  1. Did they get rid of the in/out on the depth chart this year? I swear we could tell who was on and off the roster last year without needing to think back to the last game. Fortunately it is easy to find out, but kind of annoying, especially after a bye.
  2. It doesn't count for ratio or anything, but I think it counts towards total snap count for draft picks.
  3. working for me now.
  4. If Strev is healthy enough to be on as a receiver, why does he not get a snap at QB? Even if his sole purpose is the short yardage QB, why not throw on one of them. The first year he was with us, he was effective because he might not run every time. Burned some teams with the fake short yardage run. Now teams know it will be run. Don't get it.
  5. Was he on the field for the long bomb to Wilson?
  6. Didn't he do some type of plank on the back of a truck a few years ago? I was amazed with it
  7. I just wish some of our losses were blowouts that showed on the scoreboard too. Maybe show some more justification that things need to change. I cannot think of a reason that Strev didn't even get a few plays tonight.
  8. I'm surprised at anyone bringing up 0-18, but maybe that is just the sting from the game talking. We're loaded with key injuries and it seems bad ones. Our star RB is injured and has been all season. We lost two effective receivers for the game and were playing our backup QB out wide. I think there was progress in both roster selection and play that game, but it wasn't consistent and holes still exist, but going 0-18 is ridiculous. If we play that same game against Ottawa last week, we win. Losing Lawson, Schoen, Lawler for extended periods of time puts a lot of pay off the cap this year. Maybe someone shakes free from another team or NFL that allows us to fill a gap. We're finding some good rookies through this process too, just hope it comes together that we can make playoffs and we get a few guys back to make a run.
  9. Concerned that Smith may still be hampered by injury, otherwise it makes more sense to give him and Augustine duties at RB and rest Brady. Rather have Brady fully recovered and ready to dominate while learning what Smith can do in the offense.
  10. Love it! Thanks for pointing this out. Exactly the type of content I've been looking for to get more in-depth analysis.
  11. I still think he's the best coach in the league, but his faults are absolutely obvious and given where we are as a franchise, his weaknesses are coming to the fore. Building around a group of core vets and establishing a culture can be a good way to build a team out of the basement, but sticking with vets and giving very little consideration to developing players and building to the future will increase the likelihood we need to do a complete rebuild rather than gradually shift out old pieces for new ones to stay on top. They do it in the offseason and I'm hopeful we'll see it throughout this season, but it is so discouraging to see nothing changed as a result of training camp. Again, it might just be that O'Shea didn't want too much change all at once, which I don't think is necessarily bad. Shake the bad performance from last week, Collaros can find his form again especially having a higher dose of Strev. Find out who is on the roster that can step up during the season and let them take over for the vets that underperform. Still hard to refresh a team with horrible roster/PR management, but there's still hope.
  12. They used Strev at least twice outside of QB. I found that encouraging and I hope they don't go away from that just because it didn't work well. I think that could be very difficult to prepare for and defend against. I was hoping they would have two QBs on since they signed him. I also think Strev will be used more in a QB role in the future, but it seems like the coaching staff believes that you shouldn't try new wrinkles when the offense is out of sync and that they need to play through it to find some rhythm. Judging by O'Shea's post-game comments about not properly preparing the team, I think he realized the team was set back by poor pre-season roster management. I think he rightly thought that they could find their groove if they shook off the rust, it just didn't happen. Back when we were just starting to be a winning team we used "trick" plays a lot and O'Shea insisted they don't work well unless you're in a groove already. Hopefully part of the game plan going forward is that Strev is part of the game plan and hopefully rust can't be an excuse for others anymore. I'm much more concerned about the long term issues with roster management and lack of competition than with issues from week 1 which I think were more symptoms of the bigger problem than a problem in its own right. Knowing the team had issues at the end of last year and that we host a Grey Cup next year, you'd expect some actual competition in camp this year.
  13. Even vets losing their jobs mid-season when talent under them in the depth chart has proven to be better. I can think of Winston Rose and Alden Darby last year and I guess that is good. Hopefully we can see some of that, but to see the depth chart really unchanged throughout training camp and nobody cut or even bumped is disappointing, especially when we did see some obvious deficiencies at the end of last season. Not sure if it is indicative of poor scouting and weak players brought in or just a stubbornness to have a vet lose a job. My hope is that, with all the changes from guys not re-signed, O'Shea didn't want too much change at one time and the top talent will eventually be allowed to start.
