  1. o.k...who is the best choice and why?
  2. some of these posts are laughable. He was the most qualified and experienced guy available. The rest were/are unknowns and lacking experience. Heck..let's give Maas a few more consecutive years of success to say we say he is so great. He came out of know where and truth be told was reaping the rewards of all the guys on his squad having career years together and the fact had zero injuries all year long to affect his offence. And when it came down to it in the playoffs they got pretty much shut down and he had no answers. Lapo has had years now since he was a sole OC and you can be assured he has progressed and learned and knows what didn't work and what does. He has spent the better part of two years now dissecting and analyzing defenses and how offences should attack, and what offensives shouldn't do based on looks. He has come a long way and it is noticeable from what he is saying. He is going to build a very competent attacking offence and the naysayers will be put to rest. He is the best available option and we got aggressive and grabbed him. Well done if you ask me
  3. There were other options that could have been choosen from...ones that all we needed to do was offer some $$ and make it a non-lateral move from where they were and it could have happened. But they chose Hall, and he didn't come at a low ball salary either. He was a good and I think right hire to re-establish a sense of a usefull CFL defence. There was really nothing wrong with his schemes and his game adjustments, more a matter of a couple players shy of really having a good defence, and the fact that it was a new system and an obvious learning curve for all. Next year I bet people will be raving about or defence. Pretty sure Oshea knows MB was not the guy to bring us forward but when Willy went down we were handcuffed (especially before we got Nichols) and trying to install a new system amd philosophy with a stable of relative rookie or green to the CFL quarterbacks and not really being experienced with what to look for, how to attack and how to adjust to the Canadian game would have been an utter disaster of massive proportions and would have hurt us moving forward bigtime and made this place look like a looney bin organization. Sticking with MB was the only choice and Oshea used great judgement and a set of balls to take the heat and if it came to it fall on the sword for the organization and his players. One of the reasons that he is loved and respected by players, and not just on the Bombers and why guys never really quit on him. The players we want to keep never did and the few that looked like they were slacking off are probably already decided upon as not being back anyway. The fault of this team for years has been to keep throwing consistancy and dedicated time into things, bringing us to where we are the last decade.
  4. really a team soars or flops due to it's coordinators or it's talent and or lack there of and how it's utilized. Head coaches aren't necessarily the real factor unless they are a total idiot and just do blatantly stupid things...there a few in game instances and certain decisions that they solely have to answer to but put any body on a good well balanced team and they will succeed. Mike O isn't a total idiot and sure he made a few eyebrow raising decisions but the total team failures aren't because he is the wrong hire..not at all. When this regime first took over they were behind the 8 ball and limited and time challenged on putting a staff together so the pickings were slim. But Etch was pooched...as was the first OC and now his successor. ***** and moan all you want but Walters and Miller, as well as O'shea have created an environment and organization that is an attractive destination for players now, as well as coaches. If we don't do the norm...blow it all up and start again I think that next year is going to be the start of a run of very good consistent football. We were hampered severely by what was going on with the offence and the ripple effect of it hindered the defense. Hall as DC is solid and next year will be a continuation with key guys already in place and familiar with things as opposed to a restart and learn as we go situation like this year. So right there things are already better. Leggett, Westerman, Bass, Wild, Adams, Randle and Johnson would all start on any team right now, or be key rotational guys so we are looking god there. Anderson too will be way better next year. For a big guy it's tough to come back fully after one year from ACL surgery and generally you aren't back to where you were for 2 years. I've gone through it twice personally so trust me on that. With the pieces we had on offence as is, with a capable and creative OC we should have been an above .500 team. It was such a basic and designed to fail offensive scheme it almost seemed like Bellfiuelle was paid by someone else to screw us over. Routes all run at same depth, no misdirection..no pulling lineman, maybe one outside toss to a RB all year...I could go on and on...It was literally laughable. Just a new OC alone next year even if we change no personnel we are already better there too. Add a stud big play receiver, a back to compliment Marshall, and a big mean s.o.b D-lineman and we are a 10 win team next year....score one or two more studs anywhere else on roster...we're laughing
