CFL - 2023 Regular Season - Discussion Thread
GCn20 replied to JCon's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
People seem to think that a play book remains static throughout the year, and it most certainly does not and most definitely changes drastically year to year. Desjarlais might be able to point out some chinks in the armour at a personnel level on the OL, things he knows certain guys struggle with more, but that's about it. Pigrome is quite literally useless to his new team, in regards to play book. We have built a ton of new plays since the insertion of McCrae that Piggy wouldn't know, and existing plays are now seeing progressions built off of them. No team runs the exact same play book all year...you can't...there is too much film. -

He basically says Winnipeg, but I have friends in Saskatchewan who plied me with food and liquor so...... Desjarlais hasn't been here in two years and Piggy had a cup of coffee and couldn't figure out the SY play book. Not scared of what they may reveal. Pigrome is a physical talent, but couldn't grasp our playbook. I hope he tells them everything he knows. -
Wilcotts was traded to address a need in the secondary. I don't consider that poor roster management at all. We traded Wilcotts out and got in Darby and then added DE depth from the Riders. Hansen's injury has thrown a bit of a monkey wrench into both our DL depth, and the need to keep another Global on the PR because you have to dress two globals now so one has to be on the PR pretty much. I agree we need to be looking at more DL depth though, but that's more a Walter's failure than a roster management failure. What do we do if either of the Jeffs go down, we go scrap heaping and air lifting. There are some decent DE's that are a phone call away. Just because we don't have one currently signed doesn't prohibit that as a back up plan. That is not to say there hasn't been some head scratching moves like PRing the 36 year old kicker, just that it isn't all doom and gloom because currently we don't see the options that Walters might. We are sitting here talking roster management, and yes MOS does make some odd choices at times.....I thought that keeping McRae in when Demski returned was odd. However, the game plan soon corrected my misgivings. As for DL management, you can't put that on MOS....who should he dress?

It's not abusing the rule if it's allowed. Plain and simple.

Dirty Sanchez talking about BC is about as objective as Milt talking about the Bombers, or Suitor about the Riders.

Neufeld hasn't been very good the past 2 games. I wonder if he is nicked up. -

Jeffcoat gets into the backfield fast and forces the QB to stay in the pocket or escape up the middle and that allows our other DL to eat. Simply put there is no LT in the league capable of standing him up at the LOS. -

When all your receivers are ham and eggers the drop off to a ham and egger back up is barely noticeable. But hey, yardage between the 20's where most receivers can ALWAYS get soft coverages if you throw enough times is the yard stick they wanna use over in Rider land. Sorry, red zone receiver production, 2nd down conversions, YPC, and having a high % completion to target has always been my gold standards. Having 10 targets for 70 yards is not great receiver or QB play and that is the RIder offence in a nutshell. Spray balls around for a crap load of passing attempts, most in the 5-7 yard range and rack up completions and yardage by default then crow about how great your QB and receivers are in a game your team scored 11 points. SMH. -
Bombers vs Stamps - Friday night football

If I have a backup that's even thinking it I would cut him loose. I want a backup that wants to be the starter and gets a little POed when he sees the depth chart every week. Anything that is less green is always better, but at the end of the day it is a Rider jersey and that alone makes anything they wear god awful ugly. -

Considering how narrow each of their victories was against struggling teams I would not be impressed if I were a Rider fan. They aren't a very good club. Just a really fortunate schedule with the exception of playing us. They get an imploding Elks twice, a decimated by injury and out of synch Stamps team in the first month. -
It was the only 3 play sequence he threw well all game. Guess he was practicing those all week.

Tate once told a TSN reporter that he loved being the backup QB because he gets a game cheque and doesn't have to play and then followed that up with he really prefers not having to go into the game. -
Speak for yourself....lmao...I'm in Thompson for most of the summer so our summers are short and every day of heat is a good one. In 3 weeks fall begins up here....lmao..

Harris was working it because they had keyed in on their secondary playing that area very softly.....until they didn't because Harris went to the well too many times in a row.

It's a fall thing for me. Usually Bailey's pumpkin spice Irish cream in my coffee on a nice crisp fall Saturday morning. My doctor is not a fan because of my diabetes, but a man's gotta live.

The only thing I enjoy watching as much as the Bombers playing good football is the Riders playing bad football. I thoroughly enjoyed last night's game...even though Edmonton gave them a hold by beer we are more useless win.

Mmmm....pumpkin spice....I'll wait for October because I love having pumpkin spice anything on a nice cool fall morning watching the fog lift off the lake.

I agree. I wasn't there, but family members of mine were and they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Gotta be honest. Not many indigenous "celebrate" Canada day. Not that we don't respect the country, or love it, just that it isn't a day that was particularly great for our people. It's a day to reflect, and to remember what was lost, and what needs to be accomplished for the future of our children and grand-children. Canada Day, for us, brings hope for reconciliation and rejuvenation in the spirit of cooperation and peace. That being said, I completely agree that a Canada Day celebration in Winnipeg most definitely NEEDS to include indigenous culture and practices as a sign of reconciliation and to show respect to the original stewards of this nation.

and a heck of a crack back block too....lol -
Certainly Biggie isn't the only guy doing it, and even if he was, if it is allowed in the rulebook than go for it. However, it does create dangerous situations and I'm glad the league has decided to come down on it in any scenario. As long as the rule is applied evenly across all teams I am always in favor of player safety rules.

For sure. You get a 5 man unit with lots of time together and they will probably be better than the sum of their parts. When you have all good parts, you then get a great OL. I can see, for that reason, Dobson and Eli getting some reps in there as the season goes on to start building that bond and give our regulars a little rest. It's a nice little luxury we have. -
Exactly right. Until China, Russia, and the US decide to get serious about it, we are screwed no matter what. Not sure what we as Canadian pee-ons can do about that.

Most Canadians are being asked to make sacrifices to lifestyle in a country that is very near its carbon neutrality goal in comparison to most of the world. Look, I will not dispute that climate change is a massive world issue that very badly needs drastic changes amongst the global population but let's not lay the blame on this at the feet of Canadians and put it where it belongs. If our planet is going to change our country's role in this isn't to eliminate our emissions, although it would help, our role has to be to take our place as a leading nation on this planet and get China, Russia, USA, India, Indonesia etc to cut their carbon emissions. It is pointless for Canadians to bang their head against the wall for 1.5% of the world's emissions that have a large % reabsorbed by our vast forests and waters. It is bass ackwards for our main focus to be on stopping our own emissions, our main focus HAS to be on stopping others emissions with carbon emissions reductions being a secondary target. We, as Canadians, could make the decision to go completely carbon neutral tomorrow along with the financial and societal repercussion that would come with that kind of rapid disruption to our economy and lives and the global warming crisis would not be slowed one iota.

If someone calls him the little ball of hate I will puke. It is a pretty dirty play and I'm glad they got rid of it. You do it until you can't though, and then figure something else out. Damn family holiday Shakespeare play re-enactments....always scheduled the same time as football.
