Bombers Rookie Camp/Training Camp/Pre-Season Thread
GCn20 replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Exactly. We heard more from the press in updates when MOS jr was having coffee than we have heard in the entire camp about other young up and comers. Same thing last year. We never heard a thing about Dalton Schoen impressing until late into camp. We used to get daily articles that told us who was looking good/bad/mediocre/old etc along with camp stars of the day not too many years ago. Now we are scouring the bowels of the internet only to find out MOS jr. almost caught a ball. -

It's not OSH getting a pass on this site, It's understanding that a big part of why players love him, want to come here, and choose to stay is that he keeps things in house. His cone of silence is locker room management and it is 100% the right approach. It's nobody sharing information of a personal or in house nature in our entire organization and that is exactly how the players love it, and one of the reasons they love our franchise. -

I have zero concerns about either. Bighill is just getting vet treatment, and Grant is a beast that will likely be back in a day or two. Most likely a personal matter, or a paper move to make the cut down. -

I would bet big money that he had some personal issues he had to deal with....and before anyone reads too much into that, I am not suggesting it is a negative matter. Who knows? Death in the family, a child's milestone to attend, legal matters....could be anything really. At this point and time Grant has nothing to prove, comes back to us year after year on team friendly contracts....this is more than likely a big nothing burger. I'm not seeing any issue. Lack of coverage from reporters was the bellyache, not lack of news. I don't mind MOS not revealing personal matters of his squad, but I did complain that we haven't heard much in the way of rookie camp/TC player reports. Nobody telling us who is looking good/bad. Don't need MOS to be an open book for that. -
It is not their job to inform. It is their job to run a poll. Whether you like it or not uninformed voters make up the majority of all votes cast in every election. It does correlate.

CFL - Pre-Season - All Your Non-Bomber News/Talk - 2023

He was OK....nothing special...we did use our RB quite a bit that game to help him out. I know he was not starter for most of their season and I realize he has not played a full season since 2018....yet I would still rather have him then Evans. He is a veteran journeyman that is best suited to emergency backup status. He's passable...but not particularly good. This is pretty surprising. I would love to hear why they released him before adding him to my wish list though. -

If by pylon you mean rarely played and sat on the PR, and wasn't even our best IMP OT on the PR....then yeah. If you mean playing? No...he wasn't a pylon for us...he was a pylon with the ALs I believe. -

They should create a coaches challenge for this and let the team police themselves. LOL. JK. -

Manitoba Liquor stores run on a legislated 14% mark up, the same mark up that private enterprise liquor/beer/coolers run on. I have been in the liquor game for almost 30 years, have owned several vendors and can tell you that it has ALWAYS been between 11-14% to the retailer the rest to the MLCC. We have legislated price control in Manitoba. The most that the MLCC stores can make is 14% mark up because they sell at the same price as private enterprise. They show the synnovial tax in their mark up, however that is not the % lost to the MLCC at all if private liquor outlets were in place. The difference is 14% that would go to the private retailer the rest is retained by MLCC no matter who sells it., Furthermore, currently in Manitoba there are 63 MLCC outlets and 168 private liquor outlets. Currently the MLGC has seen record profits on alcohol, mainly through increased taxation and increased sales. Absolutely wrong. You guys have no idea what your are reading.

The mark up is including the synnovial tax.

You are not alone in the confusion but realistically we don't have any scrub NAT starters. I mean we could potentially see Woli and Fatboi losing some reps but really who else? I don't think this changes much for us in roster construction other than a little more freedom in replacing injured NAT starters and a little more pressure on the rookies as vet status is a lot more valuable now. In a saw off of talent the vet now has the upper hand. -

For sure. Biggie is a manimal. His conditioning is superb, and he will only need the last week of camp to knock the offseason rust off. -

Probably doesn't hurt any coaches chances of getting carried if they weigh a buck fifty soaking wet...lmao. -

Partly, for sure. We have no fringe receiver spots available. Biggie will be getting a ton of days off. We need him fresh and ready for the season. It would be irresponsible of coaching and management to work him hard in TC. He literally has nothing to prove and why risk injury. -
2022/2023 Off-Season (League/Non-Bombers-specific News)

I don't think so. I think he read the press clippings and decided he didn't need to compete for his spot anymore. Observers at the time said he was half-arsing it in his last 2-3 days and the Bombers said buh-bye. Won't rule out PCI though, could be that as well. -

Calgary had a decent offence last year. Yes, they had benefit of a pretty friendly schedule that allowed them to beat up on the divisions weak sisters at the time they were the weakest. However, at the end of the day it doesn't matter how you get points, every team will do it differently based on how their roster is built. Calgary had Carey and they rode him hard....as they should have. BLM was average last year, and that is all they needed him to be. He is clearly not in the MOP conversation anymore, but he can still provide reliable QBing and does know how to win still. Will he be great for Hamilton? Doubtful. Will be bring confidence and swagger to their group. I think so. Will he fold like a lawn chair...nope. Is he good enough to lead the TiCats to a Grey Cup victory....hard to say....probably gives them a better chance than Dane Evans though. -

Slay looked great the first few days and the hype machine was rolling on him iirc. Then he completely checked out for some reason and was gone a couple days later. It was baffling. -

Grant has been pretty successful with his handful of gadget plays they package for him. He's not an every down receiver though and we don't want to double duty him too much because he is such a game breaker as a returner. -

I think last year Sayles was pretty good tbh. -
LMAO...you think unions negotiate based on what can be afforded? You think employers negotiate based on that? If that were the case you wouldn't see all collective agreements ending up virtually the same give or take a % or two. For sure. Best province imo.
-
All of that is seperate from the taxes. The unions have access to all revenue numbers and expenditure disclosure written write into the CBA. The MGEU has all the CBAs available to read...check it out. Financial disclosure is page one on every single one of them just about.

No it wasn't Knox...he actually made the team I think and was here for a year but yea definitely a guy that looked like a budding star in limited time and then flamed out. Guy I'm thinking of was before Knox. I think maybe even towards the end of the Taman era? Big pedigree and reports out of camp were sensational and it started us all on a frenzy of how good this guy would be....and then we cut him...lol. Wish I could remember his name. Biggest swing and miss I ever saw from our various forum members TC reports. I'm thinking Mike might remember as he was pretty active during TCs back then? -

I will reserve judgement on Wade until actually seeing him play. Every year there is a guy who is hyped that is among the first releases. One year we had a MAC that was supposed to change the world go out in first cuts lol. Can't remember his name but boy we hyped the crap out of him and then poof he was gone. Wish I could remember his name. He was used as a cautionary tale about expectations for many years after. It will depend more on whether Wade is as good as we think he is.
