  1. That's my point. "Better than Brink" did not equal "good QB", just like "Marve is better than Brohm" does not mean "Marve should be starting because he's so good". Many who want rid of Brohm think that Marve will come in and light it up, but like Elliot he could quite easily stink it up, and the coaches must believe that is the case based on not playing him and explaining how he is deficient in the areas they need him to be stronger in. Elliot's riskiness was not just riverboat gambler mentality, it was a fundamental inability to read the defence and exploit it. That was proven by the lack of success on any other team that took a chance on him afterwards. He was not a good QB, and "better than Brink" was such a low bar that people falsely elevated his ability to play because of it and pinned unrealistic expectations on him. I fear the same scenario with Marve now. My point is that Elliott hardly stunk it up, he moved the ball effectively but threw some ints in the red zone. Rather than working to correct that as a normal coach might do, he got the under the bus treatment cause the coach was pissed off as he often was and he liked to bury players who displeased him. No Joey Elliot stunk it up... 7 TD's, 15 INT for his career. You wont win too many football games when you throw twice as many Interceptions as Touchdowns.
  2. Marve always wears a knee brace. I thought Saturday's first interception was a fantastic looking tight spiral with plenty of zip on it. Sadly Brohm's interceptions were probably his two best thrown balls. Most of his other throws were so off base not only could the recievers not catch them, the defense couldn't either.
  3. That second and 3 play, where Edmonton stacked the box, and Willy handed off to Cotton for a two yard loss, just had me screaming at the TV. Everyone knew a hand-off was coming, and yet MB just made Willy do it anyway. Same with the hand-off to Marshall on the 3 yard line. Brohm should have had AT&T on his helmet, he was telegraphing that play so much. I do hate the way we run the ball. Where's the sweeps? Counters? Off tackle runs. Seems like shot gun formation run up the middle every time. No imagination. No variation. That falls on the coaching staff.
  4. Just to show how much Gretzky dominated his peers.. Everyone who won an NHL scoring title by more than 15% is included in the following table: year player margin percentage 1987 Wayne Gretzky 183-108 41.0 1984 Wayne Gretzky 205-126 38.5 1983 Wayne Gretzky 196-124 36.7 1985 Wayne Gretzky 208-135 35.1 1986 Wayne Gretzky 212-141 34.4 1982 Wayne Gretzky 212-147 30.7 1941 Bill Cowley 62-44 29.0 1953 Gordie Howe 95-71 25.3 1928 Howie Morenz 51-39 23.5 1951 Gordie Howe 86-66 23.3 1973 Phil Esposito 130-104 20.0 1952 Gordie Howe 86-69 19.8 1991 Wayne Gretzky 163-131 19.6 1966 Bobby Hull 97-78 19.6 1981 Wayne Gretzky 164-135 17.7 1967 Stan Mikita 97-80 17.5 1935 Charlie Conacher 57-47 17.5 1970 Bobby Orr 120-99 17.5 1954 Gordie Howe 81-67 17.3 1940 Milt Schmidt 52-43 17.3 2014 Sidney Crosby 104-87 16.3 1974 Phil Esposito 145-122 15.9 1999 Jaromir Jagr 127-107 15.7 1989 Mario Lemieux 199-168 15.6 1922 Punch Broadbent 46-39 15.2 1919 Newsy Lalonde 33-28 15.2 1930 Cooney Weiland 73-62 15.1 1969 Phil Esposito 126-107 15.1 Notes: 8 of Gretzky's 10 Art Rosses were by more than 15% 4 of Howe's 6 Art Rosses were by more than 15% 3 of Esposito's 5 Art Rosses were by more than 15% One-timers before World War 2: Cowley, Morenz, Conacher, Schmidt, Broadbent, Lalonde, Weiland One-timers after World War 2: Hull, Mikita, Orr, Jagr, Lemieux It was obviously easier to lead the league by a higher percentage before WW2, when the seasons were shorter and seasonal totals were lower. Lemieux won 6 Art Rosses, but only 1 by a 15%+ margin. Two reasons: Gretzky & injuries. Teammates who led the league in scoring by wide margins in back-to-back years: Schmidt/Cowley, Hull/Mikita, Orr/Esposito
  5. Lidstrom played against Lemieux when Lemieux was in his prime. He didn't get to play against 80's Gretzky. Gretzky is the best player of all time, if you want to make the point of Lemieux being the better player in the 90's then yes thats probably true, but Gretzky dominated the game like few others in professional sports ever have.
