  2. I think Joe Biden's trip to Ukraine means he will be the Democratic candidate for the next Presidential election. He has really succeeded under horrible circumstances;I think is already one of the great Presidents. I thought he was going to be another business as usual leader. wrong. great article in the New York Times with details about the decision to go, the planning, and his physical endurance.... long flight, long train trip, through a war zone, not controlled by US military (a first) ; written by one of the two reporters that went along with him. aids and advisors were against the trip. https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/20/us/politics/biden-kyiv-ukraine.html
  3. Carter was not as squeaky clean a President as is being said. Did some good, and some bad. https://www.counterpunch.org/2015/08/18/jimmy-carters-blood-drenched-legacy/ Made up for the bad after he left office. re secession ... article... https://news.yahoo.com/greater-idaho-pipe-dream-symptom-110000561.html "The modern American political division is overwhelmingly between urban and rural areas. But there is no conceivable way to collect the rural areas into one set of political divisions and the urban areas into another."
  4. Republicans think wind turbines cause cancer, climate change is a hoax. block efforts to move to renewables. even try to punish those that do. meanwhile Democrat/ Biden inflation reduction act is a very big step towards getting off fossil fuel. And states controlled by Democrats are taking steps. but beyond that, Republicans are at this point a party that has nothing beyond destroying democratic government, and installing a right, white, christian dictarorship. ie. to turn America into sixties Brazil, or Argentina. cant reasonably say they are the same anymore.
  5. otter chases swimmers off small dock. twice https://www.reddit.com/r/SipsTea/comments/112vkip/_/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf
  6. " "We solved the problem of 144,156 citizens of Maras with zoning amnesty," Erdogan said, using his term for the construction amnesties handed out to allow contractors to ignore the safety codes that had been put on the books specifically to make apartment blocks, houses and office buildings more resistant to earthquakes. Engineers and architects say the lack of safety features designed to absorb the shock of earthquakes likely contributed to the soaring death toll." https://www.ctpublic.org/news/world/2023-02-14/videos-show-turkeys-erdogan-boasted-letting-builders-avoid-earthquake-codes Dictator.
  7. "The vast majority of the nation’s trains continue to rely on a braking system first developed in 1868. Trains equipped with these traditional air brakes make emergency stops more slowly and with higher rates of damage than trains equipped with ECP brakes, according to both safety advocates and the Federal Railroad Administration. While air brakes stop train cars individually, as air pressure moves sequentially from one car to the next, ECP brakes operate using an electronic signal and can stop an entire train much faster." successfully lobbied against requiring this. https://www.levernews.com/rail-companies-blocked-safety-rules-before-ohio-derailment/ destruction of a town? who cares. most of today's company executives would rather go have the company of business, than be a good corporate citizen, and take smaller bonuses. wait till the oil corps can't service their debts, other obligations. holy cow.
  8. he sure had a great life. with Hal David one of the best pop tune writers since the fifties. quite a few of his tunes are musically tricky, with bars , or beats, left out or added, non standard pop tempo changes, interesting and non standard chord progressions, and somewhat difficult to sing melodies. all cleverly presented as easy to listen to pop music. bit like the beatles in that way. in later years a lefty, often on Democracy Now as a guest.
  9. we have made some progress, re bigotry. article about Johnny Bright. tv movie coming out. "But as the crowd roared in Iowa, a devious plan was allegedly brewing among the football players at Oklahoma A&M, more than 500 miles away. "They are coming after Johnny Bright," said Jerald Harkness, producer and director of "The Bright Path: The Johnny Bright Story," a documentary which airs 7 p.m. Feb. 9 on CBS Sports Network. "They don't want him on their field."" https://www.indystar.com/story/sports/college/2023/02/06/drake-football-johnny-bright-heisman-trophy-dreams-ended-oklahoma-am/69804469007/ I (barely) remember Johnny Bright, Jackie Parker, Normie Kwong. glad that I was brought up not to think of any them as black, asian, white, just great football players.
  10. "A pair of Winnipeggers got a shoutout from the stage during music's biggest night of the year. "I wanna thank the Bros. Landreth for writing this kick-ass song," legendary American blues singer and guitarist Bonnie Raitt said in her acceptance speech for Best Americana Performance at Sunday's 65th Grammy Awards. The song she won for, Made Up Mind, is a cover of the Winnipeg alternative country and folk group's song from their 2013 album Let it Lie." https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/winnipeg-broslandreth-grammy-song-bonnie-raitt-1.6738194
  11. yes, I agree.... Russia, And Fox. Fox wants the same thing as Putin. chaos, division, violence, mistrust, all leading to white, right wing, dictatorship. nearly pulled it off with Trump. and The only outfit to call Fox to account, is the voting machine companies with their lawsuits. Everyone else is afraid of Fox.