  5. I would have picked Bass ahead if McCoil as well..had a better all around season and a rookie to boot
  6. Truthfully I hope that's the only one to go. Others aren't an area of concern..we just need some roster tweeks now.
  7. Nice to see the regime isn't waiting till after grey cup or over winter to do this but doing it now. Perhaps rookie errors and inexperienced upper management are learning and progressing. Grey Cup week a perfect time to kick tires and talk..as well as have guys kick our tires.. Good news
  8. yeah we got screwed there...and good on him arguing....go long...get a PI call and you kick a field goal to close the half...smart on his part
  9. Not a 27 year old receiver next year who really hasn't done anything. He was in the dog house a bit at beginning of camp and questions about his mettle as a player were brought up Plus a 3rd year guy then economically wouldn't make sense for many teams due to bang for buck...he will be back in CFL sooner than later I find it funny too that people say Wild couldn't playMLB due to size..look at JC Sherritt...people rave about all 5'9" and 218 lbs of him Wild goes 6 feet...some places say 6'1" and 220...some places say 208 or so but no way he that light. I been next to him and I am 256 lbs and no way i have 50 pounds on him
  10. a non guaranteed contract. Lots of guys sign deals then get dumped. That contract means squat
  11. Hurl might be taller than Wild but he doesn't have the 'prototypical" MLB body either. Wild could do just fine in Hurl's spot....actually who I kidding he would do better...Has better instincts, way more closing speed and knows pursuit angles probably better than any linebacker in the league..not just here. He could have signed anywhere he wanted in this league and start...and star in their defence. Next year you will see a combo of him..Bass and another import in the line backing corp. This year went off rails but things coming together for next year. If all goes well we could be seeing a defence with only a need for 2 Canucks. Westerman and Bilukidi...if we can land Harris which I think we will toss in a receiver, 3 0-lineman and theres your seven. I can see a lot of 3-4 next year or variations of it and we have the horses in the stable as well to go Canuck at safety which gives us a lot of flexability on defence..with the ratio and with game day roster and DI's I agree this has taken longer than most wished, and rightfully so but it's coming. OSH is learning...will be smarter next year and issues that plagued us these two years will be things of the past. Also.....don't be surprised to see Matthews back here in camp next year...his window down there is closing on him and that would open things up for whoever else we throw out there next year at receiver
  12. I okay with this. I like direction of where our defence is going and we can field a much better player at the position that Muamba would have taken with an American and pay half that amount. Sure he is good, but as a ratio buster there on defence..meh.... That money could be better spent in a position that would produce more substantial amounts of benefit....0-line...big play receiver and or as a big splash for the biggest free agent pool in the pond next year. I agree too...Harris won't be re-upping this season with B.C and I bet we can land him in free agency here for next season. Having him and Marshall together "all" the time would be crazy good. Both are excellent receivers and a defence would have a hard time keying on either one for the run, or the outlet/flats in passing. Either one could be in the back field at any given time and other in that Drury type role. A muamba won't put us over the edge as legit, would be nice but with a competent offence and another force on the D-line this defence can win games. We need a legit playmaker on offence or another bigtime o-line beast more than Muamba
  13. I like Oshea, sure he is learning as he goes, and has made some mistakes along way and stuck with an OC that just isn't capable of installing a new and creative offensive and that is what needs to be addressed, and quite frankly now is gonna have to wait until end of the year. If MO does the right thing, and releases MB right after the season ends (within weeks) then he is learning and realizes a major fault and we move forward and he deserves a third year (but a 6 game leash) We already have a guy RH who can take over interm, and quite frankly I would have no issue with him longterm as he is experienced, learned from his past mistakes and guaranteed would bring on a A1 quality OC to over see his offence. Our defence is taking shape and all the key guys will be back, we have some up and comers we are grooming and are really only a dominant D-lineman, maybe 2 from being scary good. Offence too has the parts, need a few tweeks and a better system but can be a very good ball control, grind em down offence if used right. We do need to stop the extra Canadian starter tho at the expense of another import receiver, either a real athletic burner, or a bigger mean s.o.b of a guy who can dominate smaller db's ...and for gawds sake start using Marshall how he should be. It's a shame how we waste him...he should be getting at least 10-15 touches rushing a game and 5-6 throws in various ways..I feel for that guy cause in the right system he would be awesome...
