some inconsistent throws but I really liked his decision making and confidence. Never liked Hall, noodle arm and locks in on his guy early... will always be victimized. Brohm - bye. Marve - more please. Good: Cotton, Feoli-Guilino, Markett, Denmark, LH, Sherman, Goossen, MB's Playcalling Bad: Etch's D, Dunn, Banks, Volny, Tarver, JJohnson, Suber Wouldn't say anyone else really stood out one way or the other... I won't hang Pencer out to dry because his whiff could be as much on mixed signals as anything... I sort of see the purpose of playing 3 import OL to protect Willy but didn't see the benefit of Saulsberry, Stevenson, etc in the second half... unless we really have given up on Pencer
