Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
GCn20 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I land somewhere in the middle of Dr.CFL and Jaxon on this. I like the territorial exemption in principle. I do believe that teams like BC or the Riders that have a much larger pool of talent to choose from have an advantage. I would like to see the territorial exemption kept but with the caveat that if another team is interested in someone that falls into your protection area you must sign them within a certain timeframe or lose the territorial exemption on that player. I think this would still keep the CFL quite invested in junior football and open up an avenue for even more junior players to get invited to TCs. I think that junior football has really started taking off since the CFL started to work hand in hand with them. It would be a shame to lose that momentum. -
Kelly had the Maggie the Monkey approach to drafting. They now use his "draft wheel" as a gambling fundraiser at Bomber alumni dinners.

I'd like to see Dumas back as well but if he didn't come back he would not be tough to replace.
-
These are the guys I'd like to see back next year. The rest, I could take them or leave them.

Some will undoubtedly not be offered a contract at all.

Popp simply had some room on his PR and thought he'd take a flyer on Norris. Doubt he figures into any Montreal plans in the present or future.

Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?

I have heard that Goodrich is secretly a Rider fan and secretly wants to go there instead of the Bombers. Take it with a grain of salt though....my source was Migs. lol -
Starting 3 Canadian receivers next season?
GCn20 replied to gbill2004's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
So very early to begin talking about how our NI roster will shape up next year. I am sure that MOS and the staff have had the discussion out of due diligence but without knowing who's staying, going, or will be signed/drafted this discussion is really just flapping your gums at this point. There are so many variables that can play out still. An example is what if we lose Sears to the NFL? I would bet that we would start Newman and Leggett at Safety and SAM thus creating a 2nd legit NI on D. Heck, Bilikudi and Mulumba could be signed and we have 3 or 4 quality NI starters on D. If this is the case, we would be kinda stupid to go with 3 NI receivers. There are so many what ifs that can be rolled out right now that any suggestion that our coaches have any concrete roster plan for next year would kinda be stupid and inflexible. Too many dominoes still to fall. -

We would need an impact receiver brought in. Doubt it`s Demski because our needs are obvious at OL. The trio of JFG, Watson, and Kohlert would not scare me if I were the opposition. Not sure the Bombers could pull this off, so I doubt we see it happen. -
Which Bomber Free Agents will seek greener grass?

I think it's pretty doubtful that Wild garners any CFL interest. Similar body style to Sherritt and he didn't get a sniff. I hope we retain Wild....I especially hope we play him at WIL instead of MIKE. Sears, I don't believe has the body of work to garner significant NFL interest. There might be a team or two willing to work him out of even bring him in as TCF but I don't see him having a legit shot of actually making a roster or PR. I think there is about a 50/50 shot that we re-sign him. Brohm....I think he's a good QB who teams will shy away from signing because of season ending injuries in consecutive years. I think he'll be back. Bucknor....hard to say. Played well for us, hope he's back, but he'll be more expensive than when he came to us. I am sure our management will pick and choose from the rest and I will have no problems with any of them staying or leaving. -
Interesting...sure. Just as interesting as any opinions on this forum though. A lot of opinion...some fact based...some not so much. Nice to get a good idea of who is coming up for FA though so thanks to the blogger for that. Anyone know whose blog that is? Writing and opinion seem familiar.

Under the new CBA the minimum is one year. The new CBA wasn't signed until well into TC. I doubt that any of our starters are under one year deals.

common sense says that if you can get pressure sacks will follow. I don't think you'd see too many people who get a sack every time they get pressure, but if you can consistently generate pressure you will consistently be getting sacks. We can look at the Bombers this season, early in the year they were better at getting pressure on the qb and their sack numbers were in the top part of the league sack race, but that ability to generate pressure lessened as the year went on and now the team is near the bottom of the sack race. One leads to the other. I agree completely with your post and would add the following for consideration. I blame our LB corps for our lack of sacks.....hear me out....lol. I think that early in the season that Etch was scheming to get a lot more of a pressure attack on QBs and it was working. However, about a third of the way through the season teams figured out that our LB crew was weak against the run and began attacking us with the run game with great success. I think that in order to try and shore up the run defence that Etch stopped running some of the pure pass rush schemes we were initially using. In the last game, I noticed a return of some of these schemes when we were using Sears to great effect in the pass rush. I think that if we go with a revamped LB crew next year with Wild at WIL/Sears at SAM/ and ??? at MIKE then we will see a return of some of our ability to get consistent pressure/sacks on the QB.