  14. Jones can play DB if someone goes down
  15. Given that he's a pretty terrible back trying to run through traffic I'm going to guess his blocking isn't anything to write home about. He's a small quick back, anything physical isn't his forte. Give him space and let him run that's really all you can expect 5'10"..201 pounds isnt really small for a back
  16. Booch

    3-4

in all honesty i see no pro's and cons to be honest as both are effective in stopping the run, just depends on the schemes used, the talent to run the schemes and the in game situations and adjustments. I prefer a 3-4 or a hybrid version of it actually as a base defence because it has more variation and you can hide where pressure comes from more successfully and change the areas of pressure so it's harder for the o-line to make their calls, that is if it is run properly. Most teams now already kind of run variations of a 3-4 anyway, just not the typical 80's and 90's set of 3 down lineman and 4 defined "linebackers"
  17. Really tho...Marshall isn't a washed up has been. If he was used properly he would easily be a 1000 yard rusher and money scoring inside the 5
  18. ah yes...forgot about Wild. Things could be looking up. And I don't think that comments about desperation and losing faith in "all" our quartebacks is soley true. A good team/GM will do whatever they can to try and upgrade during the season and due to injuries, and acquiring Nichols is an upgrade to what we can field at the moment at the QB position so I applaud Walters for this and doing what he could, with what was available to be given up. Plus, he will be a more than adequate back-up to Willy moving forward while we develop a 3rd stringer to hopefully push, or supplant Willy down the road...ala Harris in Toronto has been groomed
  19. He's no elite guy, but he is a proven starter, knows the league, the teams, and the schemes that defences run and what to look for so is far better than our two rookies (Marve and Davis) and will allow us a chance to win and actually run a similar offence to what we did with Willy when we had some success. Still needs tweaking, and maybe we can do that more with a veteran presence as opposed to quarterbacks still learning the CFL game. I would hope too that they don't give up on Marve and this may allow him to learn and develop more at the least as a third stringer when Willy comes back, or battle a new guy come spring. If Picard comes back this weekend and plays with fire against old mates (maybe he has been nicked all year and thus was sub par as he played well first few games) Adams back in at reciever and a mix of Marshall, Walker used to his strengths and the continued improvement of the defence we may just turn it around. And if they add a Lemon and a dash of Jasper our defence will be even better than anything we have putting out to date.
  20. Mainly because signing a QB off the street, not a retread CFL cast-off would serve us no use whatsoever this year for at least a month or so...we gotta go to the dance with whom we brought now. A revamping of the offensive philosophy is whats needed
  21. If this is true then I would think we are the front runners to be honest. Contrary to what alot of people on here think, or claim, we have a lot going for us organization wise, facility wise and fanbase wise. We are truly a few quick pieces and tweeks to becoming legit contender, and a compliment to Westerman is the start.
  22. when you are weak on the o-line...which I not sure we are actually, (moreso scheme and stubborn stupidity) have a running Q.B and need to alter things quickly offensively on the fly..well go to the veer or a version of...that will have the Defensive totally mixed up for the first part here...then when they sort it out...start play action and roll outs to throw..receivers will be open downfiled. I laugh as I post this somewhat, but with Marve,Marshall, Veltung and now Walker all coming out of backfield it prob would work rather nicely
  23. Hopefully we wise up and start to lean on, and use Marshall in an effective manner. The guy is a beast and the type of back who with the more work he gets in game, the more he will produce. Powerful runner and he literally pounds the defence and wears them down. Have yo ever seen him go down on first contact? He reminds me a lot of Willard Reaves on his style of play, and come cold weather and late in season when defences are getting nicked and worn down he will be extremely effective. Totally under utilized this year, and especially as a receiving threat. Get him in open space with room to start thundering downhill...Christ silly we haven't done that more. The times we have it's been money. Walker, not a feature back by any means, but if used right, swings, pitchouts, screens, he can be very effective. Guy has speed to burn and could add a dimension out of backfield we don't have right now. Maybe the being cut and the embarrassment will light a fire under him. The first few years in Hamilton when he was used right Walker was pretty good
  24. a good thing if Wild is snipped, is he would come back here if does come to Canada and not even consider anywhere else
  25. I thought Hunt looked pretty good in last pre-season game. No sign of any knee issues, was fast off edge on outside and several times was able to bull rush the Left Tackle right into the Q.B. If he to be cut, it will be more due to economics/age not so much about ability
