  1. Really? Well I stand corrected then? Guess his flame outs with the Riders and Shmoes has left me jaded on him. I retract him as an example.
  2. I know he won one with the Riders in '07, but that's the only one I'm aware of. At any rate, he has been run out of two different towns and had his third team fold on his watch. Made some of the most roundly criticized trades of all time, and is now relegated back to bird dog again. Might have taken longer for him to pronounce his failure, but ultimately he failed as a GM. I say this because he no longer is a GM and is back to bird dogging after short stints in each and every stop he made.
  3. Great, please provide a list of candidates you would endorse for our next hiring process so that we can make you put your money where your mouth is. In short, I don't believe a word you are saying right now. Have been around these forums for a long, long time and I have never seen a positive post from you. I can't imagine a circumstance where you would begin. I do agree with you about Berry though. That was a lousy decision.
  4. Murphy isn't without his wrinkles either. He has a reputation of being very difficult to work with/for that has rubbed people the wrong way. He has interviewed for several GM openings in the past few years and in just about all of them the scuttlebutt was that he was perceived to be to big a gamble for this reason. Further to this, knowing how to recruit players and how to build a team are two entirely different skill sets. Mack is proof of that. In fact, the laundry list of top notch bird dogs failing or being mediocre as GMs is long and illustrious. The names Roy Shivers and Eric Tillman immediately spring to mind. Other names like Marcel Desjardins and Brendan Taman had years of failure once being promoted to GM before they learned their craft. John Murphy is a gamble no matter how you cut it. He could be a great one or he could end up a dud. I am surprised that TBurg is pumping his tires since his main objection to our current regime is their inexperience.
  5. TBurg, you say you would endorse a Huf or Murphy/Murphy's choice HC...yet all I can envision after about a month are posts berating the Bombers for hiring someone old and declining (Hufnagel) or too inexperienced and their lousy choice of HC (Murphy). I don't realistically believe there is a candidate that exists that would keep you from dumping on the Bombers.
  6. Can anyone else verify Tracker's assertion that Lawless stated categorically that Lapolice will be OC. I listened to H&L and couldn't find it. Not saying it's not true but I would like to know what he said with a little more detail than what was given. Exact wording or a link would be nice. Not calling you a liar Tracker but I can find no proof of this anywhere.
  7. Definitely time to rethink keeping Walters around. Not for the reason you listed though. Murphy has always been available to any team willing to make him a GM. Nothing has changed as to Murphy's availability. BTW, Hufnagel has been GM of the Stamps since he took over from Barker many moons ago. He's not moving upstairs, he's just opting to stay there.
  8. I don't see any problem with attending a football game and socializing at the same time. Can be done you know. Our new stadium has a nice set up allowing people to still be able to catch the on-field action and socialize at the Rum Hut etc. A play takes 5 seconds and then there is almost a minute between for the next one. Socialize and watch football at the same time. Not really a problem.
  9. In 2011 we sold out just about every home game and we weren't even that great a team. Put a winner on the field and we won't even be discussing attendance as a potential issue. Not sure where people are so concerned. This past few years might have been the worst stretch of football in Winnipeg since Jeff Reinbold was in town and we still had good attendance. Sheesh...the doomsayers are out in full force.
  10. Yea...no kidding. Wes Welker deserves all the chances in the world in the NFL because he was one of the best receivers in the NFL at one point. Matthews...not so much.
  11. I have been informed that there was a small window of time last year when Matthews had been cut and was fielding CFL offers before re-signing with the Seahawks. Not sure I believe that he was close to coming back to the CFL though.
  12. Other teams will be in on Matthews but that Ottawa report is a complete fabrication by Baines. For only 3 days was Matthews a FA in the CFL while the Ottawa franchise was in existence and it had been widely reported that he had NFL interest before FA began.. Would Mr.Baines have us believe that imbetween us , and him signing in the NFL, that the RedBlacks nearly wooed him away from the NFL....LOL.
  13. Also, Toronto has been a dumpster fire behind the scenes for the past couple of years and it could very well be that he is tired of it. Heck, there are even strong rumors circulating that Barker applied for the GM job in Saskatchewan. Wants out. Milanovich was on the verge of leaving last offseason. Wouldn't surprise me at all to see Brady in Winnipeg next year.
  14. There's no use asking him these questions. He will just play silly bugger with you and move the goal posts at his convenience. We could go 18-0 next year and win the Grey Cup and he will be griping about something. It's just who he is as a poster.
  15. I think you completely missed the point of the thread. The question was what would our record have been if Willy hadn't been injured. I think it is fairly safe to assume that the OP meant if he had stayed healthy all season. Sure things might have played out like you say, but that wasn't the question really. Our record if we can keep Willy upright and healthy....10-8.