Exactly. What on earth could he possibly gain by doing it publically....a lesson that Mike Kelly thoroughly taught to all new coaches.

If this was a team referendum then I would rank Willy pretty low...but it's not. I think he has had a good season on a bad team. I rate his season ahead of Burris, Crompton, Durant, Collaros and Glenn. I think Willy would have made any of these teams better than they were this year.
-
I really think what it comes down to is that a lot of fans want to see the coaches and players as angry as they themselves are after losses. I think you're right and I think a lot of fans make assumptions about MOS having zero knowledge about him. A guy doesn't need to spit, swear, and have a tirade to be pissed off. If he goes on a tirade it just becomes media fodder and a distraction for him and the team.

World is crashing around me? Cripes man it's just football.I'm curious why you think this is the start of a collapse in Riderville? We lost our marquee QB to injury. It happens. How did Edm do without Reilly this season? To proclaim a collapse of a franchise because of an injury is beyond goofy. This has nothing to do with your QB. If you think that you are a QB away from a Grey Cup you are delusional. Your team took a huge leap backwards in terms of skill level and competitiveness this season. Over the past few weeks this has been thoroughly exposed. Teams have figured out how to beat the Rider defence and that was the teams saving grace this season. Durant, no Durant, it doesn't matter....the Riders will get creamed by Edmonton in the playoffs. So, in summary, do I think the Riders took a huge step backwards this year? YES....I think that even most Rider fans would agree with that statement. In fact, they have Do I think that they will continue to get worse before they get better? YES. That is Taman's M.O. and he is sticking to script thus far. In Winnipeg we have been shown this same movie on several occasions and not to be a spoiler...it doesn't end well. Even though it's still got to be considered and extreme longshot, all the return of Durant in time for the playoffs would do is raise the Riders chances of winning a playoff game from non-existent to improbable.
-
I'm kinda glad he's back in a way. Gives us a chance to put boot to ass a little more before he skulks away permanently in a couple weeks when Durant doesn't start the last game. I didn't think he would have the class to be a man of his conviction anyway.

I don't care if we have a 100 office staff and 60 of them are masseuses for the team...as long as we can afford to pay for them and they help produce Grey Cups.

A troll being banned is a good day on a fan forum. A GREAT day is when a troll leaves on his own because the membership beat him to a pulp. Congrats fellow MBB members!!

Migs is leaving because he just had that AHA moment where he realized that all he was hearing was Rider koolaid and not the whole truth. His world is crashing in around him as he realizes that not all he has heard was fact based. Also, he is likely struggling as he is slowly coming to the realization that the Riders Grey Cup chances are largely beyond their own control. They are simply not a good enough team to play their best and win the game. They need to play their best and pray the other team simultaneously craps the bed to have any realistic chance. It's a crappy feeling that he does not feel like discussing. Can't blame him for that really. Bomber fans know all about it. However, since he acted like a total troll while he was here I wish him a lot more of this soul crushing emptiness. I have a feeling this is just the start of the collapse in Riderville.

People should try to remember that a 2nd round pick last year is almost the equal to a 4th rounder this year because of what the redshirt rule did to the draft last year. That makes the trade a virtual Hall for Neufeld straight up and that's a win for us.

Pretty easy to look through the fence in the NE corner of stadium. So you are confirming that you looked through a corner of the stadium? Did you do that? When I was younger, I used to go visit a cousin in Regina in the summer and he lived close to Taylor Field. (Everything in Regina is close to Taylor Field) and we used to sneak over to the stadium and peer through the fence while the team practices. Know what we saw? Nothing but the occasional glimpse of a player. From that vantage point you can literally see nothing. I call BS on Migs latest pipe dream here. The whole looking through the fence thing is just a giant backpedal because he got caught in an outright lie because he forgot practices are closed.

On numerous occasions Cotton ran straight into narrow creases, and then through them, for a positive gain. Grigsby would have stopped dead in his tracks because he simply wasn't able to break tackles and doesn't have the vision to see where the crease might be unless it was a gaping hole. Grigsby was not a very good running back.
