True....but even if disaster strikes we already have our 8th best win total of the last 20 years secured with only 3 wins needed to tie for our best. Hard to believe we have done this in half a season.
-
They are getting ready for the Ernest Monias concert at Fisher RIver Treaty days this week.....clearly... Why is that corny? Savor it. We hate on the Riders because it's in our DNA as Bomber fans. It's not personal and we appreciate good football discussion even from a Rider fan. lol
-
Also, some receivers (Derel Walker I'm looking at you) will run half arsed routes if they know they are not the primary or second reads and end up not getting the touches they might if they worked a little harder. Also, film room work....knowing not only the defence you are playing but the strength and weaknesses of the personell week to week. I guess that's kind of covered under work ethic as well but more of a preparation work ethic. I remember buying Fun Zone tix at 7/11 when I was a teenager. Can't remember how much they were but my allowance covered it and the bus back and forth. Must have been super cheap because I didn't get much for an allowance.

Quite the leap of logic you are taking there. I am not unhappy with Ellingson in any way, shape, or form. Just playing devil's advocate to spark intelligent conversation about where fans draw the line on value of a signing or contract. Apparently, that was a failed idea. Agreed. Just seeing where everyone sat on when a good signing becomes a bust. I'm certainly not even remotely there with Ellingson and probably wouldn't be even if it turned out he couldn't come back this year. If that happened, I would re-sign him next year with a lower base and higher bonus prove it kind of contract. Agreed. One would have to be oblivious of reality to think that a rookie or young player has a much better chance of returning as a highly productive player than a player in his mid-thirties with the same injury. It's not an apt comparison at all.
-
Just to play devil's advocate, if Ellingson is in and out of the lineup and misses 50% of the games from here on out, do we still feel awesome about his signing? I love what he's done so far, but when you are signing a player that is getting up there you need to also get value out of his contract from being on the field. Look at Nick Moore as an example. Guy was an elite receiver but no one shed a tear when he left because he was in the tub more than he was on the field. I'm not saying that's going to happen with Ellingson, but at what point do we become concerned about the amount of time he is missing? Just an honest question, not passing judgement on the guy. I love what he has done so far. Just saying that if we found out tomorrow he is done for the year, how does everyone here feel about potentially bringing him back next year for the same contract?

Saskatchewan ruined Manny, glad he was able to rebound. -
Timing, and pace of the route are essential, as is making the right read of the route tree. Receivers have options on most plays based on the D they are facing. They must make the right read, beat their defender who is trying to throw off their route, and run it at the correct distance and pace. Also being on the same page as your QB is ultra important. We saw Zac and Shoen's convo the other night as they sorted out the route after his TD pass so that they would always be on the same page in that particular play call. You gotta have all that and the physical ability to go with it. It may seem like Dressler was open more than others and he probably was, but a lot of it was just recognizing the defence and knowing where the open area is, going there, and knowing where your QB thinks you will go.
-
I always looked at Janarion as a burner, but I could be wrong. But yea, something like what you suggested would work just fine. Putting a tiny receiver that runs sloppy, telegraphed routes doesn't help at all. Just saying, there's gotta be a better way to use him as he just essentially a decoy anyway.
-
Agreed. A stat that is impossible to quantify is how many times QBs are forced into bad throws trying to throw around him. I would guess, based on the number of knockdowns he gets, that it is a lot. We will know the answer if he becomes available. If he chooses to go back to that toxic locker room then it says a lot about him too. Meh on Lenius. His measurables got him an NFL look but he was pretty underwhelming in the CFL.
-
He can still draw coverage away from other routes by taking the top off. I mean they can't let him just go without someone at least covering him. Not suggesting we actually throw him the ball. Sitting down in curl routes does nothing to help our offence at all. Trevor Harris was a good QB at one point, now he fears contact so the question is moot. Trevor Harris can only beat us if his OL has the game of their lives because once we hit him it's game over.

LOL....fell right into my trap. Disagree on Manny Arceneaux and Duron Carter...they are great for the league in the opposite way Burnham is bad for the league. There I have given my first clue about what my previous post meant.....mwahahaha -
If we are going to play him at least let him take the top off the defence every 2nd or 3rd play. Even if we never throw him the ball it would at least be useful.