  16. Rock is dead as we know it. That doesn't mean that it doesn't exist. However, if you gotta go all computer geek just to find it then rock is truly dead as we know it. There used to be a day when basically any pub or bar on a Friday night and multiple other venues had live entertainment. Didn't matter where you went. Bands made more money in the 80's then they do now and played more often. I have been involved in the hospitality industry since the mid 80's and I can tell you with certainty that there is no such thing as a professional band anymore. Guys play for beer money now. I can get a band for $400 a night because they are begging for work. In my experience, it had nothing to do with their buddies not showing up. Anytime I had a live band it was a well attended event. However, I can subscribe to a music service now and pump music through my house PA by hiring a young DJ for $10 an hour and get the same amount of people out. From a business perspective bands became akin to throwing money away. I still run live bands regularly, because I think my customers prefer it. I don't do it all the time though because it effects profitability. I do know of many hoteliers who just don't care about the medium. They believe bands are too high maintenance and cost for what it's worth and prefer to go dark and maximize profits vs. generating them. An approach that I can't say is wrong as both can result in healthy bottom lines. If customers were to stop coming out for the canned music that would change. People are happy having music services playing top 40 dance tracks because they simply don't know any better and don't realize this is one big cheap out by the bar they are going too. Stop going to these venues or start demanding more for your $5 cover charge and things might come full circle again. We complain that rock is dead as we know it.....we are the ones that killed it.
  17. Willy had us at 3-3 when our defence was still figuring things out early in the season. If he had remained healthy....and that's a big if....and he got to play when our defence had finally found it's legs this season would be entirely different. We would be a playoff team for sure. That's why not signing Kevin Glenn this offseason was a big mistake imo. Had he been able to take over right at the time Willy got injured we may not have seen the black hole that was Marve/Brohm and even some of the stinkers that Nichols put up. Unfortunately, for us, our management hasn't valued backup QBing for quite some time. Instead using our backup spot on development players in order to prove they can develop one of their own. To answer the question, I can think of 4 games that Willy would have easily made the difference in. That's 9-9 right there, and possibly even 10-8. What could've been if our GM had done it right.
  18. I blame CD's, DJ companies, and the hospitality industry. They took away all the live venues from the bands. When any clown could suddenly become a DJ and spin digital quality tracks it was a death blow to many, many bands ability to simply rock and learn how to bond with their audience early in their musical careers. The bands were able to eliminate the "cheese" from their music through automatic fan feedback. Now bands are pumping out what they think is rock....but doesn't survive the rock quality test from fans. Largely because the bands never had an opportunity for feedback from anyone other than a record producer looking to make a dollar through a tightly constructed tunnel vision of what they think music needs to be in order to profit. Nickelback sold records? Let's make a hundred more just like them. No more concept albums...no more genius arrangements like Stairway to Heaven...too hard to get radio airplay for them.
  19. "My my, hey hey, Rock and roll is here to stay" Rock and roll will never die so long as there are weekend warrior musicians playing for beer money in a seedy bar doing cover versions of classic rock out of a crappy PA.....and absolutely ROCKING the place. The heart of rock and roll is still alive at the grass roots....it just hasn't survived at the top levels.
  20. Rock died sometime in the late 80's and early 90's. There were a few grunge bands that managed to keep rock and roll alive somewhat...but sadly they too were overtaken by the autotuned/computer super-produced music we have had ever since. Why do 50000 people show up for an AC/DC concert? Because even though there music is as old as the hills they have the actual musical ability to play a live show successfully. Unfortunately, not many bands do anymore without lip-synching and computer generated autocorrection of their musical misteps.
  21. Who says it's gotta be rock and roll? Nobody, I guess this is my own personal bias. I just find it annoying that they classify themselves as a rock act when it's not even close to rock n roll. Tweeny music. Is their any actual fans of "fall out boy" if someone can name 3 songs by this band without Google search I'll be impressed The half time show isn't for the people in the stadium. The last thing they want is people glued to their seats at half time. The half time show is for TV and that makes Fall Out Boy a perfect choice for their broadcast. I could get into a longwinded explanation about how bands like this or Justin Bieber etc. sell mega amounts of advertising because of the viewers they attract...but I will assume we all know that.
  22. Pretty tame pending FA list. I like it. Not a ton of money to spend on retaining guys. Should open up some dollars for another FA splurge. Hopefully, Walters does it better this time.
  23. Could have been a lot worse than Fall Out Boy....they are actually pretty decent.
  24. We, as a fanbase have a right to wish injury on other qbs? I don't want to see any qbs go down. No, you're wrong as we need better players to win. When Reilly went down it didn't stop them. Other Eskimo qbs stepped up in his absence. They're now 13-4... What hot garbage did we have for qbs when Willy went down, Brohm & Marve? They both stunk & were useless. That's on our coaching staff & our GM who didn't bring in anyone to push those guys. We traded for Nicholls out of desperation. Great way to build a team... What on god's green earth are you rambling about? You're calling me wrong for something I never said. I never once said our problems are because Willy went down...although it was a contributing factor. All I said is if any fan base has a right to piss and moan about dirty hits to their QBs it's Bomber fans. I stand by that statement 100%. Maybe learn to read....or not read into...people's posts before going all nuthouse on them in response. Jesus....I'm not wishing injury on any QB in the league, but if it happens because one of our players did it accidentally because he was putting in his full effort...so be it. I will not lose a moment's sleep over it or an ounce of respect for that player. If that bothers you, go play flag football with your friends in Cowtown and sip Mojitos on Kensington with them afterwards.
  25. If a head coach is so bad at choosing subordinate coaches that the boss of his boss has to pick them, then there is no way he ought to be head coach. The more likely scenario is that MOS wanted K.Jones and knew that Miller had an in with him. That would be too easy and likely a scenario for this forum though....
