  1. This all goes back to Bauer when he canned Richie - contrary to Taman's wishes - because Smilin' Dave wasn't getting us a grey cup fast enough... cue Jim Daley! And on it goes...
  2. But that was also the logic behind Lapo hiring Reed, Walters, Barresi, etc... good working relationship - except somewhere at some point you need support staff with real CFL experience at their position - Lapo's crew had CFL exp but all of them got promotions at once... so all were learning together, it just doesn't work Burke did pretty much exactly the same thing... except with less CFL exp... just can't figure out how we didn't learn...
  3. Its really hard to say... but your point about surrounding yourself with experienced coaches is kind of key to anyone's success... Look at Chamblin in Sask, Milanovich in T.O., etc... Even just looking at our coaching staff, we have so many guys with absolutely zero CFL experience and even their US college experience is not top tier... Hladio, Plemons, DelMonaco... Look at Calgary's coaching staff, they have a nice mix of experience, some US influence and a good core of ex-stamps or guys with Calgary connections Burke made a huge mistake bringing Creehan in... maybe with an experience DC and Creehan back at LB coach, Burke could have concentrated on coaching... too late now. Starting the season with rookie HC and essentially rookie OC and DC... well, it cost everyone their jobs.
  4. Not to defend Sleepy Joe... at all... but its a bit strange this whole 'we don't have the talent' and chicken salad/chicken **** thing now... In the off-season, Burke and Mack talked about their great relationship, how maybe Mack had too much influence with Lapo (basically admitting the Kent cut was a mistake...), etc etc Clean house after the Sask games... Only coaching survivors should be Dickenson and Bellefuille, replace everyone else as soon as bodies become available
  5. He was 16 for 26 tonight... and 21 for 25 against BC... I know Mack is gone and it hurts... but no reason to just make things up... Now look who's looking for things that aren't there. Your reference to all things Mack is weird because my post had nothing to do with him...at all. Take another look...it's a Buck playing reference. You know Buck gets the reps, backup QB invariably has to go in, is not ready, looks unprepared. Are you getting the drift now? As for making things up? Collaros looked good against BC didn't he? They had a great game plan and even when things broke down, Collaros was able to scramble and get it done. All in good game preparation. This game Collaros was thrown in after Ray went down, probably with little game prep. He looked no where near the same. Sure, he was able to hook up on some throws, and his scrambling was still there, but if you're telling me didn't play more like a rookie this game, you're off. I've got nothing against Collaros, he might even be pretty good. Too soon to say for me. But my post was strictly a comment of what usually happens to us with back ups thrown in and in this case, it happened to Toronto.
  6. A bit surprised that Carter is not getting a look this week... even if its just to send a message to Poblah and maybe Etienne Also, surprised that Green and/or West were not bumped off the roster for Sherman or one of our new LBs... ST has been pretty lack lustre
  7. T.O. didn't seem to have a run game other than Collaros...
  8. If these are the candidates, I might stick with Burke... Swap Bellefuile and Burke back to DC but doubt that's an option... Maybe Chapdelaine... but really if there is progress with Burke this year, stick with him... otherwise, Bellefuille - he is the best choice of guys with CFL experience Assistants... maybe Campbell, Dyce, Maas, Nelson - hard to say...
  9. He was 16 for 26 tonight... and 21 for 25 against BC... I know Mack is gone and it hurts... but no reason to just make things up...
  10. wow... that was a good ending.
  11. Hey someone posted a really good livestream site a while back but I can't find it in my bookmarks... any suggestions?
  12. http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/sports/football/bombers/bombers-interim-gm-wont-be-outworked-220624921.html Great article... have to admit I was not a Walters fan but the guys seems to be busting his ass... I would like to see him kept on as Scout or Asst Gm/Player Personnel - maybe groom him to be our next next GM...
