2024/2025 CFL (non-Bomber) Off-Season Thread
I am glad none of you are our HC or GM. Who by the way have forgotten more about building a sustainable winning football club than any of us will ever know. We can opine until the cows come home but the proof is in the pudding. Laughable that some guys think they know more than Walters and OShea about building a roster. Just the epitome of fan huberus. Can they make a mistake? Sure. Have their mistakes cost us much....not that I can see and don't give me the BS it cost us the last 3 Grey Cups because that is opinion not fact. A very jaded opinion driven by an agenda I might add.

When I hear guys say "it's a business" in the sports world it is almost certainly about money. Do guys get cut for diminishing returns....yep....we axed a few this year alone. However, one would have to be without an iota of team building awareness to know that you don't axe every glue guy at one time. I know Booch hates the term, but it is as real as it can be. Talent alone does not dictate roster, and only a moron of a GM and HC would build there team based solely on on-field talent. Same as a businessman must balance the culture of his workplace, so too does a football team. A happy team is a motivated team. A motivated team is a winning team. I get that from arm's length a lot of us don't understand the optics of some of our roster keeps but that is almost certainly because we don't have a good enough view. When a guy like JT is kept on the roster, there is more at play than what we see on the field. A player can have a very positive impact on a team overall and we will not know about it because the only aspect we see is on the field. If you think that professional athletes are different and that doesn't matter you are dreaming in technicolor. We have no idea what JT's impact is on morale for that team and more importantly what his absence would do to it. In a year we moved on from Bighill and Alexander at skill positions because their diminishing returns are far more weighted to on field than leadership, it is perfectly understandable that we would keep a Jake Thomas on the roster whose diminishing returns on the field are far more easily offset.

Yea....and the yellow brick road is all sunshine and lollipops. Gimme a break. Not all team mates are and glue guys. Should they be? In a perfect world.....we do not and never have lived in a perfect world.

Who says that exactly....told ad nauseum by whom? Who are these major thought leaders? I agree that business is business but I have worked in the corporate world and as a private business owner and I can tell you that continuity/team building/business culture is very much preferred over turnover. Performance must be evaluated, but it can't be done in isolation and without weighing the impact the change will create to the workplace as a whole. Glue guys are glue guys, and that impact must be weighed when assessing their performance. I have fired guys in the past that I deeply regret firing because shortly after I came to realize that I had minimized the impact they brought to the overall employee satisfaction of my business. Did I replace them with someone who performed certain aspects of the job at a higher level....yup....did it hurt morale and cause grief for me and hurt others performance...yup.

Never quite understood the fascination with 40 times. On the football field rarely are you running a 40 in a straight line. Football speed is an entirely different metric and a lot of times it is not the guy with the best 40 that has it.

GDT Bombers east vs Stumps
Garbage time also, Ford got to come off the bench and play against teams in prevent nursing double digit leads. If you can't look good in garbage time you have no business being in this league. When he has been the starter he has been anywhere from inconsistent to downright awful.

GDT Bombers east vs Stumps
He kept trying to implement an offence to suit the personnel he used to have, instead of adapting it to what was there.

It's weird how ZC's 2nd half and TD/INT ratio dramatically improved in the 2nd half of the season once his receivers began gaining chemistry with him, and his OL settled in and started protecting him. You can throw the best ball in the world but if the receiver zigs when he is supposed to zag your INT numbers are gonna go through the roof. Not saying that it explains away everything but it was a huge factor in ZC's first half. The other big factors were his protection and Buck being too stubborn to change the game plan to accommodate for rookie mistakes and the OL not gelling right away.

2025 CFL (Non-Bombers) Season
Had a good laugh reading the mouth breathers over on RIderfans declare over the past few weeks that the Bombers are due for a let down because our roster is aging out. Then one of them posts up the average age of each team and the Bombers avg is 28.3 years old and the RIders 30.3. A full two years average age older than us and by far the oldest roster in the league. Now they are declaring that experience is very important and it is the reason they will beat us. You can't teach that kind of flip flop to any fan base but the Riders, because math is just random numbers to them.

Million dollar talent with 2 cent attitude. Too bad, he has a ton of talent.

2025 CFL (Non-Bombers) Season
I'm not knocking the signing, just don't think it's a massive add. Personally I would have taken Brown before him because that guy can dominate a game in a big way. I might even have taken Fletcher over him as well because he is so versatile in both the passing and running game and is 10x the blocker that Carey is. Carey is a consistent runner whose best days are behind him, He probably won't hurt them but I doubt he brings much to the table either. Kevin Brown is the guy they should have gone after. A legit game breaker that defences have to earnestly worry about.

Carey was an excellent running back. but the Argos didn't hesitate to release him and I have to think there was a reason behind it. RB's lose the mileage and speed battle faster than any other players on the field and I have to wonder if his odometer has rolled over.

Ottawa's secondary was 100% bad last year, and this year too. Might not be personnel.

Craft Beer
I was pretty involved in the domestic beer marketing for a number of years and no indie brewery has the clout to match dollars with Inbev or Molson/Coors and if an indie gets popular enough they get bought by them. Manitoba has a market in which craft and indie brewers struggle for in house space and don't have the resources to get people tasting their product. Farmery has probably had the most success doing so and their market share is negligible. I don't disagree that our IPAs are awful here, but so are many other provinces. Our hops are kind of ****. Part of Manitobas problem was even getting a brewery going and listed by MLCC. Until 10 years ago it was extremely difficult for our breweries to even get into their stores. That has changed but our breweries are way behind.

He mostly is gone. Not sure who gave him the time of day by retweeting his insanity.

Craft Beer
I am in complete agreement. The fascination with killing beer with hops these days is ruining beer. Hops should be a background flavor not smacking you in the head with every sip. A beautiful, smooth, well rounded malted barley with a hint of hops should be the goal...but it isn't. Now it's can you taste the pine and grapefruit.....well yea actually...it's all i can taste....for days afterwards. I actually had to stop drinking IPAs because of my gout. Hops are terrible for gout and nowadays the overwhelming hoppiness of the IPAs just sets it off.

Marty York was a former Sportsnet CFL guy for many years. His epically poor track record of making up rumors and hilariously poor prognosticating eventually embarrassed Sportsnet so much that they had to let him go. Not before he completely destroyed Sportsnet CFL coverage so badly that the company had to give it up almost entirely because of York destroying all credibility. He is EASILY the worst CFL journalist of all time.

Unfortunately Eli is not one of them. I banged his drum for a long time to be starting over Kola, he just fails to seize any chances given to him.

I am kind of glad we have it this year tbh. An extra week to prep in a new offensive system for a QB that has not had a start since early last year with a couple of new receivers can't hurt.

I agree, Eli has to win the job and he clearly has not done so.

Definitely. Milligan was burned a ton in coverage all year but had a ton of interceptions from QBs throwing the ball right into his chest. He wasn't taking balls away in coverage like Ford did, he just happened to be standing in the right spot at the right time for a tip from the DL, or an errant throw.

The media was shocked because they are lazy and one of their colleagues told them Myron played well, and they jumped aboard the Myron Mitchell express. Fans surprised? Nope...we pay attention.

Sean Whyte played a significant amount of time under a head coach that would not attempt anything longer than 45 yards.
