  1. Receivers are only as good as the QB and the OL protecting him. I expect big numbers from whoever we roll out at receiver because our QB has time to find them and the arm to deliver the ball. I am not knocking Lawler but realistically he is not the top receiver in the league last year playing for someone else.
  2. Edmonton was an absolute gong show last year...300k...yea that's probably the number he had to go to get him. In defense of Jones, he inherited a franchise in disarray and it takes money to lure guys to a rebuild. He needed to establish Edmonton as a destination for free agents and that means some overpaying for a couple years.
  3. Duke's a great 50/50 guy but his speed, especially after returning from the NFL overweight, is suspect.
  4. Ellingson is a very similar type receiver to Lawler so not surprised at all. As I said in another thread I think we may now work on getting another receiver and go 2 fo1 on what we would have had to pay Lawler.
  5. If you have to replace a receiver like Lawler who has great hands, runs great routes, and wins 50/50 balls then Greg Ellingson is one of the guys that fits that mold to a tee.
  6. I somehow don't think we are done for receivers. I just have a gut feeling that we may bring back Bryant Mitchell. Not basing it on anything though.
  7. Riderfans, whose 260k man is one of the slowest receivers in the league, are suggesting that we need to time our receiving corps with a sun dial. Ellingson could run circles around Duke.
  8. I'm guessing that Dean will get his walking papers. Neither guy is particularly well suited for WIL.
  9. Teams know they not only have to get better but also weaken us, and that costs considerable money because players want to stay here. Not advocating for 300k receiver salaries but realistically how much chance does anyone in this league have if they don't at least dent our roster. Lawler will be a top 10 receiver in this league but McAdoo's offence is not a great fit for him. I wish him well though. I can guarantee that 3 of his games he will play just became the toughest games he will have since he entered this league. He has never played against a Winston Rose or Deatrich Nichols and their team that makes QBs rush their throws. That's going to be 3 games he gets against the Bombers and 3 games he doesn't get against the porous Edmonton secondary...that should knock him down a few pegs on the league receiving list. Hey, if Jones, ODay, and the Lions want to blow their brains out stocking up on IMP receiver instead of fixing horrible problems in their trenches it just makes them that much easier to beat. We can live without Lawler....what if they had stolen one of the Jeffs, Bryant, Yoshi, or Couture....that would have been a problem.
  10. Our defence is our strength. All our offence has to be is competent and our OL and QB already ensure that. Sucks to lose Lawler and Harris? but realistically we have replaced Harris already and will need 1500-1700 yds to replace Lawler/Adams.
  11. Andrew Harris is important to the locker room if he comes back but predicting the doom of our culture or other players being disgruntled by it is a massive reach. These guys are pros and they understand that anyone can go at anytime. They will come to camp and not miss a beat without him. I love Harris but if he leaves it really hurts the sentimentality of the fans far more than the team.
  12. Yea no kidding. Jeff has no right to comment about Andrew after that screw job.
  13. Andrew's legacy is secure AFTER he retires. If he moves onto another team he is the enemy in my books and I hope we hit him hard and we hit him often.
  14. There were reports this week about it. He came to camp unprepared and the coaches felt this is what contributed to his injury situation. That was the report this week that Harris was not happy with decisions on his injury.
  15. There are reports he came to camp out of shape and clashed with coaches last year. I didn't want to be the guy bringing that up but you wanted to cry about the FIFO usage. If these rumors are true then FIFO does apply to Harris. Sorry, but not sorry.
  16. Scheer and O'Toole never came close to attacking Trudeau....and that was their path to victory. Both men tried to pass off the nice guy image and that doesn't engage anyone. Pollievre is an attack dog and he's VERY good at it.
  17. I would think they have maxxed out on offensive skill player salaries. For the life of me, I can't figure out what they see in Rourke but that's a seperate issue altogether. They need to spend dollars on D now....especially DL where they were cream puffs last year. I honestly believe we will bring back Adams. He is pretty cheap. I am not confident on Lawler. I am hopeful though. At any rate I am sure that KW has put away a couple hundred grand for a 1A receiver,
  18. If you say so. He will likely be the next leader and he will likely beat Trudeau.
  19. I never saw that, well then I retract my support for her. Pierre Pollievre might be the best chance for the CPC. He has his warts but is a very compelling speaker that is very good at rabble rousing.
  20. For sure. Mackay is probably more popular outside his party than he is in it. Problem is that the Reform Party still has a ton of sway on the party and would never allow a PCer to get the leadership. The political pressure to drop or at least vastly reduce any restrictions is very strong right now. Recent Angus Reid says that a majority of Canadians want them vastly reduced. It's not a fringe minority like anti vaxxers.
  21. Not true. Our defence was BRUTAL from 2004-2006 but we finished with very good offensive numbers and scoring in each of those years. Just didn't translate into wins because we were getting scored on so much. 2001-2003 our offence was elite. Khari took a lot of big shots in 04'and'05 but that had more to do with his penchant for hanging onto the ball too long to make a play because our defence was surrendering 30 pts a game.
  22. They didn't get hammered the night before the Grey Cup. Also, the OL that Charlie had for most of his time as a Bomber was top notch as well.
  23. That team needs a rebuild of character for sure. Lots of Chris Jones still left there.
  24. As a small C conservative I am hoping for Mackay, Lewis, or Pollievre....all for different reasons but all can appeal to the swing voters. As long as wingnuts like Sloan never see the light of day. O'Toole had the right idea but was just too wishy washy. I was honestly flabbergasted when OToole beat Mackay.
  25. I am not throwing shade on Charlie Roberts, but Andrew Harris showed up in the playoffs and that's the difference to me.
