  1. Mock me if you want but it's probably going to happen. When the GOP take the house in 2023, they will begin by impeaching Biden. Whether it's justified or not we shall see, but I guarantee they will do so. They are already working on it. I am not saying I agree with it, but it's almost a foregone conclusion. The state of politics in the US is so toxic right now that I am not sure why anyone wouldn't think this is the case. Now, I fully realize that this means that the GOP must take the house, but American history shows that the Amerks like to make sure that at least one branch of the executive is opposite of the President. https://www.cnn.com/2022/04/03/politics/house-midterms-2022-republicans-democrats/index.html https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/ted-cruz-impeach-biden/2022/01/04/afc3f7ac-6da0-11ec-aaa8-35d1865a6977_story.html
  2. The GOP are not the only ones whose hands are soiled by Russian rubles. Looks like old smokin' Joe will be looking at impeachment too. How sad for the USA that they will have back to back impeached presidents. They really need to get better people running over there.
  3. I agree. Most people's commitment to acting on their beliefs is largely driven by how convenient it is to do so.
  4. Are you making the argument that past war crimes justify present and future ones?
  5. I agree. He shouldn't go poking bears.
  6. Would make a difference along the lines as it would require DL to be even that much further back, however, I agree that otherwise the difference wouldn't even be noticed. However, I don't see the point in it either. Whether it's a 110 yard field or 100m field....it would just be changing for the sake of change and offering no upgrade to the game whatsoever. No I don't believe that is what he is saying at all. He's saying staying on top is tough....and he's not wrong.
  7. I define the middle as a government that maintains/improves social services, keeping taxes stagnant, and running small to no deficits. I think many people share that as a view of the middle of the political spectrum. By that definition what we have seen from the Liberals is definitely a sharp turn to the left. Deficits were already out of control before the pandemic and are now staggering due to the pandemic. The overwhelming majority of PC supporters believe in science and were supportive of pandemic policies. There is a far right faction in our party that doesn't but they are the minority. I think you need to take a look at the deficits Trudeau ran compared to Harper/Chretien/Martin then tell me that Trudeau's spending was normal.
  8. It absolutely is true. The problem is that whenever someone swings in right/left fashion they tend to move the goal posts of what moderation is along with them. It would be insane to suggest that society in general hasn't moved sharply to the left in the past 20 years and politicians have picked right up on it. They aren't stupid. We have the Federal Liberal party occupying the space that the NDP once held and abandoning the middle, while the NDP largely are content to share that space not knowing what to do next. Justin Trudeau is easily the most left of centre prime minister in the history of Canada. I'm not judging the spectrum, just pointing out that there has been a huge shift. Who said the left has become radical? I stated both the right and left have swung away from the middle. I think there is a massive chunk of voters who still reside in the middle of the political spectrum and the party that can swing back to the middle will be the one that will have future success. If Jean Charest is able to convince the small C conservatives to take back the party from the Reformers the Liberals will have to take a good hard look at their leadership and their sharp move to the left of the spectrum. If Pollievre wins, it remains a polarized **** show.
  9. Calgary is the 4th largest city BECAUSE of the oil patch. Alberta is creeping up on BC because of the oil patch. Both Calgary and Alberta has seen population and business levels decline since the oil patch slowed down. They go part and parcel. Alberta is not as resilient as you think. Losing oil will be a blow to that economy. No one is suggesting that Alberta will become a ghost town or anything, but it would be foolish to think that a replacement for even a fraction of the oil industry's economic power in the province is easily recovered. Alberta's population rate has been slowing quarter over quarter for the past several years and is half of what is was 10 years ago. Wait and see what happens when provincial governments have to start taxing to pay the bills. https://financialpost.com/opinion/jack-mintz-will-alberta-become-a-have-not-province-if-it-loses-oil-and-gas#:~:text=As the table shows%2C without,Alberta would become much poorer. Of course, the above article is only valid if the province does nothing to diversify however that was my original point. The UPC or NDP or whatever incarnation of a party is in power desperately needs to start working now on a future for Alberta that is not almost completely reliant on oil keeping it from being a have not province.
  10. The issue is that there is no more moderation in politics and it alienates a lot of people. The right has swung strongly to the right, the left has swung strongly to the left, and neither of these are good scenarios so it all becomes a toss up of who can win the war of words. Neither side is particularly strong on policy that makes much sense so sensationalism, finger pointing, and dog whistle politics is all we get now.
  11. Whoever is the next premier of Alberta better come up with some kind of strategy because an entire province operating on one industry could be a disaster for the entire country. Right now Alberta desperately needs another oil boom or to diversify. It may need both. An oil boom to provide enough time for diversification. The problem with Alberta's scenario is businesses don't tend to want to come to NDP led provinces without massive incentives to do so.
