Honestly would not surprise me if taxpayers paid the moving costs when Pally sold his house. I wonder if he actually did move to Costa Rica or just one of his other houses. Apparently downsized to a condo since they already have other residences. The education property tax cut probably made the mansion a lot more desirable on the market though...

Yup. That sounds like it. As I recall, that seemed to motivate us even more.

Was it a Stamps player that attempted to twist Strev's leg during our run last year. I remember Strev limping the entire game, but still crushing them. Someone clearly tried to ruin him and he got up as upset as I've ever seen him. Don't remember the team/player though.

He's been great, but that move was big time addition by subtraction. Got rid of poopy Hecht and his undeserved inflated ego. Do yourself a favour, do not check his twitter. The guy is dumber than he is slow. So glad he's not around this year.

Yet at the same time calling others sheep because they don't "do their own research" 🙄

Will the costs of the court case come out of public funds? I read the story by Bartley Kives, but it didn't mention that taxpayers were on the bill for it. The reasons for the lawsuit are apparently solely for the benefit of the PC party, even according to the PC party... "While the PC Party has confidence that no such grounds would exist, unfounded allegations and drawn-out proceeding would be detrimental for the PC Party to carry out its role and to the long-term reputation of the PC Party." If we are truly on the hook for the bill, I can see why you resorted to jamming the caps lock key down. First public funds are used to challenge carbon tax, then marijuana legislation (both baseless and likely initiated just to show PC supporters they are fighting). I'd be interested to know for sure this is a publicly funded case. It seems all three cases are an attempt to bolster the party's reputation at a cost to taxpayers.

It is a joke and a disgrace that our health minister is a member of one of the most flagrant offenders of Covid restrictions and even sued the government over restrictions. Not to mention that she's been caught multiple times violating the rules herself. I don't know how anyone would look at her as an example of leadership or credibility. Still haven't heard anything over her getting fined for her last transgression that she would "willingly accept and pay"

My feed keeps cutting in and out. Every time I get the feed back its either Cooper or McGuire screwing up.

There is a new game for PC that is very much Tecmo-inspired. Pro Strategy Football 2022 - https://store.steampowered.com/app/1527500/Pro_Strategy_Football_2022/ I haven't played much of it since I don't game very much anymore, but I loved Tecmo back in the day. In trying to remember the name of that game, I found that they are making updated Tecmo games every year. Looks like it is for emulator only - https://tecmobowl.org/

Projections of over 200 cases a day for December. Medical procedures are being postponed in order to increase ICU capacity. Southern health expected to go up a lot faster in the near future. Ballsy decision to specifically target religious gatherings, especially in southern region. New restrictions seem based on where cases are happening with an attempt to make sure vaccinated people are not being unfairly punished by those causing outbreaks. Time for more restrictions in hopes that the holiday season will be better than the last. I can imagine how limits to religious gatherings will go for Southern health along with the people that will play into the 'persecution/removal of human rights' for personal fame or gain. I already see the dollar signs in the eyes of pastor Leon recruiting the religious nuts from southern health since Springs isn't included in the new restrictions.

Bye Bob (Irving Retirement)
WildPath replied to Pete Catan's Ghost's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
If I recall Bob has had to miss some games due to a heart condition and he hates flying. CJOB did a two hour CJO-Bob Day. They released it on a podcast. I've only listened to 30 minutes so far. -
One of the articles I posted mentioned the provincial government began to consider a mask mandate in September. I believe it was already a requirement by the city of Winnipeg, but my point was that the province lagged behind when it was already clear that masks were a good preventative measure. I don't believe any public health officials were legitimately dithering about masks in the summer, but it was a political decision not to mandate them province wide. We paid for this. Restart Manitoba and the public funding to attract large events and tourism happened in August July I believe. Definitely before provincial mask requirements. For fun I looked way back at this thread. Masks were definitely a thing and desired by posters at least at the start of May, likely quite a bit before. Side note: reading a few pages from way back in this thread is pretty interesting. I would love to have it archived and be looked back at in 5/10 years.

Correct about the first few weeks. I should clarify that I didn't mean the first few weeks, but for most of the time after, at least up until Christmas when Pallister made his tearful cancelling Christmas speech. For most of that first year, medical professionals were consistently urging more restrictions and were especially critical of the 'Restart Manitoba' campaign. Steps like the ones suggested by doctors in the article below would have prevented or decreased our huge surge around Christmas 2020. Our government consistently favoured short term economic benefits over health recommendations. Our health minister, Cameron Friesen, questioned the motivation of the doctors and criticized the doctors for attempting to cause chaos and said "we got this" before our huge wave of Covid. - https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/health-minister-doctors-letter-1.5788783 https://winnipeg.ctvnews.ca/frontline-physicians-urge-manitobans-government-to-take-action-against-covid-19-1.5172070 In regards to masks, initial information was somewhat confusing and varied. My memory is that it was clearly established that masks were beneficial for a long time before we instituted a mask mandate. I remember the PCs being questioned about it continually and the retort was always 'strongly recommended', but not required. I had a hard time finding when we eventually issued a mask mandate, but I found this article from Sept. 2020 that the province was considering it. I believe the effectiveness of masks was strongly supported well before this date. Covid has messed with time for me, but I believe it is around the time Trump was also being roasted for criticizing masks and recommending them, but not being for him. https://winnipegsun.com/news/provincial/province-considering-mask-mandate-according-to-internal-government-memo