Bryan Burnham coming back is bad for the league. There I repeated it....but what did I mean by that? Let the great debate rage on. Was I being literal, or was I talking about being bad for other teams who have to face him? Who knows? Only me.....mwahahaha...let the fireworks continue. -
Yea...he has literally said that every week this year. Poor guy.
-
Bottom line is you drive your wrecking ball until it breaks. RBs have short career spans. Not very often you get more than a few years out of them. Comes with the territory. Brady will have a longer career running like a wrecking ball than he would trying to preserve his health and not producing.
-
Yea, we got him off the scrap heap but that is how we got Hardrick too. End of the day, Lofton is probably better than anyone the Riders are rolling out at OT. He's a journeyman emergency replacement until Richmond or one of the other rookies get their feet wet a bit. There is a big shortage of quality OTs, so this is about as good as it gets.

Saskatchewan literally gave up last game. Dickenson has lost the room. They are done like dinner. You can see it in the look in their faces. This gets uglier, not better. There is nothing easy about going East, on the road for two weeks, with undisciplined and selfish players. Look at their current record vs the East as proof. Ask any CFL player and their is a lot temptation out there in the East and a lot of 20 something players making the trip out of the turd bowl that is Regina. There is a reason West teams never win the crossover, it's a brutal road trip. -
Yea...that's a strong possibility for sure. Unless Nelson, or Witt are flying under the radar or Richmond comes off the 6 game that is the most likely scenario. Although, they may just insert Lofton at LT and keep Yoshi where he is to create minimal disruption.
-
Specifically, they probably go Lofton at LT or RT until Richmond is ready as he seems to be the heir apparent. Machino is not likely to ever start, but Nelson and Witt both have impressive college resumes. Alternatively, they could go Gray at LT/RT and move Kolankowski to OG when Couture returns but most coaches are not high on changing 3 positions on the OL to replace one guy if it can be avoided, plus Lofton has CFL experience at LT.
-
We have 4 OT on the PR/Injured list. One with CFL journeyman experience, and 3 highly decorated Div 1 recruits. Not sure what else we could possibly do. Nelson, Witt, or Richmond could be the next Bryant for all we know and with luck we won't need to find out anytime soon. You can't prepare to perfectly replace a Stan Bryant but it doesn't mean we don't have a perfectly capable replacement in-house already. Yea...Harris was simply Wally wanting to go IMP at RB instead of tying up big dollars on Harris. He may have offered Harris the same as Winnipeg did but only after he knew full well that Harris was moving on.
-
What answer were you expecting or hoping for? That we have inside info into what the Bombers would do when replacing the irreplaceable. The plan for replacing Stan will not be as good no matter what. I'm not sure what options he was hoping for? We try who we have and airlift in/trade if we need to do so and probably have zero shot at replacing him with somebody as good as him. It's like asking what our plan would be if Collaros went down. Our plan would be next man up and make moves if that doesn't work.
-
I agree. There were times when Wally made the correct read and turfed guys just in time, but he also got bit in the butt on numerous occasions by cutting guys who still had a lot of game in them. We put someone else at LT and carry on. Same as every other position. We have guys on our roster/PR for that. Will there be drop off? Of course. How could there not be? Nobody loses a Stan Bryant and is able to replace them with anything remotely close to what he brings. If we had a guy like that on our roster, he would be starting somewhere else. All we can hope for is that we find someone who can fill in adequately.
-
Yea...plus father time is a lot kinder to OL than any other position. The drop off tends to come over years, not year to year. Stan is still playing at the best in the CFL level. Even if his game drops a notch next year because of age it won't be a big pronounced drop off. If he turns into the second best OL in the league next year I can live with that.

The pubs and restaurants already have a good thing going because Argos fans do go out on game day...to them...instead of the game. But you are right, the logistical nightmare of getting to and from a game, couple with ownership that does absolutely zero to market the games had attendance at an all time low. The walkable, easy drive or public transit residential areas around BMO are populated primarily by non-traditional (european, asian, african immigrants) potential fans who will go to soccer games instead. If MLSE tied soccer and football together (mixed ticket packages or something) perhaps they could build interest amongst new Canadians to learn the game and develop a fan base that would actually attend. I owned a neighborhood restaurant/lounge at one time and the population demographics changed and I had to sell it to Chinese immigrants who now have a successful dim sum place. It happens. I moved to the other end of the city, where my former demographic had all moved, and enjoyed success again with a lot of my former regulars actually showing up. lol. The Argos can't pivot like that unless they can find stadium space outside the metro but if they could it would probably help a lot. -

I'm not sure. I'll ask my brother what his thoughts are on it. I did find this link though... https://3downnation.com/2021/10/08/getting-to-bmo-field-in-toronto-is-a-terrible-experience/
