what gay imagery? Did you think the expression "take it in the arse" was a holiday greeting in Australia? -

Wow the volume of gay imagery being tossed around in this thread is like listening to Rod Black watch a Sam Giguere highlight reel. -

Not interestingly, you feel that way.. It's a QB driven league, and they are significantly further along in that position (at least as of today). A GM and a good scout should be able to find capable if not great IMP receivers and DBs. Speaking of capability, are you able to have a discussion without your usual ad hominems? -

Interestingly, this Ottawa Redblacks team is much better than the 2013 Winnipeg Blue Bombers. -
Kyle Walters Expansion Draft Presser
NotoriousBIG replied to Jpan85's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Judge Walters in August, not December. So far so good, yes. Lets see who we get to QB and how active we are in Free Agency. As for comparisons to Berry, what Doug said was, on day one of TC: "Some of you guys are here not because you're the best, but cause you're affordable." While I get thats similar to what Walters is saying, its kind of a lame thing to say from a team building perspective. Still would take Doug to OC. -
People dislike Berry's antics on the sidelines but he was pretty successful with the team. And we have been much worse since he left with 3 different head coaches, 2 gms and various ceos. Absolutely! I liked Berry. But his explosions on the sideline were awesome. Remember when Mike Quinn threw that pick in the end zone? TSN caught PowderKeg yelling "What the F_ck was that!!"

You mean PowderKeg?

Need something really good for Khari. Kalamari is too easy and lacks any football context. Tough...
-
Gotta admit, Stumbler is a keeper. Or Stoolbler, if we have a really shitty D.
-
Thats actually really good. Nice!
-
Waaaaaah.

I'm dreading even more the butt-hurt posters saying "he's a member of the Bomber coaching staff and he deserves your respect. waaaaah." Like a guy who played pro ball for half his life starts crying when someone on a message board has a little fun with his name. Besides, Bellefool is funny. Its up there with White Zombie.

Yuuuuup!

I would be really pleased with Stubler as DC and Khari as OC. In fact, I could see KJ really shining in that role here. Stubler, however, isn't risk free. His star seems to have lost some lustre since the '07 Argos.

Our wiffle-bat budget will be second to none! Gibson was the wiffle bat guy no? Wylie was just damned good at the job. A friend (well, glorified Facebook friend LOL) played OL for Wylie for a season. Said a lot of guys on the line found him old school to the point of being ridiculous. Said after a while a lot of him teammates just tuned him out. One lowly guys opinion of course but it did surprise me to hear.

I would like to see Lapo as an OC here but I get the vibe his ego would never allow him to do that. Maybe if he was out of options. But he isn't.
-
Yeah, I was certainly reluctant to give Walters the job (and I still don't like the way the process, or lack thereof, was carried out) but I am impressed with his words and more importantly, I am impressed that the first things they did was address the front office and scouting woes. I admit I was optimistic when Mack was first hired but this does feel different.

You "caught" an Eskimos practice once & watched anywhere from 5 minutes to maybe two hours on the field. You based what you consider is his work ethic just on that. One practice for however long you were there. You never sat in on the defensive meetings. You never saw Stubler break down film. You never saw him conduct a defensive meeting with all of his players in the meeting rooms. You never saw the meetings he conducted with his defensive assistants focusing on getting ready for the next opponent. You never saw the discussions he had with the Esks head coach at the time. You never saw the preparation that he may have done in the Eskimo offices. You don't know what was happening behind the scenes nor do you know what the defense was focusing on during practice that day. But simply based on your observations of one practice his potential hire scares you? We could hire Wally Buono & there'd be fans bitching about that, too. No matter what O'Shea does, someone will always be there to say whatever he does is a mistake. Here's what I think. This is O'Shea's first gig as a head coach. He can't afford to make a mistake & screw up hiring his coaches, especially at the coordinator positions. O'Shea trusts Stubler. He already knows the kind of coach that he is. Also, being an assistant coach in the CFL with the Argos he'd know thru the coaches grapevine if Stubler has become lazy & was just mailing it in with the Lions because he's 64. If O'Shea thinks Rich Stubler is the answer than have a little faith that he knows what he's doing hiring the guy. Stubler has proven he can run a great defense. I think having him here will be a great hire by Mike O'Shea. No offense, but we (you included) all do the same thing here every day. We use limited knowledge to form grand opinions about something we know nothing about. You despised Joe Mack and are worried about Kyle Walters in the same way, but you've never spent any time with them either. No different. Personally, I never "despised" Joe Mack. I thought he was a pro, and when I found out his wife has cancer it answered a lot of questions about his detached approach to the CFL and commitment to keeping NC his home. I did, however, "despise" our record, how the team played, how the team was managed, how coaches were hired and fired, and how we were the laughing stock of the entire league. So my point is, we all base our opinions on the on-field product. And I loved that D Stubler put out in Argo land.

Yeah, I thought this was going to be a big deal. Frankly, I think the timing blows. Should have extended the deadline into the New Year.

The Cap is a joke as there are 101 ways around it. The CFL only audits what's on the books; perks in the form of cars, off season jobs, housing, even jobs for spouses are obviously not taken into account. Remember the infamous Bob Wettenhall Xmas bonuses he doled out at his annual Xmas party? Or Burris' wife's job in Calgary? However, a bigger problem that NO ONE talks about is that support staff and coaching salaries are not capped. So a franchise like SK -- which could put a green S on a 30-cent mug, charge 19.99 for it and sell out in 8 seconds -- has all this extra cash to pay for coaches. Why should one team be able to outbid for mercenary, one-year type coaches like Cortez, and still have tons of cash for extra QB coaches, WR coaches, etc. So the less successful teams that can't afford to have 5 GC winning coaches will have to make due with newbies and skeleton staffs? It looks like just a giant slush fund, something that a league as delicate as the CFL should monitor. Oh, and what about the per diems that SK coaches and players get? Its apparently double what the BB pay. Yet another slush fund. When half the teams fold and its a 4 team league maybe the CFL will wake the hell up.

Khari Jones enroute to Winnipeg according to Jim Toth
NotoriousBIG replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
No it's true. He's just outside Moosomin right now. They used to have an all-you-can-eat KFC there. My friends and I destroyed it once en route to Calgary. And for the next 8 hours, they destroyed my car's upholstery. -
I would take the chance on Khari. While Khari as HC was giving me nightmares, I could really see him flourishing in this role. Like to see him rise to glory with our team. All that said, its a young CEO, GM, HC, and OC. Lets get some grey hair doing DC already!
-
Nope. My second choice after Cortez. Take him before Khari.

Redblacks to name Rick Campbell head coach
NotoriousBIG replied to Mr. Perfect's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
he can retain his TSN gig actually. Cant see that paying that much (Cue Nate with 200-300K speculations). I would suspect the TSN thing is way less than 100Gs -
Great post. I can appreciate your logic. As for the '91 Grey Cup, that could be one of the greatest of all time -- not the game, but the whole John Candy -- Gretzky -- McNall thing, and the fact that game basically reinvigorated the ailing Grey Cup tradition. That TSN thing they did about John Candy's love for the Argos gave me a lump in my throat. Agreed about SK -- having watched the last Grey Cup from the US, I felt kind of embarrassed. It was really hokey, and you can tell the media were pasting on fake smiles while counting down the seconds before they could leave. You wanna host a national event? Become a legitimate national host city.