We were abysmal for the first year or slightly less of the pandemic. Refusing mask mandates, criticizing doctors, making cuts to health care. Spending public money last summer to encourage large events and tourism (half a year before people would start getting vaccinated). We basically had a victory parade before each wave of the pandemic because "we are not like other jurisdictions" in the words of Pallister. We fought bringing in restrictions and then blamed people for not taking extra steps that were suggested, but not mandated by the province. People lost their lives and some their livelihoods because we kept hoping our province was immune to pandemic waves for some reason. We've since allowed for more input from medical professionals and taken a more cautious route with more foresight. Taking the lead with vaccine requirements has been great. I think we have tried to walk the line between trying to make things as close to normal as possible for vaccinated people, which I think is the best way to go. The unvaccinated (by choice) should be bearing the brunt of restrictions. They've had their time flouting restrictions, now is their time to take responsibility. We haven't been perfect, we've still flirted with removing mask mandates while fighting with medical professionals and the city of Winnipeg. PC MLAs have done a piss-poor job showing leadership by posting photos at gatherings without masks. Our health minister is a joke. Compared to ideal pandemic leadership we are still bad. Compared to conservative governments in the two provinces to the west of us - we look pretty decent recently.

As frustrated as I've been with our government in Manitoba, we've lately been able to look great compared to the incredibly low bar with Alberta's government. We did take some precautions to reduce/delay a 4th wave. We had so much too little/too late throughout the pandemic here, that any action that comes before the peak of a wave seems relatively good. I'm wondering if we can skype Pallister in from Costa Rica to cancel Christmas again.

I agree that we probably shouldn't be able to say no to healthcare. Doctors Manitoba has asked the province to develop triage protocols. I wouldn't have an issue with unvaccinated Covid patients (without a legit exemption) being put at the back of the line for health care. Ideally we would have the capacity to provide treatment to all, but there have been non-Covid patients dying in hospital when there was suitable precautions that others could have taken (a vaccine). In other words, people deciding to be unvaccinated has directly led to the death of non-Covid patients in the hospital. I believe I have already read that there are cases where vaccinated people are being given priority for transplants. https://globalnews.ca/news/7887756/doctors-manitoba-triage-protocols-covid-19/

Bye Bob (Irving Retirement)
WildPath replied to Pete Catan's Ghost's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Couldn't agree more. Irving is a broadcaster for those who actually like the sport and don't feel there needs to be any gimmicks. Doesn't feel the need to be cheap or artificial because he genuinely loves the game. My introduction to the Bombers as a kid was through listening to Bob call the games. We didn't have cable/satellite for the longest time, but I would be able to see a few games on CBC and maybe a game at the stadium in the cheapest seats every year or two. Mostly I relied on Bob to paint the picture of what Canadian football is. Was I ever lucky to be introduced to football by that man. I don't know if I would have the same love for the Canadian game without him. -
Also important, as I continually harp on, is noting that vaccinated people are more likely to get tested when symptoms/exposure happens. I don't think they'd do it, and maybe they couldn't, but seeing the percentages of people vaxxed/unvaxxed getting tested would be illuminating. The numbers are already pretty indicative of the power of vaccines without the additional context. Sorry, stats nerd.

I don't even know if you can safely say selfish in all cases. Some likely legitimately fear the vaccine and believe conspiracy theories. The "I trust my own immune system" group - selfish. The conspiracy believing group - dumb. The players are great athletes, not necessarily the geniuses of society.

The problem is reallocation/spending differently/finding efficiencies is basically shining the cuts turd. The strategy is to announce reallocation and efficiencies found because of previous government overspending and wastefulness. The reality is that the system is being cut. Even touting overall spending increases does not mean we are keeping up with a growing population or a population with increased needs. Announcements like the one linked below show there are real cuts, even in the middle of the pandemic. It is promoted as efficiencies and cutting the fat off the top. Who has to take the responsibilities from the ones who lost their job? It trickles down to regular health professionals like nurses that have more on their shoulders. The budget looks better because nurses get paid less than senior officials, but nurses are overworked, stressed and leaving the profession. I know nurses working in the field. Covid has made things especially challenging, but savings/efficiencies/reallocations have compounded the damage. https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/southern-health-region-cuts-covid-1.5813496 This is the effect, keep in mind these numbers are from periods outside peak Covid infections: https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/manitoba/emergency-nurses-health-sciences-centre-raise-alarm-long-wait-times-1.6158973 https://www.msn.com/en-ca/health/medical/more-than-25-of-patients-left-health-sciences-centre-s-er-without-being-seen-in-july-data/ar-AAPi8Nn

The funniest part of this for me is that the anti-vaxxers paid the PC party membership fees to vote in the election and now they are right pissed off and likely feeling a little dumb.
-
I would have hated for Glover to win, but I could definitely see why her supporters would be upset. Stefanson was clearly the choice of the party, there was an issues of missing ballots and it was a very close result. Anti-vax whackos joined up on mass to have their say in the new premier. Anti-vax superstar Patrick Allard personally went around to collect ballots from his mob of idiots and deliver them because they didn't trust mailing them in. Is this a rerun of a show I've seen before?

I live right by one of their schools. Walk by it frequently and see no Covid precautions, even while there is an active outbreak. Sure, I only see outdoors, kids are still unmasked and bunched together.

Unfortunately, it is not just the bible belt. Winnipeg's own Spring Church has decided to offer religious exemptions to vaccine mandates. My guess is that it is the biggest church in the province (by net worth at least), but I could be totally wrong on this. Even more disgusting is that our health minister is a member of Springs Church and has been caught breaking health rules herself multiple times already. Hate linking to the Sun, but there's no paywall: https://winnipegsun.com/news/news-news/springs-church-offers-religious-exemptions-for-vaccines
