How happy are you with Walters' Draft work?
GCn20 replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
He did exactly what I thought he would in the first two picks. After that I don't know if it's good or bad. Have no idea who the guys are that we drafted. Really stoked we got Chungh, as the more and more I read about him the more and more I hoped he would be our guy. That makes the draft a win in my books. In so far as you can measure wins the day after the draft that is. -
I don't think anyone would. I would find it hard to believe that Hus would be the difference maker in any draft day trade scenario. However, wth do I know, look what Taman did today...
-
After some thought, I am quite angry with Walters right now. We could have traded Cronk and our 3rd rounder next year and gotten Watson back and the Riders 2nd rounder next year. lmao. Imagine that one for a minute. Could you imagine the bloody murder that Rider fans would be screaming after that.
-
If Hus finds NFL work and doesn't sign with the Riders maybe we can pry away Taman's 2nd rounder in 2017 for Cronk. Only half kidding.

He called a press conference to say that?

Ok....who needs OL anyway. Let's not get any and repeat the cycle of draft failure that we have been swimming in since the mid 90s.

I think that he struggled at times last season. No doubt about it. No more so than any other rookie starting QB would though. I think his development was right on pace for where we wanted and needed it to be. For the first time since after the 2007 season, I see the QB position as a low concern for the team. Willy will need to be better than last year, I think he will be. I think a lot of what went wrong for him last year was growing pains and having inferior talent around him. I, also, have faith that Brohm or Marve can step up if Willy regresses badly. Other fish to fry this offseason. Hopefully, it can get done now that the focus is removed from QB by our scouts.
-
Elaborate? Every player is being challenged for their starting spot during TC.
-
Bloodline probably gets him drafted I think. I do agree with your assessment that he doesn't necessarily deserve it, but in the 5th or 6th rounds a team may take a flyer on him due to his last name. If Jordan Reaves can get a tryout based solely on his lineage, it could work for Ralph in the draft as well.

If the Bombers truly do have Demski as their highest rated prospect, I sure hope Walters has the good sense to try and trade back later into the first round and try secure another 2nd round pick instead of taking him at 2. I truly don't see him going in the top 8 unless we select him.

I am pretty excited by some of the players that never received an NFL contract that I thought for sure would. I think the potential for the NFL raiding our first round picks through their draft and as UFAs has been pretty low. Lots of great guys still available and looking likely to be in the CFL this year. I can't see a scenario where the Bombers don't come away with 3 great prospects on draft day barring trade.
-
Pretty much every mock draft and all indicators from CFL camps like the one out of Hamilton suggest the first round will be OL dominated. Not saying a guy like Demski can't slip into a high slot but I do think that it is unlikely.
-
could see it, average at best against the run for a DT Coming off a pretty significant injury as well.
-
He hadn't signed a contract at the time of the CFL draft though. Drafted May 6th and signed with green bay on May 10th. Oh right. My mistake. I thought he had signed prior to the draft or it was well known he would There was NFL interest in Mulumba prior to the CFL draft. It was fairly well known that there was a strong possibility that Mulumba was going to Green Bay. Mack simply didn't think he would stick. He rolled the dice and lost. I still maintain that Mack was working off of inside knowledge from Dom Capers on Green Bay's interest in Mulumba. Mulumba at the end of the day beat the odds.

My surprise cut is.....Greg Peach.

Partially true. They hope to uncover a diamond in the rough, but for the most part it is a giant waste of time for the NFL teams as far as recruitment goes. Very few unsigned players ever receive contract offers from mini-camp.
-
Thanks for the heads up.

I really don't think that many of the guys at the Giants mini-camp stand much of a chance. It literally looks like they just lifted a copy of the CFL top prospects and invited them all to have a look. It appears they will have 75 players at this mini-camp consisting of undrafted free agents. Sounds to me that this is more like the open tryouts we run down south as opposed to real and true legitimate interest. The Giants may have just sent out a mass e-mail to all known undrafted free agents in hopes they will get 75 of them to come. lol

Mateas at number one I would think.

I hope this one's true. Gives Willy a chance to prove it or get cut if he's not worth the $400K.Which is, sort of... exactly what we were trying to tell you earlier. So are you now going to argue with yourself? That would be fun to watch! He's getting a bonus this year in addition to his base salary, as part of the extension. My guess is this is how the contract works: 2015: $250k base + $100k bonus (new money as part of extension 2016: $400k base 2017: $400k base Give or take 2016 & 2017 with some performance bonuses tied in there. Not sure that makes sense. $100K signing bonus is all cap hit and Walters said that the cap hit this year wouldn't be all that different. I'd guess they converted a lot of bonuses into base salary and gave him a smaller signing bonus than $100K, but it's all conjecture at this point. I thought that there was a small increase to the cap between this year and last. There is a chance we gave Willy a signing bonus of some sort and used up some of the new cap space keeping his cap hit roughly the same.

Good on SOD for not laying down and taking the heat for what was a clearly politically motivated accelerated timeline. I'm not saying SOD was blameless, however, one would have to be blind, deaf, and dumb to not see that politics had turned this project upside down from the get go. I am fairly positive that the taxpayers of Manitoba will end up paying dearly in the end, once again, for the NDPs efforts to move up a couple of poll points. Can't wait for September when this reign of terror will finally stop.

But he is more than a returner. Which is the point. He is an excellent multi dimensional player with the stats to back it up. I dont like the silliness either to to fluff him off as an average player who's being overrated is assinine. His claim to fame is returning the football. Denying that is asinine. His offensive output is average. No one was calling him an average player, just that he is no better than other great returners in this league yet he conducts himself like a prima donna. Those are straight up undeniable facts my friend. You Kitty Cat fans are sure in full on defend Banks mode right now though. Still smarting from Williams giving you the big FU, I guess. Bottom line in all of this is that Williams has proven he is a far superior overall football player to Banks, and Banks should not not be whipping anything out on the table to be measured. If that's what Banks wants to do, come on over and talk to our man Stoudermire. He better bring his crying towel though because Stoud's junk is quickly becoming the stuff of legend.

I think we'll only start one rookie linebacker. I think Unamba probably has the inside track for the sam spot and we'll see a batte between Hurl & Newman for the wil position. They aren't exactly grizzled veterans, but they've got enough experience under their belts that they should (hopefully) be ready to take on starting roles. It's definitely the biggest question mark heading into camp though. I agree that the SAM spot will likely be covered by one of our current DBs....unless, of course, someone really shines at camp.

You wouldn't even hear about breakfast if he didn't feel that he was screwed out of breakfast as well. All the guy does is whine about how much work he has to put in to cover the Bombers. Well....in a nutshell that's what he does.
