GDT - Winnipeg @ Ottawa RedBlacks - 6:00pm CST
captaincanuck12 replied to TrueBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I can't believe how badly played and coached this game was. Terrible decision to not go for the fg...that's coaching. Defence can't tackle.... our run d isn't a concern? Offence like usual gets Willy sacked. Special teams... Hrialaju shanked several punts. Were not going to win another game this year. I hope the o line is blown apart next year. -
I'll chime in here. There was one situation a few years ago in the NFL game. I was watching a Chargers Broncos game in Denver. Rivers had thrown an "interception" . TV replays showed the ball hit the turf. San Diego challenged the play however the replay system wasn't working. As per NFL rules the ref Waited the allotted 2 mins and since the system still wasn't working Denver retained possession of the ball. Yes it happens in the NFL too. Its annoying but it is part of the game. I'm pissed that it happened. I'm pissed that the officiating is a joke. But WHY THE HELL CANT OUR OFFENCE SCORE SOME BLOODY TOUCHDOWNS!!!!! that burns my @$$ more than anything. Theses losses would be Wins if we could start putting majors on the board!

We gave up 5 sacks. Grigsby I thought had a decent game but its clear the oline isn't giving him holes to run through. While I'd love to parachute in new talent changing them right now is going to make things worse (hard to believe I know). Unfortunately we're stuck with this oline who is lucky Willy hasn't gotten killed. Walters will hopefully address the problem in the offseason. Just imagine how much better Willy will be with proper pass protection... Can't wait!

I see a huge improvement in this team, and I hope it continues, but tonite's games and last weeks game really have me worried. Our porous o-line showed up in typical fashion yielding 5 sacks and we had too many 2-outs. Yes I agree MB needed to change the play calling, but wow for the 2nd game in a row, Willy was under siege and had very little time to throw the ball. Grigsby's zig zagging aside, there were 0 holes for him to run through. The special teams blunders last week and this week, were madening. These are the exact same problems that plagued us last year, and they have started to trickle back in the last two games. Still though, I think we will hit the 8 win plateau, but I'd be lying to you if I said I wasn't concerned.

Hey y'all. These first two weeks of the CFL have renewed my faith in the Blue and Gold. We are 2-0, and going into the Montreal next week where 3-0 is a legit possibility. I just wanted to start a discussion about our O-Line for this year. I have disliked our O-Line for several years now and I'm still not really sold on our starting group right now. I saw Willy take some really nasty licks yesterday because of poor blocking (yes I realize that Grigsby also needs to learn how to block just as well as he can run). The same licks that Buck used to take. Do you guys think we still need to upgrade the O-Line? Are Morely and January the best we can get or is there someone better? Or do we just build that line through the draft?
-
Agreed...but what do you expect from this team? Do you think that will still roll over and die? Or battled hard for 3 quarters and then roll over and die? Or actually have the personnel in place to deal with adversity and possibly overcome it?

Hey, Just wanted to get some general discussion going regarding Bomber fans expectations this season (forgive me if a similar thread exists). Call me naive but I have a glimmer of hope that we can suprise a few teams this year. I think the Florida mini-camp experiment was a huge step in the right direction and it finally looks like they are addressing the QB issue. I don't think we'll make the playoffs, but I'm thinking we'll be able to squeak out 6 wins this year. Thoughts? Anyone willing to tell me that I need to have my head examined? Cheers!

Kavis Reed as Bombers new Defensive Coordinator?
captaincanuck12 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
T Am i the only one who finds it ironic that you complain about LaPolice and Reed yet you want Khari Jones and Tim Burke? I was more referring to recycling bad coaches in our organization. Lapo was run out of town in 2003 when he was our OC, yet we brought him back as HC. IMO Kavis wasn't that great of a DC so why bring him back? Burke has proved he was successful at DC... with two teams now. So why not bring him back ? According to Wade Miller's press conference ...Burke is interested in coming back if it fits And correct me if I 'm wrong Khari never coached the bombers has he? -
Kavis Reed as Bombers new Defensive Coordinator?
captaincanuck12 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
What is it with Bombers fans wanting our old outcasts back in coaching positions???? We've recycled Lapolice... now some want Kavis Reed back? As someone already pointed out, there are other options. I'd love to have Burke back as DC. His track record is proven for itself, but I am not sure he'll fit in with the new HC... which is the bigger priority. I heard a rumour that the front runner is Khari Jones. Anyone can confirm or deny this? Personally I'd like to get Khari as our new OC... but someone else at HC. -
What an absolute horrible decision to not try and win the game for with 25 secs to go!!!! Burke has got to go! Unreal. BS PI call that extended an Edmonton drive too... but man the offence crapped the bed in the entire 2nd half!

