  1. I personally am glad to see some of these mediocre talents not resigned by us. We've seen so much of that over the past few years. Guys brought back out of familiarity really.
  2. Not sure, but Walters did say that the cash for both Lawler/Schoen only opened up last minute and that it was not plan A.
  3. I'm not suggesting that Walters won't deviate just that he won't do so until something in his plan has not worked out. He will try to balance the money first. If there are still dollars left that is when Walters will go for it. He's not typically a day one guy unless we have a huge hole to fill from a superstar leaving the fold and we are targeting another star player in his stead.
  4. Last year he only blew the wad on O after a couple guys turned us down. I can't see how we wouldn't have the funds to go big or go home this offseason. Lots of space was cleared. Just a matter of finding the guys that want to be here, and that make our team better. No use letting a Lawler walk but giving the same money to Lewis. I do agree that Walters probably wants to balance out a little disparity he had going because receiver $ were off script.
  5. Collaros contract effects how much we can spend on backup more than anything else.
  6. You can argue about how you think a GM carves up his SMS pie, and I will listen to what that GM has actually explained as to how he does it. If you actually listened to Walters speak he explains very fully why we do so, and why we are not the first out of the gate on high price FAs unless we are specifically targeting them. Last year we signed Lawler/Schoen/BO but only after we had whiffed on other attempts. Walters pivots only when it is clear that salary in one area allows him to do so. It's a smart strategy, that makes sure we are not just throwing cash into the wind like the Riders do. He won't weaken one area of his club to augment another. They all have a set range so that we can have balance throughout.
  7. I think that Walters meticulously plans each offseason as well as he can. There are so many variables, moving parts, and things beyond his control that to not have multiple plans for the offseason would guarantee he would have lost his job in very short order. Are you suggesting that he take a fly by the seat of his pants approach?
  8. Not arguing that point. I don't have access to that information. All I can argue is that Garbutt being let go is not an unreasonable move. I don't see it as anything more than we let a meh player go. You want to read other things into it...have at it. I honestly believe he got passed on the DC last year by a better player and then we brought in a vet at the same position. We really didn't have room for him anymore.
  9. Just because others looked invisible too is not a reason to keep him. Garbutt was here two years, and did nothing when given an opportunity. Was it too small a window of opportunity? Maybe...but that's life in pro sports. You gotta shine when your number is eventually called. He didn't.
  10. Garbutt looked good at times but invisible a lot as well. Hopefully, our recruiters have identified someone better.
  11. Might be right about Lawler, but I doubt Logan makes a difference one way or another. He'd be fairly cheap and is likely here primarily due to his return skills. If there was a signing that signalled we might lose one of our big 2 receivers it was Mitchell. Honestly, I think that was a very under rated signing as well. He had an off year last year in the Elks offence, but is a potential 1000 yard guy in our offence. Dalton has said he feels he'll be ready for TC.
  12. We need to avoid shiny baubles and make sure our OL and DL return to being dominant again. Everything else will sort itself out if we do that. Jake Ceresna would be a great fit for our 3-4 defence
  13. I'm OK with that if it means not signing bad contracts Apparently, and if so they are nuts.
  14. Holy crap..that's insane Hervey doing it right tho. They can't fix QB right now anyway.
  15. Zac needs receivers who kno where Zac wants to go when he is off script. The guy is stellar when he's in the lineup..just hasn't happened enough to justify the dollars
  16. I am hoping Schoen will be 100 but we gotta hedge our bets I doubt that's the problem. We got the tools to make any half decent OC look good. Might be cash strapped for the position.
  17. I don't know what to make of it and just firing **** against the wall
  18. It is very odd. About the only explanation I can think of is we have our guy and for some reason can't announce it yet, or we are waiting for someone and can't make it official yet. The longer this goes the more I'm starting to think it's Lapo and we are letting him fulfill some contract obligations first?
  19. Gotta be honest, that whole team was a tire fire. Tough to know whose play suffered from others and who just sucked
  20. Yea we need Lawler but it has to be with a shave
  21. Love Lawler but think we may lose him and I understand completely if Walter's won't show him the money again. We haven't got value for his pay the last 2 years. He likely has a very similar contract to Schoen in front of him. He can choose to be here and take an incentive laden contract that will require he bets on himself or take the money and run I guess. You can't regret what was fair market rate after the fact. But I agree that there appears to have been a reset. Too bad that didn't happen a year or two earlier
  22. Vaughters is very similar DE to Jeffcoat in style of play. Not sure what he's got in the tank, but I like the move. Last year the Stamps DL was on the field a lot and got worn out imo
  23. Fine by me. If all the big name FAs go East it's the next best thing to them signing here.
  24. I don't think that any player needs to convince their GM to throw the kitchen sink at Schoen. Teams will go after him hard if he makes it to FA. Who have we struggled to retain outside of leaving to the NFL?