  6. The disturbing fact is the Blue Bombers wont go anywhere without Willy. Brohm is god awful and for some reason the coaching staff doesn't see it. His release is slow, his footwork is sloppy and slow, his arm is mediocre at best, and he locks onto his target. Willy certainly isn't an elite quarterback in this league yet. He tends to not always progress through his targets, and gets happy feet in the pocket but he gives us by far the best chance to win game in and game out. I think part of the problem on offense is that although our offensive line is better then it was last year, its very much still a work in progress. Part of the problem is also our predictable and vanilla play calling. I feel like the Edmonton coaches used their play calling in a way that utilized their players strengths. Anyways sadly we need Willy if we're going to be competitive in any football game but there's certainly underlining issues with this club.
  7. I don't want to ever hear the word swaggerville again..
  8. As per CFL.ca article. Really shows the importance of getting pressure to the QB. 5 sacks in 4 games so far.
  9. Marve hasn't been all that good on the short yardage situations. Brohm was pretty impressive last night.
  10. Willy played well minus the late INT. High percentage passes, moved the ball quickly. When you have a franchise quarterback there's always an opportunity to win the football game. Glad we have our guy.
  11. Odds of success are probably less than 50% I would think. On TSN they said the 2 point conversion was running around I believe 77 percent. Teams are hesitant to go for two but I think once we start seeing more success with the two point conversion and 1 point converts missed. (hello Winnipeg) we'll start to see a shift in mind set when it comes to going for two.
  12. Two turn overs resulting in two touchdowns by the special teams, two missed field goals, a missed PAT that would of tied the game, and Stoudemire trying to be a hero but instead ends up a zero. Good grief. This was a game we could have and should have taken.
  13. Perhaps we can trade him back to SASK for a 2016 first round pick Taman get it done!
  14. I actually like it. And as the weather gets worse you'll be seeing more teams go for two. It's different and unique but this is one rule I think I'm slowly beginning to like.
  15. Glenn is one of the best in the business at putting up big numbers.. And finding a way to throw a crucial INT or pick six.
  16. Nick Moore is also quietly leading the league in receiving yards.
  17. Brohm's problems are.. He doesn't look off his first read. Makes it easy for the defense to read.. He isn't mobile enough (ok he had a 24 yard rushing TD that was hilarious), his release isn't quick enough, and his arm strength is just barely ahead of Alex Brinks. (that isn't a compliment) Mind you he wasn't the only problem tonight but the thing that bothered me is that he wasn't so over whelming terrible enough for Marve to get enough playing time. He was just bad.
  18. Play calling was solid. One play I saw a million miles away was when we emptied the back field on second and long and it was the quarterback draw with Willy. Riders werent fooled. No one was! but besides that I thought the play calling was good. Great mix of run and pass.
  19. I thought the o-line was a hundred times better then it was last season. Funny how good the offense looks when you give your quarterback time to throw the ball and your running back a lane to run through.
  20. It truly is bush league. Seeing less then 5000 people in the stands for an Argo's "home" game in Fort Mac, and seeing steadily declining coverage from TSN. It's tough to grow the sport with in Canada and especially in the USA with such amateur like coverage. It's too bad because the CFL is a great brand of football that is truly exciting.
  21. I thought Brett Carter was adequate last year. Too bad he's not with the team this year.
  22. Your missing the point. It's not just about Yantz. It calls into question the credibility of our GM, if he's making promises to players and not keeping them. Other players pay attention to this stuff.Good lord.. How many reps do you think every other 5th string quarterback get? He got an opportunity to show his stuff. He was more then a long shot to make it. He stuck around longer then most people thought. If this was Yantz from Kentucky this would be a non issue. Players that get cut always think they didn't get a fair chance, what else is new.Again, that's not the point. In reading the article on Yantz, it sounds like Walters told him one thing, and something very different happened. What do you think GM's tell players when they're signed? I'm sure EVERY player invited to TC was told they'd have an opportunity to make the roster. So he didn't get enough reps. Big deal.