Burke: Happy with Buck's play on Saturday
captaincanuck12 replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I still think 100% the o-line needs to be revamped. I think Buck's numbers would improve if our O-Line was solid. Regarding what Burke said though... perhaps he's doing damage control? Or perhaps he underwent a silent lobotomy. Buck looked terrible against the Tabbies. -
Who is the New Bomber QB?
captaincanuck12 replied to captaincanuck12's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I don't know why I got so excited about Burke's announcement. What classifies as CFL experience these days? Oh well. Here's to a Labour Day slaughter and a Banjo Bowl bungle! -
So on the post game show, TIm Burke said there's a new QB coming to town with CFL experience. When Bob Irving pressed Tim Burke for the answer, Burke told Bob I'll tell you tomorrow... i.e. Today. Does anyone have any credible information on who this mysterious QB is? Or do we all have to wait till tomorrow. My apologies if this discussion has been started elsewhere.

This love affair with LaPo is getting tiresome. There was a reason he was run out of town when he was the Bombers OC back in 2003. And we brought him back in in 2010 for some strange reason only to can him 2 years later. Lapo's record while he was HC was 16-28. Not exactly great numbers. LaPo isn't coming back. IMO he was a terrible HC. I think Burke is in way over his head. Put him back to Defensive HC, and find an HC who knows the CFL to run the Bombers. The coaching carousel has to stop if we are to have any consistency going forward. I would agree, that would be his biggest fault. But Lapo was not a bad coach. He was a rookie sure and a little high strung, but he certainly wasn't a dud. I think had Mack found him better players (esp at QB), made some decent trades, and didn't meddle with the roster, Lapo's teams would've performed a lot better. Lapo was a micromanager who coached the team too passively. Not a fan of that combination.

Exactly. While we don't have a bonafide QB... our O line should be targetted for improvement. If the O line can give guys like Goltz more time, he's only going to excel. Goltz has the tools so lets develop him. I know this won't appease the those of us who want a Grey Cup right away but the revolving door at QB has to stop.

If You Were Running An Offence....
captaincanuck12 replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I wasn't actually trying to imply Lapo offence was any better. Just that may be the reason Lapo was constantly tinkering with the O. As much as i like to see Croston canned, constantly firing coaches isn't the answer. All I know is that guys like Chad Simpson will not want to play here much longer. -

Crowton is a terrible coordinator. Maybe Lapo was trying fix the garbage that Crowton was spewing. I'm so sick of these anemic offense schemes and lack of imagination. -
LOL. I needed that laugh after a very frustrating 3 hours of football. Thanks adrenaline_x!
-
Perhaps he earned his shot... although the Argo D was playing pretty vanilla out there since the game was already won so Goltz stats may have been padded. I'm fed up with the offensive play calling by Crowton and with Pierce... can't get much worse. Goltz has the tools.. does Winnipeg have the patience to develop him?

If we can get the ground game established... i think we steal 2 pts in Montreal. AC is not the big threat we are used to seeing... plus if the Bombers can sack him early ... we'll be in a very good position!

Bombers Vs Als: Post Game Thread
captaincanuck12 replied to iso_55's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
My thoughts on tonite: I'm miffed about that blown PI call on Edwards. I hate the inconsistency of the CFL officiating. I'm also sick of the people saying good teams overcome bad officiating..tell that to Team Canada when they lost against the USA in the olympic semi. Simpson's 9 touches for 36 yards isn't going to get him a rushing title. The offense was brutal save for 3 drives. Buck made some bad decisions and we desperately needed the offence to do something in the fourth quarter. Montreal didn't look like the unstoppable juggernaut they have been in the past. Calvillo was rattled after that first sack and he had two hail mary's that ended up winning the game for them. That aside, the atmosphere was electric and the stadium is top notch. Looking forward to 8 more home games in the best stadium in Canada!
