  1. Congrats to Westerman, the best season by a Bomber national in quite some time. Unfortunately, the winner rarely comes from a losing club.
  2. Is there an import ol making more than Elimimian? Or SJ Green or Nic Moore? Bryants making $160K and SV Rogers north of that. My point is that you spend the money on the best linemen as it's easier to find a Khalil Bass for $60K and still get performance at the position. Over paying internationals at those positions you mentioned is what I'm against, it's idiotic when they grow on trees down south.
  3. You were right the first time -- it's not "ideally how you do it"....Ideally you use Americans on the line to protect your best asset, and then use your Canadians elsewhere. Even if you had national starters at all those positions, which we don't, you wouldn't be able to pay them all starter money, you end up settling for second rate internationals which is how you end up starting the Greg Peaches of the league, it's economics, you spend your big money on O and D national line men. Your internationals are your skill players and they come cheaper then nationals. Starting NI OL are going for $200,000 on the open market...don't see any relevance in the point you're trying to make. Spend that on a OL, or spend it on a NI DB who can play, what's the difference? Most of the NI skill guys are going for less because everyone is stuck in the rut of trying to play 3-4-5 NI OL all the time. Because you're going to spend it on your lines anyways, national or not, starting linemen command more money than starting DB's or LB's or receivers or running backs. You can't compare a national DB making $200K (which doesn't exist btw) to a starting left tackle. American OL on their first or second contract make more than players at other positions? News to me. The most overpaid players in the league are NI OL and receivers. If you made a list of the top 5 overpaid CFL players, pretty much all of them would fit. Picard, Getzlaf, Fantuz, Durie, Labatte.... We're talking proven starters, you said it, not guys in their first or second contract, although it would be nice if those guys did pan out once in awhile.
  4. Are you guys serious??? It has nothing to do with the color of a persons skin. It refers to the shape of their body, long, slender, short, round, that sort of thing.

  6. Kelly was an ass, they don't know how fortunate they are to have such passionate fans.
  7. I never liked Lapo, he got a raw deal for sure but he seemed liked too much of a X's & O's guy.
  8. - cost of living, proximity to family, the list goes on.

  10. History shows it's the way to go, remember Milt, DA, TE and Romby, that's a championship receiver corps.
  11. On the bright side, he's a national, shouldn't be too hard to surround him with outstanding internationals. We need to start 4 nationals on the o-line so that we only need to start 1 at safety and 1 at receiver. Once they get there, things will fall into place.
  12. How about Goveia, as director of player personnel?
  13. Interesting quote from O'Shea in the Sun.......smash mouth football anyone?
  14. lol, Ritchie Hall is not the guy to take a defence to the promised land.
  15. Check out their experience again and get back to me.
  16. This times a million!! Why would we bring back a retread who failed miserably last time he was here. Mike Kelly would be a better option then him! x 2 million, now if you had said Doug Berry for o-line coach I would have been all over that (fat kid on smartie sort of thing).
  17. But was he really that much of an upgrade over January, I don't think so, nor was Picard an upgrade over Morely. Like I said, it not how much you spend it's about spending it in the right areas. Who was our big free agent receiver signing last year, Wiliams, Ellison, Sinopoli.......oh wait, we picked Darvin Adams off the Argo scrap heap. They signed Moore the previous year as a big fish in the free agent receiving pool, and yes Stanley Bryant is a huge upgrade on January. You could include Westerman as a big free agent signing too. The point is that you can't rely on free agency to build a team. You need to be able to scout players because chances are that's your depth and depth was a huge problem for this team. Injuries were impossible to over come. There were plenty of big name receivers available this year, signing Moore 2 years ago is not an excuse to take a pass on them. iyo, Bryant is a huge upgrade over January or do you have something to back that up with. Free agency is a huge part of building a team when you don't have a scouting system to rely on like the Bombers The injury excuse is getting really old, several teams who lost their starting qb are in the playoffs and we are not. in the playoffs because their scouts did a better job with the depth, why is this argument hard to understand? And yes getting Moore 2 years ago does impact things in the following years. Signed Moore to a big contract, then extended Denmark to a big contract, how much money can you realistically tie up in one position? The free agent receiver moves were Moore and Denmark, they needed the scouts to bring in guys to supplement them and they utterly failed to do that. Your argument is pointless because the scouting department was just formed and could take years to pay any dividends. That is what happens when you staff it with noobs who are trying to build it from the ground up. Where is Walters supposed to get his talent from, pull it out of his ass, free agency and trades are the only options available to him which is why he has gone that route, why is this so hard to understand??? Two import receivers shouldn't be breaking the bank for any GM, especially the likes of Denmark & Moore. Which was exactly my point, it's not how much you spend, it's how you spend it.

  19. Fool me once........ Incremental improvement......extremely incremental But Crowton didn't have Willy, Marcels offense has proven just as putrid as Gary's without Willy, so I say it's status quo.
  20. All 9 of those guys would make us a considerably better team. Um, no... Smith is a good player. Hollins has some potential but he's nothing special at the moment. The rest are retreads at best, far over the hill at worst. I wasn't being serious but 5 for sure.
  21. I can appreciate what they are trying to do with the Canadian drafting/developing of players but you don't have look too far back to see that our best Canadians have always been acquired, not developed, Brown, Joe Pop, even Chris Walby.
