  1. Taman didn't exactly have a bevy of great homegrown NATs to try and attract home either. Not saying that is the reason that our NAT talent is so much better under Walters but it sure didn't hurt to have guys like Harris and Demski wanting to come home. That sure helped our cause significantly the past few years.
  2. That's all fine and dandy, but the FACT remains that the term marijuana is mainstream and has not been used with a racist connotation for a hundred years or so. If you want to drag up an obscure origin story, then peddle that as proof that it is a racist term than you are leaning past the far left into wing nut territory. Just my opinion but this is the kind of nonsense that takes credibility away from the woke movement, it doesn't add to it....but hey, if it's a hill you wanna die on to prove how woke you are...have at her.
  3. There is no cap if it is not an enforced cap. We went over it on more than one occasion and so did other teams. It was a guideline. There was no cap. Salaries were reported by the teams themselves with the CFL having no rights to look at the books.
  4. 4 pages about whether marijuana or cannabis is the right term. They're both right. Marijuana is not a racist term. That's just a far left leap right there.
  5. Taman's downfall was that he was never able to change his style to the SMS era. He is definitely capable of putting together a championship/championship calibre roster. In the SMS era he just does not have a hope of maintaining it. The 2013 Rider championship set back their team a number of years. Was there? There was an unenforced trial balloon at the end of his tenure. The SMS did not come into effect until 2007 which is the very tail end of his tenure here.
  6. It really is unfair to compare the two. Taman had no SMS, but budget considerations, while Kyle has an SMS but is able to spend with any team in the league. Both men had to take different tacts to try and succeed. Until SMS levelled the playing field though it was whoever could spend the most and most of the time that was Edmonton. Taman had the luxury of no SMS, so draft picks were not as valuable as they are now.
  7. Right now the Lapo system might be the best thing for BLM. His days as a gunslinger are over. He needs to re-invent himself if he is going to continue on.
  8. BLM might spark interest amongst the casual fan around the league, but anyone who follows the CFL closely would not be excited by BLM. He would be a big time risk based on some very clear problems with his ability to throw.
  9. That's a bit of an exaggeration, but football locker rooms have very high numbers of marijuana users as a general rule. Pat McAfee on his podcast said that NFL offseason weed use was extremely high among players, and that players took masking agents to beat the drug tests. He said every locker room had their suppliers of masking agents and they were state of the art. CFL players don't even need to mask it as it is not a prohibited substance and weed use is rampant in CFL locker rooms. Always has been, to the point that the CFLPA would not allow it to be on the list of PEDs the league proposed. Hate to break it to some posters on here but when Willie is talking about coming down to the Smoke he is talking about the fact that WInnipeg is known for how good it's weed supply is.
  10. Hate to break it to you but if the Bombers or any other CFL team were to get rid of the pot heads there wouldn't be many players left. Those won't but inability to play away games make it a pretty tough signing for any CFL team.
  11. If he won't get vaxxed he is useless to us or any other team really unless travel restrictions are lifted by July.
  12. First off let me say that Danielle Adams was a good personal friend of mine. She worked for me in her younger years, and we worked together on many charitable projects in the City of Thompson. It is with a heavy heart I respond to this. I just want to say that a lot of EMS response just isn't possible in a timely fashion in much of the North. Geographic distance between destinations just doesn't allow it. Where her accident occurred she was 2 hours away in any direction from the lifesaving equipment she needed which is the Jaws of Life. There is nowhere to even station one if the province wanted to. It is a lonely stretch of highway without even so much as a gas station for 400 kms. Having had a business and now a 2nd home in the North, I make the trip from Thompson to Winnipeg or vice versa 20 times a winter. In those years I have learned the lesson that one must be exceptionally aware of the weather forecast and highway conditions when planning your trip and have the flexibility to postpone travel until plows and/or weather improves or at the very least be willing to travel well below the speed limit in the trail position for hours on end. I have had near misses trying to pass semis kicking up white out passing conditions and now I just don't travel in the road/weather conditions like there were that day. I feel deeply for her and her family and wish she would have delayed her trip by a day instead of heading out into a blizzard like I am hearing she discussed with her husband. Thompson lost a good person that day. I wish her family all the best and sincerely hope that any members here planning a trip up North will heed my advice to do your homework on weather and road conditions before you come North, and if travelling here is unavoidable in bad weather be patient and arrive safely. Please do not think I am placing any of the blame on Adams for her tragedy. I am not. I am just trying to pass on lessons I have learnt over 30 years of travel down that road. Once you hit North of Grand Rapids the tree line to the road is narrow and snow is not swept off the road by the wind. It makes snow accumulation a big problem on the highway and it is very long stretch of highway to keep clear even if the plows were going 24 hours a day.