  14. Correct me if I'm wrong, but looking at our training camp cuts and depth chart, I don't think one vet lost a spot to another player. Not one cut and not one demoted to a backup role. That seems problematic to me. Not one person that jumped off the chart to gain a spot or a vet that declined to lose a spot (other than those not re-signed)? Not even something somewhat surprising like Eli jumping ahead of Kolankowski or Lofton losing the starting RT spot he was basically assigned when he joined our team? Augustine losing his spot to Rosery? Perhaps that will change as the season rolls along, but I don't take it as a good sign that we could have penciled in the depth chart other than which rookies grabbed the spots not contested by vets.
  15. Agreed, that gave some hope to hear he acknowledged a problem that many others could clearly see.... but then he also said that Collaros didn't need any preseason time.
  16. Kuale, Hurl, Gauthier, Thomas (overuse), even Hecht if S can be considered "middle". Seems like some of the most obvious roster blunders over the last years have come through the middle, especially MLB.
  17. It seems like the marketing is always trying to push the non-fan into a social/casual fan. There's really very little attention paid to converting a casual fan to a dedicated fan by the league, team or national/local broadcasters. I assume there a lot more financial motivation to gaining casual fans, but it seems to leave a lot of people left wanting more depth. TSN simply chooses a storyline and tries to constantly (annoyingly) highlight it throughout the game, even when the flow of the game doesn't fit their chosen narrative. I assume some of that is just trying to retain the attention of the casual fan and force a storyline rather than letting the game tell a more dynamic story. I wouldn't expect a current coach to sit down and discuss anything from the current season. Having a retired player/coach do something more in depth, especially with video would be great. Could be produced by teams, league or even PA. They could even just provide general insights and use clips from current/previous seasons to give examples. My ultimate dream would be an expansion of something like CFL Plus where old games can be streamed and some original content could be produced. Surely there would be some fans willing to pay for streaming access to older games or even just to replay earlier games from the season. I'd think that would be a decent avenue for hooking casual fans into getting more in depth and giving serious fans some extra incentive to shell out some extra money.
  18. I'm fairly certain there was a time where this was very strictly imposed in Bomberland. I'm thinking when Kelly was going into his downward spiral of hatred with the media, but I could be wrong. That's why I'd listen to the coaches show before, every once in a while there would be a nugget that I'd learn something from and give me greater insight to the game. I still thirst for this and this forum is where I get the most of it. I was recommended this book - Take Your Eye Off the Ball 2.0: How to Watch Football by Knowing Where to Look - Pat Kirwan, David Seigerman - Google Books - I don't know from where, possibly here. Haven't read it yet, as I was hoping to find a source more dedicated to Canadian football, but this may have to do.
  19. There was a time where only the head coach was allowed to talk to the media. I don't remember when or who the head coach was, but I have a vague memory that there was some incident that caused the policy to be created. Wish I could remember more.
  20. Looking to take my 3 year old son to his first Bombers experience by taking him to see some TC this week. I don't think his attention span would make it worth bringing him to a game yet. My question - would it be better to take him to a normal practice or the walkthrough on Thursday? Thursday might work better for our schedule, but I'm concerned walkthrough wouldn't provide much excitement for a rookie Bomber fan.
  21. App works for me to scan the barcode, just not requesting holds or updating information. Last I saw was that they expected the problem to last for a while. Now that I have to use the website instead of the app, I've found an interesting service where they suggest books. You fill out a form and a librarian gets to you within 5 days to make 5 suggestions. I was impressed with the suggestions made for me. - Five-in-Five Book List (libwizard.com)
  22. I don't think the receivers were the reason we had no stretch downfield.
  23. Especially when we played not to lose two years in a row. We said it was just another game and the rest didn't matter - we played like it was obvious we would win and we just had to wait for that outcome.
  24. I'm not saying he was the problem. I'm saying him being our nominee for rookie of the year is indicative of the talent we brought in the rest of the team this year. Even if your punter is outstanding, it looks bad on your crop of rookies if he's the best thing you got for ROY.
