Call it what you want … you need to move on from Collaros
GCn20 replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Brown has put up awesome numbers off the bench and in a couple starts. Why I wouldn't even consider the notion of releasing/trading Zac and letting Brown takeover comes down to this: 1. We have no idea whether Brown can handle the adversity and pressure of being the main man. Tons of QBs have fallen apart once they go from backup to starter. 2. There is no real need to do so, as Zac was still the best QB in the league last year and there is absolutely no reason to believe he couldn't be again. The safe but also best bet is to roll with Zac. Wish Brown the best and let him know that we might be calling him someday in the future. -

I don't disagree that Brown could be a very good QB. I'm just not willing to eliminate the potential that he fizzles out either. He could be the next Reilly or Zac Collaros, but for every one of those guys we also get the Arbuckle's, Evans, and Franklins. In a perfect world we keep Brown, increase his playing time and see if he sustains success. In an imperfect world he moves on, we wish him the best, and maybe he comes back to us one day in FA after Collaros rides off into the sunset. -

Not sure the unions want to own, but they will fundraise and ticket drive the crap out of that city. They could help with offering time payments on season tix etc. -

For sure. We certainly don't want some assclown getting his hands on the Shmoes just because he is the only guy in Edmonton willing to take it on. That being said, that is a pretty strong union town, I think community ownership will be something that the unions get behind and help fundraise to keep. -

I agree. 3 red zone trips for 0 points was not great for our ability to win. My counter point to that is he still led the league in just about every category and that is with his running back getting a ton of touches unlike other QBs who were making 40 pass attempts a game. I love Brown but he has 2 games under his belt. I'm not throwing my league leading 2xMOP QB away because his understudy showed well in a very small sample size. -

Not many owners are too interested in the CFL financially, they take it on as more of a philanthropic exercise. -
For sure that is frustrating. I just hope that BO either booms or busts in the NFL so that we get to see him play one way or another.
-
And Houston is better that Parker, who also busted numerous coverages. However, we have seen good games by all of them. Just not in the Grey Cup. 160k to 170k sounds about right.
-
That is a possibility, but so is Kevin Glenn/Stefan Lefors a possibility too. I think it would be wholly irresponsible to just toss out a Collaros and move onto Brown. Could be a fatal move to our competitiveness. Collaros gives us a couple more years of great QBing that is money in the bank. We don't know with certainty what Brown would give us.

Not buying it. Guys who busted coverages on the last drive were not playing out of position or moved anywhere, They were in their proper positions. They just blew it.

Don't get me wrong, Walters had no in-season CIS scouting ability and we were very hamstrung because of that but he was the guy whispering in Mack's ear regarding the 2011, 2012 drafts. Getting Goveia was massive for us, and Walters being able to scout in-season. That's when our drafts started turning around. Prior to that it was just anyone's best guess really and Walters, although he held a lot of influence over our drafting was really doing so with one hand tied behind his back.

Not true. Kyle Walters was our NAT talent scout even under Mack and Moll. Kyle took on those duties in 2011 according to the Winnipeg Free Press article about it. He was scouting for us prior to his 2012 AGM/DCT appointment but it was limited to the offseason. Walters was very happy when he took on the AGM spot because he could now take on the NAT scouting full time instead of seasonal. That was his exact sentiment in the Free Press. Found this for clarity on his role as Canadian College Draft Coordinator beginning in 2011: Blue Bombers Appoint Kyle Walters as Assistant General Manager and Director of Canadian Scouting - OurSports Central

Rose should have been on for Parker anyway. We had numerous busts in coverage throughout the game, hell there was one on the 3rd and 5 made by Parker. Rose was our guy that sorted all that out pre-snap. Benching him in favor of Parker the last few games was a little odd imo. Yep, that's how it goes when you are at the top of the pile.

I agree. Holms will be weighed on his play measurables though. His speed and ability to cut are probably NFL calibre. I could see him getting a shot down there. Totally agree. Of course, I really want BO back, but if not there are some intriguing options out there such as Mills. Mills at much cheaper probably lets us keep Schoen as well so to me it is not the end of the world if Oliveira leaves.

Haven't watched him a whole lot to be honest. Can't honestly say that I have watched the Argos much at all in the past few years. Does that make me an Argo fan?

Not me. There were some behavioral and locker room issues with Oakman in TO this year.
