Time to move out the veterans and pull the plug on the season, going to take at least two years to fix this mess.

Two years to be competitive which I'll define at 7-9 wins and the playoffs or two years to be a legit contender, which I'll define as 10+ wins?

At least two years just to make the playoffs again, every other team is at least competitive right now, we have some catching up to do.

Saskatchewan went from 1-7 on Labour Day in 2011 and a final record of 5-13, to 8-10 the next season and look where they are now.  A quick turnaround is definitely possible.

But the Riders drafted well, were aggressive in free agency, and most importantly already had a good QB in place.  I don't know if the Bombers can replicate that, but it wouldn't be totally out of the question if they play their cards right.

C'mon, the Riders were a talented team that needed some tweaking, this outfit needs a QB, oline, receivers, linebackers and DB's.

hire the right GM and coach in the offseason It won't take that long.

I don't think you realize just how void of talent this team really is, 3/4 of this team needs to be upgraded.

  4. Quite obvious again this game that we are getting no penetration from our tackles, they are not getting any push back into the QB's face and they have all day to stand in there. Bring in some beefy tackles who can push the pocket back if you're only going to continue to rush 4. Insane just doing the same thing every game expecting it to work out differently.

  5. Just too many players without the experience needed to play at this speed. QB is still dropping back when the pressure is coming, if the receiver isn't recognizing and going to the spot the blitzer has vacated then there is no play for the QB and he gets crushed, doesn't matter who it is, until we get two more veteran CFL receivers nothing is going to change.

Nfl draft scout has him at a low fourty time of 4.22

That's pretty fast.......the question should be, why isn't this guy involved more in the offense with wheels like that.

Crowton had no clue about offense?

That is true, which is why we will use crash test dummies as QB's until the MB offence is perfected in practice and the real starter emerges.

As for Woods, the guy would be dynamite out of the backfield on hand offs, screens, dumps, you name it, you could probably design 25% of your offence around this guy, he's the next 'little ball of hate', a coordinator would have to blind to not see it.

  7. After listening to MB's press conference and tonight's coaches show, I'm pretty confident we see Pierce start this weekend.  MB noted that a qb can still be developed at #2 through increased reps in practice, which made me think he was laying the groundwork for Pierce to take back the job.

Burke said on his show that he thinks Crowton liked Hall for the job b/c he had the best understanding of the American style offense he was running. That sounds to me like they don't think he's the best fit to run MB's new CFL style offense.

Shhhhh.......... it doesn't work that way around here. Don't you know, the only way to develop a QB is for him to take starters reps, wtf does MB know anyways.

  8. Higgins would be in the deep part of the shallow end we've been fishing in for coaching hires.

My preference would be to pay what it takes and give title to someone who deserves it and is the best candidate available.  Hard to know what the chances of that happening are, but you see the guys like Milanovich (the Dickenson of 2010) turn down interviews here because they know that they won't get paid a top CFL head coaching salary and that they won't have the conditions in place to do their job properly.  Hopefully this doesn't happen to us this time around.

So pay them GM/HC money and surround them with player personnel guys, assistant GM,s and experienced coordinators....no problem, which what many of us have been saying since day one.

You still have to acknowledge that:

and he felt that simply wasn’t a deal he could do.

Why? At the time, he didn't know this,

Mack repeated that he feels the fact Reilly signed with Edmonton today rather than going to free agency and potentially becoming the subject of a bidding war between the Eskimos and Bombers suggests Reilly never really did seriously consider Winnipeg.

At the time, he didn't know what Reilly's intentions actually were, he came the conclusion after.

So maybe he made the right move by telling Wally to stuff it.

All I'm saying is that he didn't try very hard when he heard Wally's terms, he walked away in fact.

And you wouldn't walk away from those terms?

No, I wouldn't and I wouldn't have walked away from the Glenn deal either.

The Bombers would be a better team today, with Reilly or Glenn at QB and that's really all you ask of your GM.

  11. Direct quote from Buono himself (note to Friesen haters, when the "." appears, it is a direct quote, even in a Friesen article)

    http://www.winnipegsun.com/2013/01/31/mack-misses-out-as-eskimos-scoop-up-reilly

Given all that, you’d think the Leos boss would have wanted Reilly out of the West Division.

“If I only had one partner,” Buono said. “I only had one partner.”

I guess Joe Mack didn’t want to dance.

imo, maybe Mack didn't go after him hard enough and it wasn't such a slam dunk he going to EE, I mean, how do you know if you don't try? and haven't spoken to him, like you said, to find out?

  12.

the guy who didn't listen is also the only guy able to actually move the ball, more and more I'm thinking that Elliott was just freelancing out there which is why he was more effective and also released.

Elliot also has a weak arm. Why can't the Bombers find another Don Jonas or Deiter Brock?

Scouting has been schat. Just look at the crap we have had at tackle on the oline.

  13. Amazing a guy like Brendan Labatte would be afraid to play center yet the rookie in Calgary who was drafted this past May has started every game at center for the Stamps. Like what is up  with that? A veteran scared to switch from guard to center because he has to make the blocking calls???

Centre's are typically paid less than Guards who are paid less than Tackles. Perhaps Labatte saw this a tactic to keep his price down going forward.

  14.

When it became apparent that not only could they NOT get a 1st rounder from either WPG or EDM, but that the best they were going to do was EDM's 2nd rounder, they most likely tried to get WPG to up our offer, and we most likely balked.  Keep in mind that this was all done with every GM having knowledge of the new TV deal coming down the pipe, and the cap and cash flow impacts to each team.  I sincerely doubt money had anything to do with trading or not trading for Mike Reilly.  Mack most likely followed his M.O. to not ever even come remotely close to overpaying a free agent.

Edmonton did not have a1st rounder to trade.

BC got an offer from Edmonton for an asset they were going to lose.

BC simply tried to get more for Reilly through Wpg. (swap picks plus another pick)

    BC had nothing to lose.

Nobody can adequately explain why Reilly wouldn't wait 2 weeks to optimize his deal.

What does your common sense tell you?

  15.

    Facts it is then:

Job on the line unless he fixes the QB situation

    Offseason:

Wouldn't pull the trigger on the Glenn deal

    Reilly deal just a 'myth'

    Stands pat with his horses

    After 1 - 4 start

    Realizes he's made mistake

Tries to save his job by dealing for Collaros, which falls through because of injury to Ray

In the end, too late for him.

He gambled and lost, facts speak for themselves.

ahh yes the old "the guy was fired so anything bad I can automatically pin on him, FACTS DON'T LIE!"

    good job.

I can't top that, you win.

All that does is bring us back to Crowton at the controls. I could throw up that was Buck was 'good enough' to get us to the GC game in 2011 with Barresi/Lapo.

This argument will never resolve because there is no 'bad guy'.

well except that PIerce wasn't good enough... They won the east final on the strength of the defense and running game. What did Pierce do in the Grey Cup game other than suck balls until garbage time? The thing that no one backing Pierce seems to want to address is that his struggles are not a new thing, he's been going downhill every since 2010 at the earliest and partway through 2011 at the latest.

Good lord, he was good enough to beat Glenn that day 19 - 3, now you're just looking foolish.

    Who exactly looks foolish?

Glenn was 13-18 in that game, much better than Buck's 16-28 with 1 INT.

Or I suppose we should blame Glenn for having his ankle rolled on the first play of the second half.

Or maybe the fact that it was just too cold for his little hands.......
