2022 CFL Free Agency(Rumors/official signings)
GCn20 replied to Nolby's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Maybe so, and maybe one of these guys breaks through and we can beef up elsewhere, but I think Walters probably has an in season war chest available for a few positions in case things don't work out as planned or someone too good to pass up becomes available at the right price. I mean we didn't sign Mitchell until a month or two after FA began last year and Walters had told us he was broke iirc. -
When gas hits nearly 2 bucks a litre later this week, things are going to get real for the Liberals. The next election won't be fought on the agenda of the left like the past 3 have. A large part of the population are at, or are nearing, their financial breaking point. That's the reality. Hyperinflation, taxation, housing prices, cost of living, these are going to be the platform of interest in the next election imo.

Stove was a guy on the way up we couldn't afford anymore. I don't hold it against him for going and taking BC's big bucks. Best of luck. He was a pure effort guy but our DL is so stacked we realistically can't afford a top DT salary. -

Bryant is on my wish list as well. I just think we are not done at receiver yet, and neither is Walters. Last year with our full receiving complement coming back, including Lawler, he went out and signed Mitchell because he saw upgrading receiver as a priority. I can't see it being less of one now. Granted dollars are tight, but maybe he has set an amount aside for it. Probably wishful thinking, but here's hoping. It's probably far more likely that we wait until some NFL returnees are cut adrift in August though. -
I don't see Prukop as any worse than LeFevour or McGuire. It would be great if a new QB came in and surprised a la Streveler in 2018.

Severe and crippling economic sanctions need to be levied. We shall see if Biden has the stones.

Depends on position. I would think a receiver could bounce back quickly. He signed with us last year for 85k before retiring albeit that was the prorated amount. Not sure why he would demand almost triple now? -

Matt Nichols went from 3rd string cut adrift to starter among the league leaders. Steven Jyles, albeit a brief stop here, went from 3rd string to leagues best passing rating under Lapo and then quickly regressed after leaving. Hell, even Collaros who had lost his job and was twice traded found his game in Lapo's offence. I get that Lapo's offence is boring and not much fun to watch but I completely disagree that a QB can't flourish in it. In fact, i would suggest it is a perfect system for some QBs to hide their deficiencies in. -

I think it was us that told him that or Ottawa since we run almost the same offence. In our offence receivers must be good blockers for the run game and our short passing game. -

That could be said about a lot of successful OC's. In the past 10 years, only 2 teams have won Grey Cups with a QB developed by their club. Lapolice is one of the two OCs in the past 10 years that can say that. I get that you hate him, but let it go, he is Ottawa's problem now and you are really starting to reach. -
Rod Pederson has said numerous times on his podcast that there were a tons of opinions and criticisms he had that had to remain behind closed doors, because CKRM was pro-Riders in all and every comment.
-
I agree. When you sign on as CKRM's pbp guy there is a Rider bootlicker behavioral clause built in. Taylor would have much more freedom to present non-biased coverage with CJOB and I suspect, if he comes here, that was a big factor.

Making the roster doesn't necessarily mean anything to that contract. Be invisible the first 2-3 games and you might be cut. Without a big portion of salary already paid out at risk a 300k has to make the roster and immediately produce his worth in game cheques. -

His play went beyond his stats, but yea, i am not sure he's a starter. -

I wish that ball did NOT hit the uprights as it almost certainly was going to be intercepted. I hate that people think it was an act of god. Our DB had undercut that route, Even if he gets it under the bar, we still knock it down and over the bar is for sure an interception. He telegraphed that throw imo. Not to mention it was the exact same route as the previous play, The only thing hitting the bar did was take away the remote chance that they might get a pass interference call. Everyone figured out that reverse pivot in late 2019 and his play has been average ever since. -

A late TC cut or early season cut and guaranteed he'll be lucky to get half his salary from another team. No one is sitting on that much SMS at that point. Well he's betting on himself big time, and if he gets the 300k he will have earned it fully. He will have to be among the league leaders, or at least the best on his team by a longshot, and not make any waves whatsoever and also hope that Edmonton scouting doesn't find a receiver that catches Jones's eye in TC and makes him realize 300k is crazy. Working in his favor is that Walker is coming off a down season and if he doesn't vastly improve he would likely be the first to go. -

A lot of GMs would do it. If he comes into camp and performs poorly, or out of shape, nicked up, you better believe any GM would get that 300k off the books. It's a one year contract so if there is any doubt that the cost will outweigh the benefit...buh bye. There is no sunk money to consider. It was a smart move by Jones, and a dumb move by Lawler. Lawler has put himself in the position where he essentially must be the best receiver in the league or his salary might make him a casualty. -

99% of the big contracts come with a signing bonus in case the GM gets buyers remorse or a player gets nicked in camp and the GM feels he may not get his moneys worth. If, for instance, Lawler were to have a multi week injury near the end of camp....might Jones cut him? He might. Its a 300k contract...if a guy is going to miss half or 2/3 of the season and you don't have any signing bonus paid out already it would be far more tempting to do so. Minimum contracts don't generally come with signing bonuses but there is no real benefit to cutting a guy on minimum salary unless he was on the bubble already because it costs the same to replace him. When you salary is astronomical like Lawler's any multi-game injury or a slow start to the season and you might be shown the door without the protection of a signing bonus already paid out that will make teams more apt to 6 game you, or let you play through a slow start or slump. -
2022 Off Season - Back 2 Back Champs Edition
GCn20 replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
His highs are way too high, and his lows are way too low. Not being able to manage emotions is not a particularly good trait to have as a QB. That, and he can't hit the broad side of a barn beyond 20 yards are the two factors that will keep him in the medium wrung of CFL QBs for the rest of his career. He can execute the short and intermediate games pretty efficiently but then a few completions in a row get to his head and he starts chucking long balls....and he is terrible at them...and then his confidence is shot again. Same story with him over and over again. Against the right defence he can have success, but anyone who keep him in the pocket and takes the middle of the field away from him in coverage will beat him more often than not. -

There is literally no one available that I would be comfortable with if we had an injury to Collaros for an extended period of time. That includes Nichols, and even Streveler. -
I guess you are the front runner if you are the only announced candidate. I suspect that Mackay give Pollievre a pretty good run. Lots of PC support for Mackay still, and Charest is definitely a wild card. Lots of political savvy and he would do damage to the Liberals in Quebec. This leadership contest will depend on whether the small C majority of the membership actually shows up. It has been the Alberta show for a long time in the party and there are a lot of CPC members who are ready to take back the party.
-
That's going too far, but I get why you feel that way. Frustrating.
-
I tend to agree. Personally, I protest voted in the last federal election because I just didn't want any of them but your concerns are probably in the back of the vast majority of CPC potential voters right now. I know many people who would swing back to the CPC if these issues were to sort themselves out favorably. Right now it's hold your nose and vote and many people are hoping the CPC becomes a viable alternative.

I found it odd for sure. Not odd that Toronto signed him, but odd that Lapo didn't. Toronto is like a kid in the candy store just buying anything that's available and hoping it tastes good. Then there is Jonesie shopping the stale dated candy in the clearance aisle hoping it doesn't taste too terribly bad. Honestly, if a team is going out and signing 20 players in FA, I think Ottawa probably did the best job. -
Yea...the Premier literally has nothing to do with the WPS.