  12. "Nearly a year after the start of Canada’s 2022 Freedom Convoy—a series of protests and blockades that brought together a wide variety of far-right activists and extremists, as well as ordinary Canadians who found common ground with the aggrieved message of the organizers—the question of whether and to what degree foreign actors were involved remains largely unanswered. This paper attempts to answer some of those questions by providing a brief but targeted analysis of Russia’s involvement in the Freedom Convoy via media and social media." https://journals.lib.sfu.ca/index.php/jicw/article/view/5101/4385 interesting bit: "The timeline of coverage also reveals another notable trend involving RT and Fox News; specifically, when RT’s coverage starts to drop off, Fox News’ coverage picks up. Recent reports have documented a symbiotic relationship between the two networks, which may explain the pattern described here (Corn, 2022; Thompson, 2022)." Fox network : same agenda as Putin.
  13. NASHVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee Titans are switching Nissan Stadium to a high-tech artificial surface for the 2023 season. The move is spurred by NFL studies showing the team's natural surface may have contributed to more lower-body injuries from 2018-2021 than the six NFL venues that use the sort of monofilament fields the team will now turn to. The Hellas Matrix Turf the Titans will install is currently in use at AT&T Stadium (Cowboys), NRG Stadium (Texans) and SoFi Stadium (Chargers and Rams). It's the same turf the Titans installed in their practice bubble last offseason and they have been pleased with it. It's got all organic infill of cork and coconut that requires regular watering. https://www.paulkuharsky.com/news/titans-installing-high-tech-artificial-surface-in-nissan-stadium

  17. anyway, sorry, for going off a bit. people may not realize, what it's like..... its everywhere, and always has been. I have been on the receiving end of anti semitism since I was a child.
  18. 2020 , moderate leader of the Palestinians , M. Abbas: "RAMALLAH, West Bank — The Palestinian leader’s long, rambling speech was laced with deeply anti-Semitic tropes, including that the Jews of Europe brought persecution and the Holocaust upon themselves because of usury, banking and their “social function.” that's the moderate.
  19. of course Israel government can be criticized, so, mostly agree, but it also it depends on the nature of the criticism, where it comes from. agenda. anti semites and anti zionists have found common cause. and... People , anti zionists, that think that Jews can live peacefully in a Muslim middle eastern country, need to do some reading.
  20. go read my full, post, then respond.
  21. ignorant? Ive read Chomsky, listened to Democracy now for years, attended a lecure in Wpg by Amy Goodman. Followed Juan Cole for years. I have read a number of books about Israel, the greater middle east, North Africa, about the history of the Jews under muslim rule. The offers made to Palestinians, always refused. I have read about life of Palestinians under Fatah and Hamas. I have read about the history of Jews in Europe. and Canada. none is too many. I am also familiar with the history of the relentless terror attacks on Israelis that lead up to the wall being built. I expect I am much better informed than you. of course it is.
  22. I mean in regards to Jews..... being murdered. for being Jews. We are at the point where many Jews are pretending they are not Jews. maybe the Israel haters will start to understand why Israel exists. The Chomsky, Amy goodman types. probably not.
  23. Repeat after me: "nobody is above the law" "On Thursday, former Seminole County tax collector Joel Greenberg was sentenced to 11 years in prison. Greenberg was known to host wild parties with attendees like Rep. Matt Gaetz. One attendee of Greenberg’s parties told The Washington Post these events had “sex, drugs — whole lot of it.” Greenberg’s lawyer, Fritz Scheller, told reporters out front of the courthouse that he was “disappointed” so far “by a number of prosecutions that haven’t been brought.” When pressed further on what kinds of cases Scheller thought his client had helped potentially create, he said, “I think that there’s a number of prosecutions that can be brought in the area of the SBA fraud, the bribery and kick-backs, election fraud, and the sex cases.” https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2022/12/1/2139406/-Matt-Gaetz-s-associate-Joel-Greenberg-sentenced-to-11-years-for-sex-trafficking-and-other-crimes meanwhile an 83 year old woman in the deep south was arrested and jailed for non payment of her water bill. "A police force in Alabama is facing a flurry of condemnation from residents after it was revealed that an 82-year-old woman was jailed over her failure to pay a trash bill." @Tracker re k west. extremely disturbing. The antisemitism is really getting cranked up. not sure where this is headed.
  24. Trump entered As a candidate in 2015. eight full years of non stop headlines and articles about him. and no end in sight.
