2022 Off Season - Back 2 Back Champs Edition

Yeah I don’t buy that either. I’m sure he took zero discount to go back to Saskatchewan. No one was going to offer him more then that I can pretty much guarantee. -

Every year a team spends money foolishly on FA. Most years it doesn’t work out the way they wanted to. Over spending on vets isn’t the way to go. Getting a veteran free agent to get a team over the top is great but drafting well by adding quality Canadian talent, and relying on your scouting team to bring in young hungry talented players down south is the way to win in this league. Calgary replaced guys for years that signed big ticket deals in the off season, for the last few seasons it’s been our turn but as long as we draft well and scout well down south no one will dethrone us quite yet. -

Well I think it’s likely Harris was going to have to take a major pay cut but I don’t blame him for not doing that. He’s 35 and like only has another 1-2 years left. If a team like Ottawa or BC could offer him the big money he was making with Winnipeg when we signed him I can’t really fault him. Really hate to see this but ultimately football is a business for both players and teams alike. -

I remember the days when we wished good free agent players would sign here! Those were maybe not such good times, but makes the position were in right now that much sweeter. -

I too would probably go with Brady but offer Harris a coaching job immediately if he wants to be around the team and the culture. I know it’s a hard decision to make but being 35 years old with over 10 years of heavy usage is tough on the body. No doubt in my mind he could probably still play but no shame in taking care of his body long term and I’m hoping we could keep him around with the boys as a coach. However I would be just as thrilled to give him another year. It’s a tough position to be in but I’m sure Walters knows what he’s doing. -

Well Fred Reid’s prime was short but he averaged nearly 1400 yards a season and 6 yards per carry in 09 and 10, on two not so good offences. He was outstanding in those two seasons in my opinion. -

The offence certainly has changed. He only had 11 catches this season. Granted it was only in 7 games but that’s a far cry from the 105 receptions he had back in 2017. If he’s healthy he’s still a great player and can run for those tough yards but the offence definitely doesn’t run through him like it did at one point. -

He’s only 28 and hardly has any mileage on his body. The biggest factor for running backs wearing down isn’t usually age it’s usage/mileage over the year. I just can’t help but love Agustine’s skill set. He’s so fast and quick. I would still rather go with One of Harris/Oliveria and Augustine because of the different styles. -

This man is going to break out this season. So happy we’re bringing him back. -
Meh 29 years old and hasn’t played in two years. We always seem to get these kind of guys who had decent long NFL careers and they came here and are either washed up or Under estimate the learning curve of the game or don’t work hard enough to get into the starting line up. Not saying this is the case necessarily but I can’t really remember the last NFL receiver veteran to come into the CFL and have success.

We talk about how good his MVP season was in 02 but he averaged 23 yards per reception for over 1100 yards and 17 touchdowns in 2005 with guys like Tee Martin at QB. He had 53 catches that season with 17 touchdown meaning essentially every third catch was guaranteed taking it to the house. -

This is why Walters is simply head and shoulders above any other GM. A+ off season so far. -

This is great news about Couture and Woli. Two under the radar guys on a championship winning team that I had a feeling another team would have taken a flyer on in free agency. Especially Woli for whatever reason I thought maybe he was gone. He was certainly under utilized last season. I’m hoping he gets more targets this season but thrilled to have them both coming back. -

Agreed I wouldn’t be comfortable paying any receiver 200k. I won’t blame him if he takes that but if he wants to come back to Winnipeg I would imagine it would have to be at heavy discount compared to what BC is offering him. -

If you noticed with Lawler because of his size and reach his radius is huge. Just have to hit him in the general area and he’ll come down with the catch. -

The Rose/Wilson play was more iconic but without Nichols deflection on that play we lose the game so I’m going to give some love to Nichols. Single coverage on the outside like that is almost impossible to cover but he made a tremendous game saving play on the ball. -

He might make a good SAM. He’s pretty heavy as it is, no idea how good of a tackler he is though but he has the height and weight. -

Did Hamilton release him to pursue an NFL opportunity? Could be a good fit here. Great signing! -

We were the second winningest team in the league under Calgary from 2016-2019. We were always a piece or two away from making a big run any given year. In 2019 we had our best overall roster in the O’Shea/Walters era at that point but unfortunately Nichols never really recovered from his previous injury and once he got hurt again we went on a run. Collaros was exactly what we needed to get over the hump, we just needed someone who could move the pocket, make the smart throw, and occasionally keep them honest by going deep. I’m convinced the 2017 version of Nichols would have gotten it done as well. By no means was Collaros the saviour of the franchise although he was good in 2019, and very good in 2021. -

Yep can’t lose Alexander. Once he replaced Hecht at safety our D was completely different. He’s our most valuable piece of a really good secondary.
