  1. Agreed. I'm willing to give Veltung more time at receiver before passing judgement but he seems to be more suited to a DI role at PR/KR. This will make two years of swings and misses at receiver recruitment. That's not good. Jhomo Gordon says hello - he's an incredibly impressive prospect for his age. So was Terrence Jeffers Harris. I'm not saying it's a definitive miss for this year, just saying it could be. I like Gordon's upside, but he is no shoe-in for recruitment success yet.
  2. They don't necessarily need to know for certain that Davis is better than Portis. Sometimes you just need to know that Portis is definitely not good enough. Therefore, you pick up a guy that showed really well for another team in pre-season and see what he's got. If he's not good enough you keep moving on to the next guy.

  4. Glad we cut ties with Portis. After a few years in the CFL he obviously didn't have the right stuff. Liked Davis in the limited sample size, certainly puts pressure on Marve to either re-up or be pushed out. Lattanzio was no real surprise, and Unamba only semi surprises me. He didn't have a real strong showing in camp. Thought they might give him a chance based on last year, but I'm kinda glad we have found better.
  5. Yea. A few years ago they developed this thing called the Practice Roster just for that purpose. Last year they increased the number of players you can place on it. A QB or two seems like a pretty good idea for this newfangled practice roster thingy.
  6. I assume that you must have caught him in the buffet line. Nope, I got to the game early and while he was walking around on the field to his private box he noticed my Bomber jersey and came over to say hi. We chatted for a while. He's really good with the fans. An acquaintance of mine is wondering if you could use your new found friendship with Wade Miller to inquire as to whether the hot chocolate will be the just right temperature this year. He would do so himself, but it seems his e-mails are now being regarded as spam by the Bombers front office. He would also like to make several roster and coaching recommendations, if you would be so kind to pass them on.
  7. I don't wish for long term, or in this case potential career ending injury to any CFL opposition player. However, I do wish short term, game ending injuries to each and every opposition team member we play against. That may not sound classy.....and I don't care. Sucks that Durant is out for the year, I feel sorry for him and his family. I do not, however, have an ounce of sympathy for the Riders or their fans. I say tough **** to them.
  8. I like what JFG brings to our team, but he is a fringe NI receiver. I hope he takes the next step forward this year.
  9. I know a lot of people and fans feel that Yantz is a lot better than he actually is. He is a CIS QB. He is simply not good enough for the CFL. Sad, but true.
  10. Let's call a spade a spade. Yantz wouldn't have even been in camp if he wasn't a non-counter. He got a chance to attend a CFL TC and had to have known he was an extreme longshot. He would have had to have been exceptional. He was a camp arm until he proved otherwise. He didn't prove otherwise. Shame on the Bombers for concentrating on the QBs that actually had a legit shot at making the team.
  11. None of them are ridiculous and will be costly. I agree that there is likely reasons behind all of these non moves. However, at the end of the day they didn't get done. Just my perspective. Yes, I blame Mack for not re-signing Labatte as well. No one said it was easy to be a GM in the CFL.
  12. Top 3 1. Westerman 2 Firing Etch 3 Picard Worst 3 1. Releasing Vega and keeping Peach 2. Failure to re-sign Hajrallahu to extension 3. Passing on or failing to sign Rene Curran
  13. It's a story because it sounds like Walters made promises that weren't kept. No not necessarily true. Walters made promises, that much I believe. Whether they were kept or not is in the eye of the beholder. The TC days I attended, it looked to me that Yantz was getting reps in the offence. I don't doubt that Yantz felt he never got a chance. That does not mean he didn't get one though. One of the hardest things for any football player to come to grips with is finding out that they are not good enough. Imo, just because Yantz says he didn't get a fair chance doesn't make it so. Sounds more like a player lashing out after he finds out that his football dream is over.
  14. From a purely roster building for on-field talent perspective Lin-J may not be the absolute best player we could have acquired. He is a capable player though. From a team building/locker room perspective is where he adds a ton of value. Everything I have read about him says he is a dressing room "glue guy" that works hard, and is very well liked in the dressing rooms he has played in. Bringing in a capable veteran that will aid in the leadership department may not show up on the stat sheet, but it is exactly the type of acquisitions that can greatly aid a young team get confidence as it learns to win. The lack of these type of roster moves, is what cost Mack his job imo. I am glad that it appears Walters gets that building a team is more than just a straight acquisition of talent. You need the intangibles as well. Lin-J may not have much gas in the tank as a player, but he brings intangibles to a young team.
  15. I must say that I am not totally convinced that Durant is 100%. His throws were soft and wobbly in the first exhibition game and that was on short to short-intermediate routes. Last year he was a dud, even before the injury. If they hadn't had a running game their offence would have been non-existent all year with both Durant and Sunseri. Now they have a pass happy coordinator. I am going to go out on a limb and say that Durant has his worst QB rating of his career this year and a win/loss record that reflects that.
  16. With his salary, probably cut. Sounds pretty stupid doesn't it? Yet I've heard the same argument made about Moore.
  17. There is a heck of a lot more that goes into the decision making on broadcasting a game than having an available channel to do so. I agree, they should show the game. Does the NBA finals being over make much of a difference to TSN? Probably not a heck of a lot.
  18. Actually, I welcome it....so long as we are winning. I don't care if O'Shea regurgitates recycled quotes from Knute Rockne every time he opens his mouth. I don't feel the need to know if a Bomber player has athlete's foot in his daily pressers. I want my coach to keep a lid on things and just show me his plan on game day when everyone else will also have the opportunity to see it, and judge it at that time.
  19. What garbage. They could have made this announcement at least 17 hours ago. You are willing to let them off the hook that easily? This was something they should have let us know about in the pre-training camp press conference and should have been published in a pre-training camp brochure along with the names of the probable first cuts in camp. This week to week indecisiveness just gets my blood boiling. Why the secrecy? It's like they're still evaluating things during TC instead of having their minds made up already.
  20. I think he was being specific to on field performance, as opposed to the total package. We all know that the sum of their parts has equalled suckage for a long time now.
  21. Totally agree. I thought both Allen and Brown played among the best at their respective positions and their respective positions had openings. Tuinei was in tough fighting with a lot of quality guys for one position.
  22. Cotton is still number one. It's his job to lose, and despite his performance last night someone needed to step up and take the job away, Cotton gave them all an opportunity to step up and give the coaches something to think about. None of them did. Anderson likely cost Randle his job though.
  23. ....or maybe he is just injured more than the Bomber care to let on right now. Which seems more likely to you? Him being injured or him signing a contract then immediately changing his mind and requesting a trade.
  24. Both were very solid. Quite impressive really.
  25. Me neither. Hopefully they put a link up to it.