  12. Sure...it's helping but gone are the hay days of the boom and that is unlikely to happen again. Alberta's in a real tough spot too. Without the oil industry there isn't a ton going on there.
  13. To be fair, nowhere in his comments did Trump ask for Putin's help. He said that Putin may have information on Hunter that he should release but nowhere does he ask him to do so. Fake news from the right....fake news from the left....and everyone wonders why the world is so polarized right now. Shameful journalism all around the political spectrum.
  14. Unfortunately, there are many reasons why people in Toronto stay home and watch. Toronto has such an elitist undercurrent that many people are just not willing to admit they are CFL fans.
  15. Alberta has been in sharp decline for a number of years now.
  16. They are basically the same, one a little more public with her love of dictatorships, terrorism, and anti-semitism. Steve is too savvy to wear his heart on his sleeve because he had leadership aspirations.
  17. Niki Ashton never ran for leadership of the NDP. Steve did, As for Wab's admission of guilt, he only apologized for the crimes he was convicted of and were public record. He owes the woman he beat up an apology, at the very least, and his case was only stayed because of procedural reasons. He got away with it in a court of law but not in the court of public opinion. Like I said, there are a great many indigenous people who know Wab very well and have known him for many years, they believe the alleged victim is being honest.
  18. Yea, he did great in Reacher and was really good in TItans too. About frikken time
  19. The thing is Wab hasn't owned it at all despite the fact the woman he abused has come forward and even has proof of the injuries she sustained. This is why he is not well liked in the native community. His ex is a pretty respected member of the native community and our people believe her. Just stupid. These people had the right to gather and protest. In fact, I am glad they did. They just did it very stupidly and selfishly and I am glad they will face the consequences of such moronic protest planning.
  20. You gotta hand it to Putin, he achieved a level of thievery in 20 years that our politicians have been striving to do for 200 years now.
  21. He's not entirely wrong. There is much debate about the effectiveness of carbon taxes and other green energy policies around the world. Not that green energy policies shouldn't exist but how they should be done and what should happen first. Reality is that the world as a whole is not ready to stop using fossil fuels in any meaningful way and little is being done to advance the infrastructures necessary to do so, and most green energy experts suggest that should be the first step of any green energy policy. The United Nations council for climate change, which is an international think tank of the world's most foremost green energy experts, has suggested that most of the industrialized world is going about it all wrong right now.
  22. I agree. You take a look at a team like the RIders who will be rolling out 4 pretty unremarkable NAT OLs and it is quite likely going to be a main reason they will lose in the first round of the playoffs AGAIN. They could easily have passed on the expensive but really quite average NAT OT but chose to take him anyway and kill any chance they have of improving a very poor OL. If they go with a good IMP OT instead they might be able to hide some of the deficiencies of their 3 NAT OL and allow their OTs to play on an island so that Clark can double team and help out hapless Ferland or Johnson who is vastly overmatched against guys like Richardson, or Micah. Instead they will ask Dan Clark to actually block one on one and have to get Johnson to help out his shiny new NAT OT if possible. All in the name of ratio. What really baffles me is that they have enough NAT talent in their roster that they could make ratio without going 4 NAT OL and choose to do so anyway. Weird.
  23. I am lucky. I don't look aboriginal so don't face it nearly as much, but my wife is aboriginal and the treatment she gets when we go out is deplorable. When I show my treaty card or declare my status for various reasons my treatment changes drastically as well. There is a massive undercurrent of racism that exists towards natives, particularly in the city of Winnipeg, and I see it most in what I would think are very key demographics for NDP success. The South of Winnipeg is a no fly zone for most native people as the racism we encounter there is staggering.
  24. I agree. I just think that given the state of the leaders of the big two parties in our province that the Liberals could see a dead cat bounce, much like when Sharon Carstairs benefitted from some underwhelming choices put forward by the NDP and PCs back in the day.
  25. Wab is not well liked at all except by those who already vote NDP. Many swing voters will not support him and when the inevitable smear campaign that will come against him starts, many people will swing back to the PCs or place their vote elsewhere. I have no doubt that this is likely to be a majority NDP victory next election, my prediction is simply that Wab does not have the personal appeal to make it a huge majority. I, also, hate to say it but there will be a fair amount of racism against him due to his ethnicity. That saddens me as an indigenous person myself, but if you guys only knew what we hear and overhear on a daily basis from people who pretend not to be racist you would understand. I quite frankly think that there is a fair number of people who do not like this government but will not vote for an indigenous premier. When given the option there is certain amount of the NDP support that likely just doesn't show up to vote. Probably not enough to swing an election but surely enough to keep the NDP seat count down despite what the polls say. I hope that Manitoba is better than that, but based on my life experiences I am skeptical, and the very worst of it is in the CIty of Winnipeg.
