Back to Back Champs vs Hillbillies early talk
GCn20 replied to Nolby's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I just think that Robertson, Marino, AC are all very over rated. Their sack numbers are inflated due to the time their defence spends on the field. Riders LBers are top notch though. Even with a beat up secondary, the Stamps group is far better than the Riders. Those guys are terrible. -

I think that the CGY front 7 is very comparable SSK's to be honest. They generate great pressure, and have a really good LBer corps. SSK pumps their own tires but there are some really good front 7 guys in CGY. The RIders may be a fraction better on their front 7, but Calgary's secondary is MUCH better than the Riders. Overall, I think CGY has the better defence, but even if it is a saw off, or CGY is a fraction, and it would be a very small fraction, not as good the disparity between the two offences is enormous. A giant chasm the size of the grand canyon difference there.....and we swept CGY. -

It is definitely a money issue. Stern could not get those handling the estate of Spiegel to continue to float cheques for the Als and he isn't a big enough fish to do it himself. At the end of the day, the Als were needing new ownership no matter what. Unfortunate that Spiegel passed just after buying the Als, but this day was coming by all accounts. -
Week 12 - Stumps @ Back-To-Back Grey Cup Champions - GDT

That is true, and we did it just by running the ball down their throats. I am now remorseful that O'Shea didn't send out the FG unit, get 3 more points, and give the contrarians nothing to talk about. -

The ref obviously didn't feel it was close. You don't just let every play continue because you may have gotten it wrong. FACT: The Stamps had over a half of football to overcome the 3 points they lost. FACT: They couldn't do it FACT: We don't know how this game turns out if the call was different. Plenty of ifs and buts could have went the other way too and maybe we have a 20 point lead going into the 4th Q. Just a losers game trying to suggest a first half FG was the difference. -

For sure. A botched call in the first half is not the reason the Bombers won, nor was any other botched call. Did it change the game? Sure...at the time it did, like any other play changes a game, but at the end of the day it is one play with over a half of football left to play. Calgary had ample opportunity to try and win but couldn't score on us when it mattered. That's the bottom line. The way our offence was playing I am fully confident we would have driven the field if necessary at the end. -

Fans can complain about calls until the cows come home but blaming them for a win/loss is stupid. Ifs and buts are for losers, whiners, and contrarians. -

Precisely, we just finished the season sweep of a team who has, BY FAR, the best running game in the league...with better QBing, and infinitely better OL play, and is equally as good or better defensively....yet we are supposed to be scared of the Riders? Makes zero sense. Not sure what Bugsy is smoking. The only way the Bombers lose is if the Bombers beat themselves. LDC is pencilled in as a loss on my Bombers pre-season schedule every year. It is their Grey Cup. That being said, this year we are a far better team than them. -

Calgary got elite RB, and QB play last week. We won. Not sure why you think a watered down Regina version of that would place us in "big trouble". That is some pretty convoluted logic. BC had almost zero offence because their QBing was trash. Our offence will not give the Riders a chance at finding their rhythm like BC's did last week. -

GCn20 replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No kidding eh? The what if game is just a complete straw man argument. Just a nonsense take, to consistently suggest a team with a 10-1 record had the game handed to them by the refs, by luck, or because the other team didn't play well. I'm not even going to be civil about it, because it is completely moronic and really grating after awhile. We won last night because we were the better team and outscored our opponent. FULL STOP. -

I have watched the CFL for over 40 years now. I have seen hundreds of games decided by one score or less. I can count on one hand the number of those games where a different call made, or a call missed, by the ref would not have POSSIBLY changed the outcome of the game. If ifs and buts were coconuts we'd all be living in Hawaii. There is nothing more stupid or aggravating then someone blaming a loss on the refs, or a win being discredited for the same. That's just a fact of life of sports. If you want to win make damn sure you put up enough points that the refs don't matter. Just a fool's errand to go searching for a call here, or a missed call there, in the CFL of all leagues. Good lord. -

Or we could have had them punting 2 plays later and it made no difference at all. For everyone who says the holding call lost them the game, that simply isn't the case. There was no guarantee they were scoring points even if the call wasn't made. -

You can challenge roughing the passer, both for or against, in the CFL. -

If you couldn't hit a QB in the shoulders, there would almost be nowhere left to hit. -
Week 12 - Stumps @ Back-To-Back Grey Cup Champions - GDT
GCn20 replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There is absolutely no rule in the CFL rule book, past or present, that penalizes a player for hitting a QB in the shoulders. I challenge you to find even one instance of a CFL ref calling that except in error. There is absolutely no way on god's green earth the refs got that one right. You are out to lunch on your take even by your normal bad take standards. TB is absolutely 100% wrong on that. It was just a bad call, probably looked different from the refs angle. The bigger crime was that command centre, or an O'Shea challenge, didn't overturn it. However, I do believe it was being ruled an incomplete pass so that may have been Osh's reasoning. -

I wonder how sustainable that kind of YAC output is. Maier made every throw, and is fabulous at the dink and dunk, but I just don't see half your passing yards as YAC being something an offence can sustain. -

I'd like to see reserve judgement for a few more games on Maier. All I saw last night was dink and dunk by him for the most part. Eventually the DCs around the league will scheme that away and we will see what he's got. He looks like he should be the real deal though, but I have not seen every throw from him yet. -

When a QB places a ball right in the receivers bread basket without him even adjusting to the ball, in full stride, it is not luck at all. At least not luck on the QB. Luck might be assigned to the receiver that his natural instinct was to feel the ball hit him in the bread basket and to wrap his arm around it as he was being interfered with. The throw though, no luck at all, pure skill. -

I stand corrected. Sorry about that. Only exception being that Paredes rookie year his longest FG was 50. It was year 3 he hit a 52 yarder. Splitting hairs though really. I certainly am not disagreeing that we could probably do better in the short term than Liegghio. -

I thought my post was pretty clear that I was not encouraging brawling in the stands. I am most certainly not blaming the CFL for levying a fine for a rule both they, and the CFLPA, have agreed upon. My objection is that I believe that the rule is lame, or at the very least the parameters are layed out poorly. I see no imminent danger to players interacting with their own fans. I don't disagree with anything you are saying but would like to point out that up until this year Paredes's longest FG was 48 yards. One of my concerns about Liegghio entering the year was his leg strength. I have been pleasantly surprised by that this year. His accuracy is much improved, and he just needs to nail down the mental aspect of the game. Something a lot of young kickers struggle initially with.
