thought this was going to happen "The European Union is considering a new tax on imports as it tries to fight climate change, and the U.S. is raising concerns about it. At issue is what’s known as a border adjustment carbon tax. The tax is designed to level the playing field for European companies by holding imports responsible for their greenhouse gas emissions the same way domestically produced products are" https://www.greenbiz.com/article/eu-wants-carbon-tax-imports-would-it-be-effective-climate-solution

some good news from biden "Biden told the crowd he was assigning Vice President Kamala Harris to lead the charge for passage of the John Lewis Voting Rights Act." and, no big deal really, "VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. – Two foster children broke into a Volusia County home, Tuesday night, then used guns they found inside the residence -- including an AK-47 -- to repeatedly fire at deputies for about 30 minutes, according to sheriff’s officials. The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office said 12-year-old Travis O’Brien and 14-year-old Nicole Jackson face felony charges of attempted first-degree murder of law enforcement officers and armed burglary." 🤣 "greatest country in the world"

"The statue of Edward Cornwallis is gone. But for many Mi’kmaq and Indigenous people across Canada, the question remains: Is the bounty still on the books or not? In late January, Halifax city council voted to remove the statue. It was taken down immediately afterwards. Cornwallis, celebrated as the founder of Halifax, issued two scalping proclamations after he arrived in Mi’kma’ki in 1749. “Ten guineas for every Indian taken or destroyed.” He rescinded both bounties by the time he left in 1752. But four years later, Governor Charles Lawrence issued another cash bounty on the Mi’kmaq in Nova Scotia. “…a Reward of Thirty Pounds for every male Indian Prisoner above the Age of Sixteen Years brought in alive or a Scalp of such Male Indian Twenty five Pounds and Twenty five Pounds for every Indian Woman or Child brought in alive…” This proclamation was never rescinded. https://www.aptnnews.ca/national-news/not-forgotten-mikmaq-bounty-never-rescinded/

when I was around ten, I lived near the one on the assiniboine, west wpg. near kenaston bridge. rode by it on my bike, it was closed in with wire fence, prison for children. I was just a child, and I was able to feel the misery emanating from that place. I did not know more than that. it was genocide plain and simple. not sure how Indians will, dig themselves out of the dung we dropped on them. all the things in this world, me sitting here, it can get you down.

rachel maddow "As Senate Republicans prepared to kill the bipartisan plan for a Jan. 6 commission, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) was seen on the chamber floor having a tense conversation with Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.). It was obvious to those who saw the discussion that the conservative Democrat was not pleased. That was understandable. This fight, more than any other in recent memory, put Manchin's entire political worldview to the test -- and it lost. After the vote, the West Virginian expressed his disappointment to reporters. "Mitch McConnell makes it extremely difficult," Manchin said. "The commission is something this country needs. There's no excuse. It's just pure raw politics. And that's just so, so disheartening. It really, really is disheartening. I never thought I'd see it up close and personal that politics could trump our country. And I'm going to fight to save this country." "disheartening" This guy Manchin must be a simpleton.

Trump prosecution "Former Manhattan assistant district attorney Alissa Marque Heydari, who now runs the academic Institute for Innovation in Prosecution, sounded more hopeful. “Using the grand jury to focus on the acts of the most powerful will help restore trust in the criminal justice system,” she said. “Too often, those tools are brought to bear on the last powerful in our society. But the investigations of the AG and DA buck this norm.” digby

mother nature is well along in the process of solving the problem. "Environmentalists are warning President Joe Biden against ditching critical green energy investments and other climate policies in his effort to strike an infrastructure deal with congressional Republicans, many of whom continue to deny the scientific reality of human-caused planetary heating. The Washington Post reported Wednesday that "in multiple rounds of talks, Republican lawmakers have held firm in opposition against key White House plans to address the changing climate" actually all Republicans are in denial about climate change. we are governed by psychotics.
