1.) Last week is now 7 weeks after the injury. 2.) We have not had good returning in 7 weeks. If this happened a week or two ago I wouldn't balk at this, but nearly two months has elapsed. The return game is too important in the CFL to bang our heads against a brick wall that long. That would be the point I was trying to get across. Grant might be ready next week, or in October....however, the second he went down and we knew it was more than a minor injury that would keep him out a week, an airlift of returners should have begun.
-
Very disappointed in the news on Grant. We really need him but this was obviously a long term injury. I am super annoyed that we waited until this week to get a returner. The Bombers must have known the severity of his injury weeks ago.

Smart move to not appeal...or basic human self preservation instinct kicking into his 2 cent brain? He saw the look in Yoshi's eyes. I believe the latter because after he showed his intelligence level Sunday I am not willing to give him credit for a good decision of any kind.

Lol..true..forgot that.

This is so horribly inaccurate I am at a loss for words. You think that our guys are not feared, or that machismo and violence is a show of pride in oneself? Are you Craig Dickenson? C'mon....tell the truth. Last year a player went after another player in retaliation for a cheap shot on his team mate. He no longer plays in the CFL and the result completely derailed their entire season and made them the laughing stock of the CFL. Is that you Marino?

Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
GCn20 replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
We are 9-3 and all but two victories have come by 2 score of more margins. We are currently on pace for a 13 win season and first place finish. We have DEFINITELY been dominant in a lot of games this season. Our margins of victory average higher than the 2021 season where no one can deny we would be perceived as a dominant team. The only difference this year is that we have let a couple more games go then we normally would have in past years. That's not on talent imo. It would be very difficult to call the loss to Ottawa anything more than us checking out early, the BC loss we simply did not prepare and come in focused, and last week we did not respect the fact that the RIders were playing their Grey Cup game and we treated it as just another game. -

Mathematical equations are not the problem. Your application of them is. 5% of 0 is not greater than 100% of any small number. Your logic is completely faulty, unless you are a casino owner....then you will sell that kind of logic HARD. You keep saying that a 5% chance of a big number is better than a 100% chance of a smaller number and that somehow people are stupid for not buying into that. That's the funny part, you are pulling out your thesaurus to defend an economic belief you have that is completely without merit. There is a reason teams don't go for 2 point converts more, or gamble on third and short more often when the outcome if successful is far better than the alternative. -
Blue Bombers - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread

Yea, he could do better in roster management but I will take his win loss record over the past 5 years every day and twice on Sunday. -
Two reasons: 1. OL usually outweigh their counterparts particularly on the edges significantly and wear them down just due to the size. 2. DL have to play with speed. There is a crap load more running.
-
Manlihood in football is measured by your performance on the field. Their are no wusses playing football. No one has anything to prove. They don't have to do so. It's a violent profession by nature, and just being on that field takes a lot of cohones.

I have a rather elementary economic equation too. It's as old as time. "A bird in hand is worth two birds in the bush." Basically your logic is faulty because it doesn't factor in the very high chance that he earns nothing in the NFL this year. Also, he enormously decreases his chance of any further NFL looks the longer he goes without film. NFL scouts don't want to see 2022 film. I mean for 10 bucks I can buy a lottery ticket for 50 million dollars. By your reasoning I should spend my life savings on them because the reward of winning so vastly outweighs the cost. Problem is a little thing called odds, and Ford's odds of catching on in the NFL are minute. Would you quit your job that pays 40k, for a chance to apply for a job for 200k that will be interviewing 200 equally as able or better candidates than you and that the person hiring quite likely has a bias against your background resume? -
OL have long memories. The CFL probably did Robertson a favor by suspending him this week but they only bought him time.
-
I want them to shitkick the RIders every time they play with every fibre of my being. Exactly. Robertson's number has been taken by Stan and Yoshi. He will get pancaked for this.
-
Totally agree. You pick your shots...maybe if we were up by 30 at that time but I think the lack of retaliation is because the Bombers are extremely well coached in that regard, cognizant of the time of game and importance of not retaliating, and also very well coached to respond to stuff like this BETWEEN the whistles. I played and coached football a long time and their is dirty stuff that happens in the piles, and in the trenches literally every play. If OL were to retaliate every time one of their guys got a cheap shot their would be 5 ejections a game before the end of the 1st Q. Intelligent, well coached players know not to retaliate, not to lose their cool. That's half the battle for most of the guys in the trenches game in and game out. Composure. This isn't hockey where there is a code, and two guys can square off and duke it out for retribution. If one of our OL had retaliated and cost us the chance at the TD we would be lynching him on this forum right now because it would have been stupid.

Parker and McCrae suck as returners. PERIOD. Full stop. I don't care who brings more value being dressed. Just as an example, Charles Nelson is sitting around doing bupkus, has probably stayed in shape and has familiarity with our STs.....and is a decent returner to boot.
-
I really don't care about average when it comes to returns. I want a guy who is a legit threat to break one. Parker isn't that guy. We need Grant back, or a legit returner ASAP. Demski is better than both of Parker and McCrae combined but it would be foolish to risk him. Maybe Grant is close? I hope so...but if he goes on the 6 game again and we stand pat it would be a big mistake. Returners are not expensive.

He may not want to come back, but it's possible things like rent and food start to wear down his NFL resolve a bit. Making no money at all isn't a great way to live. -
He also just falls down after 3 yards when catching it. Neither McCrae of Parker are particularly good but for different reasons. Surely there has to be some unemployed actual returner somewhere we can bring in if Grant doesn't return soon.

I get it. If he was in the final year or his contract we would likely see him back so he could get some FA contract interest. The 85k max we can give him next year is not really all that tempting I suppose. -
Honestly, Parker does nothing for us in the return game either. If Grant is not ready to play I could care less whether it is McCrae or Parker returning. The only thing Parker does well is catch. His returns are non existent. We desperately need Grant back soon, and if not a new returner that can actually give us some returns.

We miss Mike Miller.

For every player it's different. It would all depend on the initial amount of interest I would think. Each player/agent should have a pretty good sense as to how realistic an in season pick up is for their player. Some guys unfortunately may over estimate their worth I suppose, but they will quickly become the cautionary tale of lost salary/play time that CFL GMs will point towards when picking up the phone. Unfortunately, there used to be a 10 day window that did that automatically, now some of the CFL players that really had no realistic shot but have had their tires pumped will lose out on some game cheques instead. With a guy like Ford being hamstrung to the stupid 3 year ELC that NAT rookies must sign makes this gamble a little easier as their is no possible big FA CFL contract to play towards this season. -
We put a 3rd string QB on a short field the entire game. Even a dud like Dolegala will FG you to death if all he ever needs is 15 yards to FG range....and that is exactly what happened. No defence in the world can be asked to win a game like that, therefore, offensively we needed more than 2 yards passing until late in the 2nd Q. Guys dropping balls, and Collaros missing shots where guys are open....and it was done. We get some punt/KR coverage and an O that shows up before half time and we absolutely cream these guys. Before anyone says well maybe the Sask defence was so good that they just shut our offence down...go watch that first half again....dropped balls and inaccurate throws to open receivers.

Really dumb of the CFL but I guess they gotta give the players something once in a while. It was a rule change born out of the pandemic when our league was is crisis and not knowing if their would be a season. Without giving the players a clear out of the contract we likely would not have gotten many takers for contract offers with no firm clarity on the 2021 season going forward or not.
