The players didn't show up...by their own admission...for the game. That is most definitely on them. It's gut check time in that dressing room. The leaders need to lead, and everyone needs to show up looking a lot less like they spent the night before in a Montreal strip club.

Calgary > Winnipeg. Not gonna happen. Normally I would agree, however, there are rumblings in Calgary about a rift between Huffer and ownership.

I sure hope that if Walters is going to leave that another team has jumped on the grenade that is Taman beforehand. If not, good gravy, he might come back here.

It's time for the Riders to start sucking ...
GCn20 replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
What an awful, awful Rider team. Just an atrocious defence. It makes me grin from ear to ear just to watch the incompetence they are displaying. Gotta march the field with 40 seconds left in the game...no problem against the Riders. -
I watched practice with Drew on the Thursday before the Banjo Bowl from the press box and he told me at that time that he was about 3 weeks away from returning. Told me his knee is healing well. I asked him what the chances were that he returns this season...he said 100% and it'll be sooner rather than later.

Let's put it this way, the fact that Nichols is a capable backup QB and that Henoc is a star MLBer means that the choice would never be between them. The Bombers would cut any of, or a combination of, Moore, Denmark, Cotton, Turner, Anderson, Hurl, Randle, Leggett, etc. before they would even consider turfing their backup. I am not sure what you think Nichols is making but he is a career backup, he might be marginally more expensive than Brohm. Why would you ever go into your QB corps to save money? Or use it as an excuse to not sign a star NI? Both are absolute roster priorities. Everyone else is expendable to make it happen. Cripes, thats pre-beginner roster management 101 stuff there.
-
No it's really not. You are trying to suggest that each position on the field is weighted equally. They are not. QB is not a position that ever receives cuts due to SMS unless you have an aging QB that is not earning his money. Nobody skimps on their QB corps, nobody, If the Bombers were in a cash crunch to get Henoc there are about a dozen non QB imports that would be more likely to get their walking papers.

Quoted for truth. That’s your opinion and you’re certainly entitled to it. Not sure why this question bothers you so much…it’s a legit question that a GM could need to consider/manage. It's a legit dumb question because Nichols ain't getting paid like a starter and even if he was I got a lot of other areas I can cut salary in to fit both in. Picard cut alone saves a huge amount of money. Like I said, you are entitled to your opinion Absolutely. This place is like Animal Farm. Everyone is equal but some think they are more equal than others. This is completely untrue. There is a big discrepancy between many posters. This particular question is dumb for a number of reasons that have been pointed out by me and others. I wouldn't call it dumb...poorly thought out, or unrealistic are probably more appropriate. In what world does a team sign a MLBer and cut a QB to offset it? Doesn't make too much sense in reality. However, this thread does offer some discussion points. Can we fit Henoc into our current SMS long term or are their SMS issues that need to be cleared up? Extremely and highly unlikely any of these legit questions have anything at all to do with Nichols though. Read the initial question on page 1...it's not poorly thought out. It was asked exactly as was the intent: "If you were a GM...". It's poorly thought out because there would be no GM in the free world faced with this dilemma. There are your QBs, your NIs, that must be protected then every other 30 or so imports would be targets for release before this would ever happen. It's not a plausible situation. The Bombers have at least a dozen people they would release or trade that would provide the SMS savings needed before this situation would ever occur. In what world would a football team have to sacrifice it's backup QB to sign a star NI. NO WORLD, thus it's poorly thought out because although hypothetical it is not a question any GM would ever have to answer. It's like asking, " If you could only have one, would you choose a GM or a HC?" The answer that everyone not willing to partake in farfetched hypotheticals is trying to tell you is that they would sign both and make cuts to the SMS elsewhere.

Extremely and highly unlikely any of these legit questions have anything at all to do with Nichols though. I will concede that the use of him as a choice was not very intelligent. Especially when you have Hurl who plays the same position and makes roughly the same amount of money being the overwhelmingly most likely candidate to be traded or released in the offseason should we sign Henoc. I can also think of 5-6 moves that would make far more sense before even contemplating the future of my QB corps. You spend what you need to spend on QBs and NIs, and then you fill in the rest of the SMS.

Kid's got a cannon of an arm, and accurate. Quick release too. Good prospect.

