  1. Don't know where to start. If you got a couple names I can go from there. He has some very fundamental flaws as a GM for sure....and his drafting is off the hook bad.
  2. Perhaps, you could point me towards some because I follow the CFL closely and the only player I've heard talk trash about him was Almondo. If there are more please do tell. I'm not being factious, you have genuinely peaked my interest and now I need to know.
  3. Based on Jones history, QB has never been a priority of his. I could see him sticking with Arbuckle for a season at least. He will go hard after defensive players that he feels have been overlooked by other teams imo. So sour grapes then that should be taken with a grain of salt. Look I'm not suggesting that Harris is the end all be all, but as a backup at a backup salary any team would be foolish not to do it. This idea that teams must build their own QBs is just not accurate.
  4. I have not read any accusations that he did not get along with teammates. There were issues surrounding his vax status but he eventually relented and got dosed. There was an ex-player who called him soft but later suggested he was a great locker room leader. Bottom line is that I wouldn't want Harris as my starter but he would be a first rate backup by any measurable. I would like a developmental guy as well but in all honestly I don't think McGuire is that guy and when you can only dress 2 QBs I don't want a raw rookie dressing as backup.
  5. Willie J followed Jones to the Riders when he was an unknown, and quite frankly got taken advantage of by Jones. In his final season with the Riders Willie was being paid 165k and when he had a MODP calibre season (narrowly losing the West nod to Biggie), Jones lowballed him again to the point that Willie declared he was going to test FA even BEFORE Jones left. I really think that Willie loving Jones is a thing of the past and his final days in Regina seem to confirm that. O'Day made several last ditch efforts to re-sign Willie in the week he had to do so but by that time the damage was done and Walters back door men had let Willie know he would get a fair contract and better treatment a few hours west.
  6. Take a look at Jones roster in SSK and it wasn't built on FA. He is not a big spender in that regard. The only big FA that he ever signed was Charleston Hughes. Jones likes to GM to prove he is the smartest guy in the room. He loves to roll the dice on players he thinks underachieved elsewhere because his ego believes he can rebuild them. His roster Rider is literally all guys that Murphy recruited or other teams let walk to FA for one reason or another. Even Hughes was a guy Hufnagel let walk to FA because he thought he was past his best before date. Huf was wrong on that one...but those are the types Jones likes to sign.
  7. I like Eddie Steele, and respect his braveness to tell everyone what they already knew, but at the end of the day he is a big time Eskimo homer. Before the Esks slide and his eventual termination he was as nauseating and outlandish as Luc Mullinder. There will be a few guys who go Chris Jones way because he allows his defences to run the room, but he is a notoriously cheap GM at contract time. I don't see a parade of FA's going his way because even in SSK he couldn't really attract many. Most of his guys were always reclamation projects or weird out of position experiments. Name a top notch FA that he was able to land and more importantly keep. He even lowballed Willie and was the guy that eventually caused the rift that walked him out the door in SSK.
  8. I am more scared they will go hard after Kenny Lawler to fill one of their DB vacancies. If he'll take backup money I would gladly have him on board.
  9. No not the same play, he sent Banks, who was in blocking, somersaulting....just hilarious. On youtube they have the 108th Grey Cup highlights and the play in on there. Check it out. 7:02 of the 2nd Q. Just blew him up. At 3:42 of the video the play starts. Not sure if we are allowed to post YT links in here or not. If not, my apologies.
  10. Yeah...they weren't winning a vehicle per se, just the use of it for one year. Still a cool prize but not like you could sell it.
  11. Neufeld HATES the Rider organization. Bryant and Yoshi are about a safe a bet as you could ever get on retiring Bombers. Goosen doesn't fill a need for them. Desjarlais would be our only remotely possible loss on the starting OL. Walters will make him a priority and he will be one of the first guys re-signed. That leaves Tui (who can't play road games) and Gray (a WPGer) who is more likely to retire than leave for another CFL team. Not seeing any danger really of losing someone. IF we do, the only one it could be is Desjarlais.
  12. Just rewatched the game last night. Just saw a hellacious hit by Jeffcoat that I missed the first time. Just steamrolls the RB behind the play at 7:02 of the 2nd Q. I highly recommend anyone who didn't notice this one (behind the play) to take a look. Hilarious.
  13. He struggled badly with distance on anything more than 40 yards and his KO average was the lowest in the league. Maybe he was holding something off to try get accuracy but he was short, way short, on multiple FGs that were not outside the range one would expect of a CFL kicker.
  14. If the Bombers want to bring back McGuire I'm OK with that but it would be monumentally risky not to try upgrade at that position. He's a 3rd year guy, we should bring in a vet to either push him or unseat him at backup.
  15. Not the same. We didn't look at Paredes at all really. We have a season worth of evaluation on Liegghio. Plus his leg strength is questionable and that is not likely to change. Reminds me a lot of Justin Palardy who is a far more apt comparable imo.
  16. Looking at the list of FA QBs around the league, I don't see McGuire getting lured away by anyone really. That doesn't mean someone might not sign him to sit on a PR or something but realistically whatever contract we offer him will likely be as good as it gets....and I don't expect we will offer him much.
  17. Then you airlift someone in....or sign Liegghio.
  18. Castillo does punt...and actually is a pretty good punter. I just don't get a strong sense that releasing Liegghio, or any kicker for that matter, would come back and bite us hard.
  19. I wouldn't if we get Castillo back on a multi year. Hate to be brutally honest but it's not like he's got a power house leg that we're just waiting on.
  20. I like the term but my problem is when to use it. I mean realistically anything beyond 10 yards is a hail mary for Cody. Oh...my bad.
  21. You left out Collaros. Whether we like it or not he's a pending FA.
  22. They are not really melting down. I mean really...look at their roster....where are the all stars? Nope. They are sticking their fingers in their ears and suggesting they were the only team that suffered injuries this year while ignoring the fact their GM did nothing to fix that. I mean really....some of their injuries probably benefitted them. You look at Freddie Bishop and Lokombo's injuries in pre-season and you look at their replacements and it is almost a given they would not have played as well. Would Woodard have gotten much of a chance? I doubt it. Would Teitz have had his breakout season if Lokombo is in the lineup? Maybe not. Bottom line O'Day sucked this year. He let most of his OL walk away just prior to TC, he did nothing all season to replace Larry Dean who went down 1st of TC, and it wasn't until Duke got overpaid late in the season. that he addressed a receiving corps that was pretty brutal all season. Riderfan apologists saying there is no way JOD could have known Labatte and the other OL would do that, I say BS. Walters would have known because he was in his team's ear making sure they were coming. Especially the OL....just brutal GMing. You gotta know by FA who is staying and who is leaving. His OL retention has been absolute garbage and yes a lot of that is the team's fault. It has to be.
  23. I agree. He seemed to struggle with basic execution in that game. His accuracy was poor, and his reads were just as bad. I expect a first time starter to have happy feet and make some bad decisions/turnovers...that's a given. However, a guy with 2 years experience should have been able to come into the game and look decent in the short game at least. In my opinion, he folded under the Friday Night Lights and that is not a great characteristic to have in a player and it is not easy to coach that out of them.
  24. Pretty debatable that it helped them win a championship too, as Alex Hall was pretty much a bust when he went there.,
  25. In my experience returners on KOs are taught to never let a ball get behind them unless there is zero chance of catching it. It's rare air for a KO to go out the back of the end zone though so that's probably why.