  13. I can't find the link but there was a story at TSN where Buono was quoted as saying he had given the Eskimos permission to speak to Reilly before the trade was finalized. From the blog of Lions beat reporter, Lowell Ulrich: http://www.cflblogzone.com/2013/02/uproar-fame-fleeting-after-leaving-lions/ The same entry refers to a TSN report which said if Reilly maxes out his incentives he would make $210,000. That is less than what Elliott or Brink would have made if either had maxed out their incentives if I'm remembering what Mike had said about their contracts correctly. Well, all I was saying is that maybe we never actually proposed a trade to Buono? I never heard anyone say that we did... before or after. All we know if that Hervey offered up a swap of picks and we either balked or were not given the same opportunity. SO... after all these years in the CFl... why would Buono not call up Mack and say Hervey offered us such and such - do you want to counter? Maybe he didn't Joe's comments after he scooped Westerman on us or maybe Joe just never made contact in the first place... we will never know. Basically, we either had a GM who had almost zero contact/relations with other GMs or one that just continuously got outbid or one who had a tough time because no one wants to play in Winnipeg... I guess we will see in this off season how many guys are okay with the peg. And I mean seriously, what do you think Reilly was going to say after signing with Edmonton...? "Yeah, the Eskimos are great but it would have been awesome to be a bomber'...?
  14. I would say the ratio of players wanting to play at home or other GM's not playing fair was a lot higher here than on other teams during Mack's tenure... I expect our 'bad luck' to change.
  15. $50,000... not 250k
  16. Fact is that none of us know what happened or what was offered... we only got Mack's version in the freep - just like we got Mack's version of the Labatte fiasco. 'We had no opportunity to speak to the gentleman and we’d had no feedback at all and nothing to go on," said Mack. "And purely from a practical standpoint, why would you sign (with Edmonton) early unless there’s absolutely where you wanted to be in the first place. "Because two weeks from now, he would have increased his overall leverage because he would have been a free agent." Maybe Hervey offered the deal and had secured neg rights before Mack ever even picked up the phone...? Nothing in this article makes me believe that Mack offered Buono ANYTHING for Reilly, probably just figured he would go to FA. And increase his leverage how? It was only ever Edmonton and Winnipeg... and I think everyone in the league knew that Mack is not forking over $200k for Reilly... My hunch is that Reilly's agent probably recommended Edmonton over Winnipeg... I mean even when signing Jyles and Pierce, Mack drove a hard bargain - those were long negs. It was always just excuses from Mack as to why he didn't sign guys... Hopefully, we finally get a real GM soon.
  17. And we are talking about Bishop, Glenn and Pierce because one of them will our starting QB in 2014... or just talking about them to show how well we can research stats?
  18. Wow, Burke has served up both Crowton and Mack this week... he must be worried.
  19. Can we add out-maneuvered by Taman for Picard and then Buono for Westerman and then Hervey for Reilly...? He was 3-D!!!
  20. Can we stop arguing about David Asper's personal achievements and debating what it is that he actually does...? Rod Pederson blah-blah'd that the Chair and Past-Chair are 'running the team'... I mean - duh! - of course, they were - who do you think fires the CEO and GM??? The BOARD!!! This is how non-profits and most corporations are stuctured... not really breaking news... Anyway, I have this hunch that Wade Miller is not a total pushover... we'll see.
  21. Still say we need another QB on the roster, even if it is Porter... If Hall struggles in the next 3-4 games, we need someone to step in - right now, we have Buck who gets hurt essentially every game or serves up INTs and Goltz who's confidence we just gutted - maybe he can bounce back easily, maybe not... Either way, I want another prospect here this season.
  22. with Bellfail in as OC, I expect a call has already been placed to Quinton Porter. I was kind of wondering about that... but one would almost wonder if Bellefuille has had enough of the Porter experiment - he probably shudders when he looks at Goltz's film as he's pretty close to a Porter-style QB... Then again, who else is out there...? Not much.
  23. Great decision... Hall is our best option right now - plus we will start seeing if Crowton was the problem or if Hall is another interception machine... Get a fourth QB in camp already!!!
  24. Funny how Gene Dunn running the team is a 'problem' yet he was chair of the CFL for quite some time... and, I mean, who do people think will be running the team if it goes private? Dunn or Asper... Every business be it non-profit or private comes down to the CEO... we finally have a good one. Bauer was good until his grudge against Ritchie... too bad really.
  25. I would think ODay is pretty far down the wishlist... 'Hey there, I know that you've only been an assistant GM in the league for two years but you've helped the guy we fired in 2009 build a great team but he's not coming back. And I know you bleed green and all that but, hey, do you want to run the Bombers? We love taking chances on rookies... its fun!' My vote is almost anyone other than ODay.
