Priority one...as has been priority one since Khari got too banged up to be effective...find a top notch CFL franchise QB. Amazing that no one has done that yet. The best we've had and continue to field is mediocre. James Franklin gives Walters a chance to make up for missing the boat on several very good QBs. Will he pursue that as doggedly as he should...probably not...and we will have to build an excellent team to prop up a mediocre QB in Nichols if we want to have any shot at a championship. How does a team like Ottawa get a championship in 3 short years? Easy sign 2 franchise QBs. How does a team like Calgary manage to stay on top for so long....easy...replace a top notch franchise QB with a top notch franchise QB. How does Edmonton go from **** show to champions in two years....easy...sign Mike Reilly. This isn't rocket science and I am disappointed that the Bombers seem resigned to another year with an average at best QB.

I think it's pretty clear to see that Franklin is a lot more comparable to Collaros or Reilly than to Willy. Willy had a couple of mediocre starts with brief flashes of good play before coming to the Bombers. Reilly and Collaros had both shown the ability to dominate the opposition, much like Franklin has shown. I would not be uneasy in the least handing our starting QB position to Franklin. He is a stud.

Around The League Off Season Discussion
GCn20 replied to Bomber_fanaddict's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
There has been some considerable chatter around Edmonton that Hervey is trying to extend Franklin beyond this year. -
This poll is historically a joke. The questions are leading, or do not provide an option to choose that reflects your opinion. For that reason I believe the poll is a joke.

Trade Barker & Milanovich for O'Shea & Walters?
GCn20 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I would hire Barker in a heart beat as our QB scout....but that's about it. -
Next .... What changes will bring a Championship?
GCn20 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I don't believe our QB, receiving corps, and parts of DL and Lber crew are championship calibre. Don't have to fix them all but it would be nice. I would start at QB. I'm not sold on Nichols. Does anyone here truly believe that he is a championship calibre QB. -
I'm glad he's healthy and I hope he remains healthy until next year so that Loffler can earhole him again.

Sounds like Chungh might not be a free agent

I believe he was fired with term remaining though. Unless he accepted a buy out already he cannot take a CFL job until after the Super Bowl. -
I could be too old school to think otherwise as well....but all I know is when Loffler rocked him I jumped out of my seat. Nicest hit all year!!
-
No it makes perfect sense. You just aren't understanding that hard contact football, you know the way it is supposed to be played, is now politically incorrect. We have the mamby pamby media, politicians, and alarmists running around telling us how a beautifully executed text book hit like Loffler's should be eliminated from the game. Mamby pambies. I have little doubt that even though my opinion is correct from a football purist point of view, that many on here will strongly disagree with me and take issue with it. Why/ Not because they could give 2 figs about Arceneaux's melon....it's because the other night they sat down and watched the media proclaim it as barbarian and then flipped over to Netflix and watched that stupid Will Smith movie about it. That my friend is a textbook definition of it not being PC.

Yep...you can't teach stupid. He'll stay in the NFL for the fatter cheque. -
I have a very reliable CFL source that has told me that this has nothing to do with the Grey Cup or combine. I have it on good authority that the CFL has adopted a relegation system similar to the ones seen in European soccer. Regina and Toronto will be relegated to the CIS for next year, and will be replaced by Laval and the University of Saskatchewan. Apparently, the CFL governors were unanimous in there support of keeping the competitive level of the league at it's highest. Welcome Huskies and Rouge et Or!!!
-
They can be separate things for sure, but this clearly a case of mamby pamby PC agenda looking to take contact out of the sport of football.
-
Not arguably, ....definitely. The NFL has a rule against hitting prone people. The CFL has no such rule. By the letter of the rule that Loffler was flagged for, he did not commit the infraction.
-
I weep for our sport. When did playing and watching football start requiring panties. This PC nonsense has to stop. It's a violent collision sport. Plain and simple. If you don't like it you shouldn't be watching or playing it instead of trying to turn it into some mamby pamby sport. I have been around football for a long time, and I am willing to make a pretty strong educated guess that every football player who saw that hit on the replays, even Arcenaux's team mates subconsciously, went "Whhooooaaaa.....NICE HIT!!"

Would we have any interest in Franklin?
GCn20 replied to Taynted_Fayth's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
What really hurts is that we were the first team to work Franklin out and we declined to offer him a contract afterwards. Edmonton was his third kick at the cat in the CFL. -

People are still talking about him as a FA, because there is a large contingent of Rider fans who seem to think he is the saviour of their crap hole team. One blowhard mororn who claims to have "connections" (but has been wrong about virtually everything the last year or so) is stating these mythical sources have told him Franklin is scheduled to be a FA. -
And O'Shea. Kudos to Dickenson but it isn't tough to take a 14 win club and turn them into a 15 win club.

I see no facts other than some carefully and cherry picked stats. If your argument that Lapo and Bellfools systems are the same because they share some common philosophies then you may as well say every OC in this league runs the same system. However, a quick look beyond that will show that Lapo and MB run drastically different playbooks and schemes within their philosophies. Right from how the QB goes through progressions, route tree options and routes for receivers and the utilization of progressions, how they attack the field, to the depth of the pocket, timing of plays and variance in pass protection are literally night and day different.

It shouldn't be long before Rider Stronson starts up with his fake sources suggesting that there was a conspiracy against Roosevelt. That guy is a serious boot licker wannabe. Makes up garbage and then uses his title of moderator to intimidate or eliminate anyone that dares challenge his accuracy. So sad that CRF doesn't see this yet.
-
Seriously though, watch Riderfans in about an hour when they finally do the Rider math and figure out Roosevelt wasn't selected. It will be a meltdown. They are just a little slower on the uptake so it takes a little while.
-
How can the Riders not have one rep on the All Star team? I have heard that they have the most explosive receiving corps in the league, to go along with the league's best QB, LBing corps and a secondary that is playing at an all star level since Labor Day? Obviously this is JO's fault.
-
Just when I thought you might be making a case for your argument, you go and say something like that and totally discredit it. There is very little that is similar between Lapo's and Bellfool's approach to the passing game. Polar opposites really.
-
Why not? We are a ball hawking defence and Jennings is a turnover machine. I like our chances.