  13. I would appreciate the NFL format more if they didn't allow FGs in OT. Then you would at least have to earn the win on offence and not just get 3 first downs to win.....or move the first down sticks to 15 yards....something...too easy for a team with 4 downs to go 30 -35 yards and kick a FG.
  14. There is absolutely nothing embarrassing about a Bomber fan taking shots at the Riders. Good gravy man...think before you type.
  15. Without Ferguson telling us what constitutes a big time throw it is impossible to say that he is favoring anyone. For instance, if it is a TD throw when trailing late in a game then I could see a ton of QBs ahead of Collaros on the list. We rarely trailed in the 4th.
  16. Step away from the ledge everyone. I believe Hodge's CFL insider on this quote is Rod Pederson, who has shared this opinion multiple times on his podcast. If it is a Rod says it is 100% just his own speculation.
  17. Yep...clutch requires you to better than close but no cigar or hitting uprights on the last play.
  18. Derell Walker literally walked his routes until they finally sat him down. Elizondo totally lost control of his room and did nothing to get it back. If Jones can kick some ass and get control of the situation there is talent there. Some guys have to go though...Derell Walker I'm talking about you....
  19. I gotta be honest, I don't think the Elks problems were player talent. They have a pretty talent laden roster that enormously underachieved through a combination of god awful coaching, a deep locker room rift that developed because Edmonton was the one team that did not meet the vax quota so their entire locker room was subject to massive restrictions on their freedom, and a GM/Pres that seemed content to let it all happen. The Esks with a couple tweaks and a coach that reigns in that locker room has a pretty decent talent base there.
  20. Don't know where to start. If you got a couple names I can go from there. He has some very fundamental flaws as a GM for sure....and his drafting is off the hook bad.
  21. Perhaps, you could point me towards some because I follow the CFL closely and the only player I've heard talk trash about him was Almondo. If there are more please do tell. I'm not being factious, you have genuinely peaked my interest and now I need to know.
  22. Based on Jones history, QB has never been a priority of his. I could see him sticking with Arbuckle for a season at least. He will go hard after defensive players that he feels have been overlooked by other teams imo. So sour grapes then that should be taken with a grain of salt. Look I'm not suggesting that Harris is the end all be all, but as a backup at a backup salary any team would be foolish not to do it. This idea that teams must build their own QBs is just not accurate.
  23. I have not read any accusations that he did not get along with teammates. There were issues surrounding his vax status but he eventually relented and got dosed. There was an ex-player who called him soft but later suggested he was a great locker room leader. Bottom line is that I wouldn't want Harris as my starter but he would be a first rate backup by any measurable. I would like a developmental guy as well but in all honestly I don't think McGuire is that guy and when you can only dress 2 QBs I don't want a raw rookie dressing as backup.
  24. Willie J followed Jones to the Riders when he was an unknown, and quite frankly got taken advantage of by Jones. In his final season with the Riders Willie was being paid 165k and when he had a MODP calibre season (narrowly losing the West nod to Biggie), Jones lowballed him again to the point that Willie declared he was going to test FA even BEFORE Jones left. I really think that Willie loving Jones is a thing of the past and his final days in Regina seem to confirm that. O'Day made several last ditch efforts to re-sign Willie in the week he had to do so but by that time the damage was done and Walters back door men had let Willie know he would get a fair contract and better treatment a few hours west.
  25. Take a look at Jones roster in SSK and it wasn't built on FA. He is not a big spender in that regard. The only big FA that he ever signed was Charleston Hughes. Jones likes to GM to prove he is the smartest guy in the room. He loves to roll the dice on players he thinks underachieved elsewhere because his ego believes he can rebuild them. His roster Rider is literally all guys that Murphy recruited or other teams let walk to FA for one reason or another. Even Hughes was a guy Hufnagel let walk to FA because he thought he was past his best before date. Huf was wrong on that one...but those are the types Jones likes to sign.
