Blue Bombers - 2024 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
GCn20 replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Clercius still on the cheap, Dalton will take the obligatory shave because of his injury, and Lawler will likely have to take a shave as well due to production. I see absolutely no reason why we can't and wouldn't sign both guys and for a lot cheaper possible SMS hit than what we had going into this year. If I were a betting man I'd say Schoen at about 175k with minimal signing bonus but lots of games started bonus available. Lawler at about 180k...a fair deal for both sides imo. We keep both Wilson and Wheatfall and possibly go with extra IMP receiver next year. What a receiving corps that would be....Schoen, Lawler, Wilson, Wheatfall, Demski with Woli/Clercius rotating in to keep guys fresh or if ratio calls for it. -
Worst....the ABSOLUTELY WORST thing you can do to a young QB is throw him into meaningful action before he is ready. The fact we went out and immediately signed 2 QBs when Strev went down tells me that our coaching feels, at the very least, that he may not be ready yet. Anyone who knows a lick about QB development knows that you can't hurry the process. Every QB has a different time line. What is universal is that throwing them into the fire before they are ready will almost certainly ruin a QB.
-
True....but the beautiful thing about playoff football is there is always a chance of a foul weather game. That can be quite the equalizer sometimes.
-
Dolegala is actually a decent passer if he gets protection. What he isn't very good at is anything outside the pocket.
-
It's not whether he is composed or not, the difference in game speed between exhibition and regular season is night and day. I don't think so. We had our experienced 1 and 2 and then 3 where Wilson was as a development QB. That seem to be our M.O. for several years now.
-
They did bring in Dolegala as soon as Strev went down. Almost immediately really.
-
Grainger is pretty raw but yea if he can fine tune some stuff and IF he can read the game around him he could end up being a gooder.
-
The best chance to win immediately? Probably Dolegala...but it would depend on his grasp of the playbook. Wilson is a rookie with 0 games played. It's not that he doesn't have potential but winning right off the bat would be a lot to ask.

He's another cheap shot like that away from being in the XFL with Marino. -

I suppose the Bombers should update their page if they are saying differently. Lots of public record confirming what I am saying. Mack was fired after a 1-5 start and the interim tag given to assistant GM Kyle Walters at that point. -

Yep. For sure. Not meant as an indictment on Walters. Just a general statement confirming that all GMs have their share of whiffs at the draft table and that Walters is no different in that regard. -

Faith Ekakitie was a Kyle Walters miss. Kyle Walters has his own big whiff draft picks to cry about. -

Hate to see a career like Biggie's end like this, but I think him coming back would be a long shot. That's not a knock on Biggie, just the reality really. I hope he can bring his intangibles to the table for us in a different way for many years to come. It was after 6 games in 2013 he became interim GM. He then went onto a 2-10 record for the rest of the year. No. However, there was speculation to that regard. Walters never really stated anything publically. -

How do I know that? Walters stated so. He gave a very lengthy interview about why and how he hired MOS in the pre-amble to the '19 Grey Cup. If you've heard differently then it is at odds with Walters own recollection of events. I completely agree that Walters and Miller wanted to create a better and winning culture. My point is that they hired MOS to do that and gave him free rein to do so. -

Walters was named assistant GM and director of canadian scouting on December 5/2012. He took over as acting GM a few games into the 2013 season when they fired Mack. -

He was AGM in 2012 as well and was part of the management team in a coaching/scouting role prior. Front office wise he was under Joe Mack, but in 2013 he had an opportunity to begin changing the culture. He elected to hire MOS and leave it to him, as he should have. -

For sure, However, Walters was there in 2013 and we all saw what we saw. Walters undoubtedly saw the need for a culture change but it was MOS's vision of culture that he bought into as the team was devoid of culture during the previous years that Walters was there. I am not blaming Walters for that, simply stating that it was MOS tasked to revamp the culture. The culture wasn't something that MOS went along with, he was hired and tasked to bring about that change. Walters was here before 2013. His role changed in 2013 but he was already with the Bombers. -

Walters was already here when we had the circus in town. Walters bought into MOS's vision, not the other way around. Kyle Walters was a big part of our management team in some of the darkest times in our franchise. He was quite likely very open to a huge culture change, but it was MOS who was asked to do that. -

I've never had the impression that Dickie could lead a locker room but he managed to convince a pro-football GM that he could. That's what I'm alluding to. Guys can interview great and then end up being a mess after. Using Saskatchewan as an example of bad culture creeping in may be a bad example in hindsight. There culture has been broken since Reynolds first day on the job was to go out and break league rules by tampering. Kind of hard to enforce any sort of discipline on any staff member after that. -

The thing is assbags generally reveal themselves after the fact. I am pretty sure no one figured Craig Dickenson or Corey Mace would have a bunch of d-bags running their locker room....but they did. I am also pretty sure they had incredible answers as to how they would change the culture of their teams....then didn't. MOS is a true leader of men. That, more than anything else in his job title, is what makes him the best HC in the CFL. Is he perfect? Nope. Is there any other coach that I would want leading our team at this moment. Nope. I think it seriously underscores just how good of a coach he is when people suggest we can get rid of him and nothing would change. Lots would change. -

Every HC bring his own internal locker room culture with him. Maybe Walters and Miller find a HC that keeps on keeping on with FIFO....maybe they don't...but the HC sets the standard of the room. Always have always will. Sure we wouldn't have fallen off a cliff with a new HC after 2019, however, as the FIFO vets age out the culture would definitely shift to the new HC's ideals. Osh attracts guys with the right attitude. If we replace him with a guy like, (just an example) Chris Jones we most certainly would see a seismic shift in the locker room....don't care what vets stay on. -

For sure. Numerous players have come out and flat out stated that the reason they came here/reason they stayed was MOS. Guys thinking that a couple minor wonky roster moves outweighs that are not putting enough value on it imo. I believe that MOS has been here since 2014, so yes that culture was started pre-19. Yes, there would be a different culture. GUARANTEED. Might take a half season, or season, but things would almost certainly. -

What was his win/loss record? Only stat that matters. Sometimes as a QB you gotta play with the hand that's dealt to you and get your wins. That's why stats and a buck fifty won't by you a large coffee. You value them..I don't.. we will have to agree to disagree on that. -

Zac played quite well with the Riders in 2018. In '19 every game he finished he won. -
