Burke's been spinning the tires all season. I don't see how anyone could suggest firing Burke would be throwing him under the bus. I agree, Burke is awful, but so is the roster. Really, we do not have a .500 team with Trestman or Huffer on the sidelines.
-
The Bombers can't seriously be considering keeping Burke. Please no. Give us some hope. Nah, you can't bring both him and Walters back. They'll turf Burke, Walters will become GM and "put the focus on finding a coach that understands Bomber football better." Thats what we do around here -- throw the previous guy under the bus before the tires even start to spin. .

There is no talent -- from the GM down....

Anyone with reading comprehension would say that you clearly have a lot of faith in the Bombers hiring practices, which is peculiar considering what's transpired the last 5-7 years. But I've also known Miller for 20 years so, well, let's just say I am VERY skeptical.

I read that whole interview and what I got was that Kyle Walters will definitely be part of the org. What I didn't get was that it would definitely be as GM. He's a keeper but I'm not sure he's got it yet. I think you need to read between the lines. Why is Miller so adamant on telling ticket holders that Walters will be here next year in some capacity? Does anyone, short of Walters himself, really care if he's around as a scout or A-GM or whatever? What fans care about is the next GM, followed by the next HC and starting QB. I think this is Millers way of "pre-selling" us on Walters being here in exactly the same role he is now. Otherwise he'd just say, "yeah. Walters is our guy til the end of the year, then we will do an exhaustive search for the next GM and see what transpires." Those two are pretty tight and the boys club mentality is starting to show.
-
Look at Miller's comments in the Freep today -- the next GM will be Walters. Book it, mark it, re-new your seasons.

It's really disheartening. Usually there are a couple of really good teams, some average ones, and a couple of really bad ones (with Hamilton consistently being at or near the bottom). This year we are the worst team by a mile. QB, O-line, secondary, coaching, GM. It isn't even up for debate. I think Kent Austin is highly overrated but you put him as our HC and GM (a mistake by the way) and we would be pushing .500.

but the offense was never THIS bad. How come Burke can't get his defense playing up to that level again? Is that not part of a head coaches job? Getting coordinators in here who can get the most out of their respective areas of the team? That's why Lapo was fired after all. Mack hasn't put anything good on the field. It's well known that Creehan was Burke's buddy from their days going back to Calgary. Burke hired a friend. Not the best person available which is The Bomber Way. A defensive coordinator who was lousy last year in Hamilton. I remember how happy people here were when Burke hired him. Yeah, but Creehan has so much "fire." Who cares about how well his squads performed. He's fiery! That's what really matters.

Walters would be an awesome AGM. Hope he sticks around and continues to work the draft and learn the job. But full GM? Of this gong show team? No thanks.
-
If a qualified, experienced GM is brought in there is no way in hell they will keep Burke around except maybe to DC. How can anyone in the organization look at the current product and think "yep, were close. Just need to add a coach here, a player there, and stay the course."
-
Says the guy who still has Joe Mack posters on his bedroom ceiling. Hey, I keep a picture of Mack right above my bedside clock. I gaze into his eyes for 3 seconds and I'm instantly asleep.
-
I admire your faith. Couldn't agree with you any less -- and strongly recommend you switch to bottled water -- but admire it all the same.
-
Were I a betting man, I would say December will see Miller removing the "interim" badge off of Walters -- "After tirelessly scouring the globe in search of the next great Bomber GM, we realized we had the best candidate in Walters right under our noses all along."
-
Nah, Burke can't wear it all. Some, but not all. More like f-- you Burke, f-- you Joe Mack, f-- you Casey Creehan, and especially f-- you BOD for hiring Burke and Botch Co. Hell, while I'm at it f-- you Lyle Bauer for starting this implosion by hiring your clown shoe of a friend 5 years ago. Go Offseason Go!

Haha, case in point: 2/3 of the posts in this thread are about the Jets! I wish I could be "stoked" about the next GM hire but I'm really jaded. I bought into Mike Kelly hook line and sinker and felt a little duped they way that all went down. I then bought into Mack pretty good (despite pulling for Barker) and lasted a whole season before I started to have my doubts. I basically expect the next hire to be a convenience (or cheapskate) hire. Its sad that this is now the Bomber status quo.

This isn't the first losing season we've had. However, I can not recall a season where I felt this much apathy. Its not even like I "can't wait till it's over" -- I just don't care. And yes, I am a season ticket holder. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in that sentiment, so I'm concerned about the long-term viability of the club if they do not make really big changes in a few months. It won't take much to get true fans excited again, but many will choose to wait to see what the club does this offseason. It better include a winning GM, a hungry, sharp up and coming coach, and a legit QB.

GDT - Bombers @ Stamps - no GIF thread

It should be the new GM's decision whether Burke is retained. If a new GM -- fully vetted and qualified -- is brought in and he feels Burke is the best choice for HIS team, so be it. If Miller et al decide to "strongly recommend" to the GM Burke be retained, then this club deserves every drop of red ink it will incur. -

Nah, 78-8. We miss two field goals in the first half, so we're down 52-2 at half time. Then we get a garbage time TD in the 4th quarter to make it 78-8, but miss the point after. Then a heated debate all week that Burke shoulda went for 2. -
Why fire Burke now? So Bellyfull can ride out the year before getting purged as well by the next GM? This season is over -- everyone knows it. Were already paying Burke -- might as well let him finish the year before the next GM brings in someone good.
-
They weren't "cheering for the opposing QB." They were cheering for a really good, classy guy who loves WPG who was just traded from our gong show of a team 2 weeks ago. Its not like they were giving fricken Darian Durant a standing o.
-
Of all the massive cluster-trucks of the past 3 years, the timing of the Lapo firing was the worst.
-
If they can get Dickenson out of Calgary, I'd have Burke's office packed up while he was on the sidelines of the November 2nd game and have everything waiting by his car in the parking lot. I'd give Dickenson a blank cheque and ask him to write in whatever number it took to get him here. Awww, come on that is such a Riderfans kind of statement. After week 3 they had huge threads gushing about how they should break the bank and pay Cortez whatever the hell he wanted to stay as OC. Now they're saying he's an idiot. This team needs a GM first who can find players and hire a proper coaching staff.
-
Clean slate people. Real GM with a vision, solid HC who doesn't play the blame game. Burke can DC though. Heck, assistant HC if that keeps his ego happy.
-
DD is hurt and not improving -- Even Trader Taman wouldn't trade a legit back-up QB for a NI LB who will be a free agent in 4 months.

Bombers moving to the West next year

Botch is a happy camper. He was able to extend his vacation and Disneyland is a lot less crowded once the kids are back in school.
