I haven't used my card yet. Do they check photo ID as well? If they don't is there anything stopping people from just borrowing a valid card?

The thing is, I've always felt that a lot of the same people would be pushing others out of line to get the vaccine if the virus was significantly more deadly. Think zombie apocalypse level. Considerations for others and preventing a prolonged pandemic just don't seem to factor for some.

I think a big part of the boom is that (some) people have been saving tons of money through the pandemic. Those fortunately to not lose jobs or business income. Not spending on entertainment/travel/etc. puts a lot of money in the ol' savings account.

I hear you. I have a three month old and I've been doing research in regards to transmission from fully vaccinated people and risk if he does get it somehow. According to Mayo Clinic, many kids have very little symptoms and are often diagnosed when they are admitted to hospital for other reasons, such as a broken arm - carrying Covid, but not really affected by it. Kids under 1 year of age are a bit of a different story as they have smaller airways and are less developed. My autoimmune condition likely means the vax was less effective on myself. I'm not too worried about hospitalization/death to myself, but more concerned with spreading to my son and other kids. Really want to go to the home opener, but weighing it carrying Delta back to my home. Fortunately I can have some reassurance being around others that have been sensible and likely have better protection than myself from the vax.

I can't find the screenshot to post it, and it has since been deleted but the PC Caucus twitter released a pretty cringey statement after that. I personally know teachers that have had Covid cases in their class and argued with health officials whether others would be considered close contacts. Apparently "no school transmission" was the message and you can't go against that message. I believe there were two groups (there was at least one) that had to track Covid cases in schools with help from parents receiving letters because the government wouldn't do it.

I see a lot of parallels to the situation we're facing with climate change, except the climate change situation is even worse. A country only sees a small portion of the benefits from taking active climate change initiatives and receives all the benefits of other countries taking actions. It's why we've seen such little action done even though its pretty obvious the planet is getting pretty bad. That's why we hear the bullshit about "why should we do anything when China (insert other "evil" country, but its usually China) isn't doing their part." The larger populace gets screwed by anti-maskers/anti-vaxxers, but at least most sensible people can do something to protect themselves individually, while idiots will often face personal consequences from being exposed to the virus. Its kind of shitty for kids or those who are unable to get vaccinated, hospital staff that has been overwhelmed for over a year, and those who may get it despite being fully vaccinated. Not to mention everybody who follows restrictions and wants life to get back to normal and business that have been hurting for far too long.

Vaccinate their animals, practice quarantining for animals, religiously take steps for biosecurity....

If it works change people's minds and can get things a lot closer to normal - great. There's a real chance we'll still be affected by variants and such for quite a while unless people get on board fast. Having large events, like bomber games, restricted to people who are vaccinated or have a legitimate reason for not getting vaccinated not only provides an impetus for vaccine hesitant to get their jab, but also makes bomber games safer for kids and those with medical reasons who rely on others to be sufficiently vaccinated. Giving people the option to get a vaccine in fine, but allowing those people to make large events unsafe for those with no option to protect themselves and others kinda sucks.

Talked with someone at the Bomber offices this morning about getting season tickets and what the rules will be for vax cards and everything. Didn't seem like anything was set in stone, but it sure seemed like vaccinations will be optional. The explanation seemed like they needed to cater to fans that can't be vaccinated (understandable exemption) and those that don't want to get vaccinated. That was pretty much a non-starter for me getting tickets.

Definitely not a plan, but I think for good reason. It is very hard to put a clear and defined plan in place when there are so many variables and it really is a moving target. Lots may depend on the Delta variant or any other variants that could mess up the most thought out plan. To be accurate, what it is is a rebranding of the restart/reinfect MB plan we've had in place since we "defeated" Covid last fall and spent money to attract tourism and large events. I wonder if that plan is officially retired now.

Dougald Lamont is my MLA and their platform and I've been more in tune with his party than I normally am with provincial politics. Their platform is way different than the PC platform. In many instances I would argue that it is more progressive/left leaning than the NDP platform. If you look at the last election, the 2 seats that the liberals lost went to the NDP, none to PC. The 4 seats the NDP lost were split evenly between Lib/PC and the one PC seat lost went to the NDP. All that suggests to me that there is a lot more switching between NDP/Lib support than PC/Lib. Because I have a bit of time I looked back to the 2016 election as well and there were no PC/Lib or Lib/PC exchanges either.

While the Gimli area could swing, the new Interlake-Gimli riding also absorbed the Lakeside riding which looks to never have gone NDP and the last time a non-PC candidate represented the area was in 1969. I don't know too much about the riding's history or makeup other than what I have looked into online, but the PCs did almost get twice as many votes in the last election there. That would be a huge loss if they lose the riding in the next election. Either way, splitting hairs if we both agree the vax cards won't be much of a factor.

Good point. I looked back at last election and Interlake/Gimli riding wasn't very close (almost twice as much support for PC), but Selkirk could swing for sure. And Dauphin too. Many rural ridings are landslides for the PCs though. I do expect/hope some ridings will change, I just don't see introduction of vaccine cards playing much of a factor as the ridings where vaccine cards are a mortal sin are also ridings where voting anything but blue is also a mortal sin.

Dwindle to where? Become "communists" and support the NDP? Maybe a few less likely to vote for a while, in rural areas where they'll get a huge majority regardless. I don't really see many of the things they have done that their opposition would have do as well changing people's minds too much. Maybe I'm wrong and the Christian Heritage Party is licking their lips, but I don't see any other options on the right side of the spectrum for people set against vaccine passports.

I wonder if there will be a boost for them for when we are able to really loosen up restrictions more. There should be loads of optimism around and I wonder if they'll be the beneficiary of some of that. As horrible as they've handled the pandemic, within the last week they've brought vaccine cards along with associated privileges and extending the vaccine lotteries to all people vaccinated, rather than just the remaining unvaccinated. Two things I could have seen them screwing up.

Totally agree. I think a lot of the "F this" attitude has developed when restrictions don't make sense. It is so easy to disregard restrictions when they don't make sense from a health standpoint. I've seen a lot of friends giving up with following restrictions because of how little sense they make. Not being able to see people in their own yard while maintaining social distance. Then seeing a lot of others clearly disregarding restrictions, anti-lockdown/mask/vaccination rallies along with huge amounts of people disregarding restrictions at beaches and such this past weekend. Fortunately they have made some progress with arresting leaders of these rallies, but its probably too little, too late again. Once you see others living like normal and not seeing restrictions have much effect, it is hard to see a point of making things harder on yourself by following restrictions.

While I'm happy that there will be vaccination cards and freedoms associated with them, it is a bit unfortunate on a personal level how they will be issued. Since the PCs cancelled health care for international students, my wife is unable to get a MB health card. So in addition to the $6000+ we had to pay for the birth of our son, she won't get the bonus freedoms associated with being fully vaccinated. While I understand the reasoning of tying it to a MB Health card, I still hope there will eventually be some kind of workaround. Regardless, still glad that this allows more freedoms for people who have been enthusiastic for vaccines, but have been punished by the actions of anti-vaxxers.

Definitely hoping we go with some kind of vaccine passport. As Rich said, some people can't get vaccinated. Just as having unvaccinated kids in school puts kids that can't get a vaccine at risk, having unvaccinated people at a Bombers game makes it a risky endeavor for those who may not be able to get vaccinated. I may be willing to offer a concession if the anti-vaxxers agreed to wear a mask the whole time, unfortunately the anti-vaxxers are often anti-maskers as well.
