The book is very funny the movie was a very weak rendering, nothing like the book. some books should not be attempted. catch 22 for instance. in the book you come to understand what catch 22 meant without it ever being specifically explained. I saw the movie, and at one point one character tells another what catch 22 meant. right then I knew the book could not be made into a movie successfully.

I used to get together with a guy.... he disliked Justin Trudeau strongly. I asked him which of Trudeau's policies he disliked. silence, he couldn't name a single thing. These people are just not that bright.

another example is clockwork orange... the movie is almost as good as the book. treasure of the Sierra madre, the movie is quite a bit better than the book. I have heard him on democracy now, sounds plausible, but he has a website where he sells crystals and other kind of stuff that made me wonder. not sure if there has ever been any confirmation of what he says he did.

just a bit of light stuff eh? ( joke) those are very interesting to me. thanks. here's one for you, if you have not already read it. brilliant book, called one of the greatest travel books ever written. Samuel Hearne's journal. free on line. fascinating. I honestly think first nations people should read this book, since it depicts so clearly the amazing skills, resilience, tenacity of their ancestors. and their normal human flaws. also writes about animal life. he had a pet beaver that lived in his house. https://www.gutenberg.org/files/38404/38404-h/38404-h.htm and ... This is one of the best books I have read recently, Life in Germany in the 1920's, for the underclass. "Berlin Alexanderplatz (German: [bɛʁˈliːn ʔalɛkˈsandɐˌplats]) is a 1929 novel by Alfred Döblin. It is considered one of the most important and innovative works of the Weimar Republic.[1] In a 2002 poll of 100 noted writers the book was named among the top 100 books of all time.[2] Summary The story concerns a murderer, Franz Biberkopf, fresh from prison. When his friend murders the prostitute on whom Biberkopf has been relying as an anchor, he realizes that he will be unable to extricate himself from the underworld into which he has sunk. He must deal with misery, lack of opportunities, crime and the imminent ascendency of Nazism. During his struggle to survive against all odds, life rewards him with an unsuspected surprise but his happiness will not last as the story continues." have to get the right translation, although perhaps some could read it in German. thanks everyone for this thread, discussion, book suggestions.

"In a 2017 appearance before the Senate Intelligence Committee, former FBI director James Comey testified that US President Donald Trump had told him that he "hoped" Comey could "let go" of any investigation into Michael Flynn; when asked if he would take "I hope", coming from the president, as a directive, Comey answered, "Yes."

lol Poliviere. what a repulsive fool. mocking an outstanding man David Johnson. little bit "Johnston has had a long academic career, during which he came to specialize in securities regulation, corporation law, public policy and information technology law.[2] After 1966, he worked for two years as an assistant professor at the Queen's University Faculty of Law and then joined the University of Toronto's law faculty, where he taught until 1974, eventually being promoted to the rank of full professor. Johnston was then appointed as dean of the University of Western Ontario Law School, serving between 1974 and 1979, at which time he was elevated to become the fourteenth Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University." far too much to post.

new york Times "An increase in shortages of inexpensive yet critical medications is forcing hospitals to make “horrible” choices and is amounting to a national security threat, according to a report and testimony at a Senate homeland security hearing on Wednesday. A report prepared for the hearing found that drug shortages increased by nearly 30 percent last year compared with 2021, with an average shortage lasting 18 months and some spanning 15 years. They include common antibiotics, anesthetics and sterile fluids used to keep intravenous drug tubes clean. Dr. Shuman, who holds leadership roles at the University of Michigan hospital system and the Veterans Affairs Ann Arbor Healthcare System, said one cheap and established cancer drug called etoposide was recently in scarce supply. He had to weigh which patients, young and old, with lung, brain and testicular cancer, should receive the limited number of doses. “As a doctor who has devoted my life to fighting cancer, it’s hard to express how horrible that is,” Dr. Shuman said. The hospital pharmacist managed to stretch the supply on hand, but “our pharmacists should not be desperately trying to squeeze out a few last drops when a life may be on the line,” Dr. Shuman said." The problems were pegged to economic drivers, an opaque supply chain " yeah yeah, that's it, the supply chain, thats what it is, yeah yeah. Keep the greedy heartless American hands off of our healthcare system. and also those of their local reps the ucp/conservative party, who would gladly bring this brutality to canadians in exchange for a few dollars america is the only western country that does not have a drug price review board.

South Africa is a mess. Legislation proposed: "The (hiring) quotas seem especially targeted at the groups defined by the regulations as ‘coloured males,’ ‘coloured females,’ ‘Indian males’ and ‘Indian females.’ People from these communities suffered discrimination under the previous regime, and now they are being re-victimised by a democratic government that has learnt all the wrong lessons from the past,” Steenhuisen said in a statement. “In sectors like agriculture, forestry and fisheries, mining and quarrying, manufacturing, finance, arts, and science, the ‘targets’ set for coloured employees in provinces like Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West is 0.0%, effectively banning these groups from employment.” He added that in Gauteng, employment by people classified by the state as coloured is sometimes limited to below 1%. In the case of employees classified by the state as Indian, the targets are often as low as 0.1% across economic sectors. https://www.news24.com/news24/politics/parliament/absurd-and-perverse-da-on-draft-ee-targets-20230515 had to look up coloured. "Coloureds (Afrikaans: Kleurlinge or Bruinmense, lit. 'Brown people') refers to members of multiracial ethnic communities in Southern Africa who may have ancestry from more than one of the various populations inhabiting the region, including African, European, and Asian." People being classified, by ethicity, by the state. in S. Africa. the world is nuts. ruling party can not keep the power on for more than two hours. they have permanent rolling blackouts.

😂 This should work well: "Jason Maas, who served as Fajardo’s offensive coordinator with the Riders in 2022, is now the head coach of the Alouettes." some predicted quotes: "Just have to correct a few things."; "need a receiver who can catch fifty fifty balls" -

There is no end of coverage of the NFL, but There isn't much depth to The NFL coverage I hear. player salary, rating quarterbacks/receivers, trade rumours, who said what when, and why. gambling advice. which coach will be fired. is kyler a jerk, is lamar a good passer. JohnnyManziel for a while non stop. fans calling the show. Close to no discussion about the actual game of football, for instance, blocking. and given the money available to pay media, you just can't compare the two leagues. i -

Carl Sagan 1996 “I have a foreboding of an America in my children's or grandchildren's time -- when the United States is a service and information economy; when nearly all the manufacturing industries have slipped away to other countries; when awesome technological powers are in the hands of a very few, and no one representing the public interest can even grasp the issues; when the people have lost the ability to set their own agendas or knowledgeably question those in authority; when, clutching our crystals and nervously consulting our horoscopes, our critical faculties in decline, unable to distinguish between what feels good and what's true, we slide, almost without noticing, back into superstition and darkness... The dumbing down of American is most evident in the slow decay of substantive content in the enormously influential media, the 30 second sound bites (now down to 10 seconds or less), lowest common denominator programming, credulous presentations on pseudoscience and superstition, but especially a kind of celebration of ignorance” The celebration of ignorance, has reached a peak, with Trump, and some of our Canadian Trumps, National and Provincial. who knows, might get worse. It is frightening.