GCn20 replied to IC Khari's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Yep...there's also a very real possibility that we get him. However, I agree with your point. As much as I would love the return of Henoc and hope the Bombers make him an offer he can't refuse, I am not terribly worried if we don't get him. Henoc, Brett Jones, Ben Heenan, upcoming FA splurge again....whatever. As long as we are spending every dollar to field the best team possible and pursuing high quality players when the opportunity arises I am happy. We will land some of them. Hopefully Henoc is one...if not, let's turn the page and get another great player or two with that money. -
When Incompetence Isn't Fired, Teamwork Is Destroyed
GCn20 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Obviously you have never been employed by government. Starts from the top down. Frankly we ask for it by electing clowns who install their own clown shows into the civil service. Patronage hirings and appointments to senior level management and the ineptitude runs down hill. The only people who have a hot clue about what is going on in the civil service and should be the management, are most often not politically connected enough to advance their careers. Sad state of affairs. -
Oh I have no doubts at all that he wants to.... He wants to make his second rounds of the CFL before he retires. Calling it the Retirement tour I heard. Being sponsored by Tim Horton's.

Marcel Bellefeuille - When does he get axed
GCn20 replied to Brandon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Ding...ding...ding....we have a winner. Not going to defend Bellefeuille totally but a large part of our total ineptness on offence over the past few weeks is in large part because Brohm and Marve are not or are not ready to be CFL QBs. Nichols performance on just 4 days practice in our offence proves that. -
I agree with 17to85, this is not an either or question. Not in any way shape or form. It makes no sense. If you want to ask an either or question about Muamba then it should be Henoc or Hurl? In that scenario one could make the argument the Bombers could only realistically keep one. Muamba or backup QB makes no sense.

When Incompetence Isn't Fired, Teamwork Is Destroyed
GCn20 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I agree that incompetence can do all the things you have stated. However, in my 20+ years as a business owner, I can count exactly zero times where a customer with no experience in my line of business correctly identified incompetence by a member of my staff. -
I have not read a post by anyone suggesting he is.

Walters has done quite well winning auctions for Bryant, Westerman and Waggoner hopefully his luck continues with Henoc and or Wild. Walters had done quite poorly losing auctions for Collaros, Burris, Lemon, and SVR. Just saying...it's not like he's got the magic touch or something. He loses as many auctions as he wins. We NEED this one. An addition like Henoc would invigorate our organization right now. It's a watershed moment for Walters. You do realize that no GM, especially in these days of salary cap, wins every or even most auctions, right. You offer what you feel you can giving the need, the current roster cost and contingencies and then see if someone else offers more. Then there's the point of some players simply wanting to play in a certain town or for a certain coach etc. To suggest that Walters should have signed every free agent he had his eye on is setting a unreasonably high bar. And I'm not saying that Walters doesn't deserve criticism, because he does, but this might not be the best issue to use. Who was criticizing? There is a difference between pointing out the realities of FA and criticism. I feel Walters has done a great job in FA.

My point was to the poster who was suggesting that Walters wins most of the auctions for players that he enters a bid for. One poster decided to list players he has gotten, I wanted to make the point that there were many others we bid for that we didn't get. At the end of the day, we will bid strongly for Henoc. Hopefully, the highest bid and make him choose someone else for reasons other than cash if he opts not to come here.

Say what you want about MOS as a HC, but we just upgraded our ST coordinator significantly.
-
Did Wally find out about this on CapGeek?
-
MB sucks...but it's hard to blame him for having to gameplan around Brohm as his starter. There isn't a coordinator in the CFL past or present that was going to be able to do anything of value with him, By the same token those Special Teams units that just got their coach fired employ a lot of Kyle Walter's supposed improved Canadian depth. I mean it's hard to believe that Nic Demski and AJ Jefferson running straight forward for punt return touchdowns were the result of being out schemed. Seems more likely we just got out physicalled. The availability to run straight ahead is indeed a scheme problem. On Demski's run, there was a gap vacated. It was a brain fart on the part of the player, and these brain farts have been happening far too often. If a returner gets the edge that's more of a personnel problem. A PR should never go straight up the middle.

They do that. However, only about 10% of salaries have media reports as to the value and an even lower amount are accurate. The rest they just allow fans to guess at, which is ok, if you don't call it sourced. The big problem I have with CapGeek isn't their numbers being out to lunch on 90% of the league, it's the fact that they try to back it up by saying it's sourced, when for the most part it's guys like you and me emailing them and throwing darts at a board with a biindfold on.
-
Are you suggesting that Wally Buono uses CFL CapGeek to keep track of other teams' spending. LMAO I think that he was suggesting that every time he gets together with Wally for coffee, that they go over the capgeek numbers and discuss them in depth. Jeebus, I've heard some whoppers on here in my time, but using Wally Buono as a source to backup the credibility of a KNOWN source of false information takes the cake. An all time low.
