How to eat food without being racist
WildPath replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in General Discussion
That's right! I forgot that it was duck and not chicken. Shame on me for forgetting that as I actually raise ducks! For some reason I believe it is also done with chicken fetus, perhaps in a different culture, though maybe I am wrong about that too. -

And I find it offensive that I'm not able to feel that some things are weird. Perhaps if we both learned to manage our own emotions better we'd be more ok with those of others. You're welcome to find it weird. Just as I can find that a bit disrespectful. I think there's room for both of us to have our opinions. I find it surprising and unappealing to eat chicken fetus in the egg. I am friends with people that do and I attempted to try it..... the result was unsuccessful Absolutely (and I edited my original post to not sound so much like I was attacking you), it's when people are shamed for their opinions (like the first example)and when programming and policy decisions are influenced (like the second) when it becomes a problem. Okay, didn't notice the edit till you pointed it out. I think people being shamed for their opinions is partially why I commented in the first place. I found the article to be a completely biased attack on the opinions someone wrote without them having a chance to respond to defend or clarify their point. -

How to eat food without being racist

Sure, attack the source (we see that a lot here), and yes, I admit it was an attack piece to some extent, and I also admitted that there is some real cultural insensitivity out there like dressing up in black face etc. that needs to be frowned upon in our society, but what got me worked up wasn't the lunatic lady with the food issues, it was the yoga story (I notice you didn't mention that one). That is a ridiculous use of the term "cultural appropriation" to ban yoga from a school campus, but no surprise that it is being banned at one of our uber-hip and uber-PC universities, and of course, at the extreme PC University of Ottawa, one of the worst campuses in Canada for jumping on whatever stupid politically correct trend is fashionable. Here's part of the yoga story: The verbal diarrhea coming out of that student federation president's mouth sounds extremely Orwellian, in that it makes no sense whatsoever. "Yoga-like spaces" - ??? Just ridiculous. I didn't comment on the yoga story because a) I don't much about it and that wasn't what the topic was about. I was just trying to point out that some seemed to be jumping on board with the posted article that was blatantly biased. The author of the article may have a point, but so might the actual book being commented upon. I am not familiar with it other than what has been quoted in the article you posted, but I am supposing that is also true of many if not everyone else commenting. The yoga story does seem strange to me, I have no clue why it would be cancelled, but again, I haven't taken the time to check the source. And I probably won't. -
How to eat food without being racist
WildPath replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in General Discussion
It's easy to criticize something when a few quotes have been pulled out of a book in a blatant attempt to demonize a social justice movement. I know it's obviously just an opinion, not an actual review of the book, but its comical to me how it has been used to inflame people against a certain point of view. I don't really see anything wrong with the actual quotes from the book, though I doubt I'd agree with the whole book had a read it. To think of a food from another culture as weird cause it doesn't fit with our experiences does seem disrespectful to me. I think it can be viewed as different or unappealing though. I wouldn't be surprised if someone saw it strange to consume lactations of a mammary gland of other animals, though it is largely a staple of my diet. Or eat food that is filled with ingredients that we don't even know, created through I process that we don't understand, but I do love my jalapeno cheddar cheetos. What I'm basically trying to say is just to make sure its understood this is from a conservative opinion piece from a company who has endorsed both Bush presidents (W twice) and feature Newt Gingrich and Sarah Palin as guest authors. -
What I remember of Berry was him hating Serna and causing Serna to lose confidence. Far from what is being suggested. Plus, O'Shea did fire Etch. I don't think firing him during the season would have salvaged much anyhow. I'm not sure the cronyism still exists. It's to early to tell with this management. I don't think O'Shea should be fired anytime soon, but I did wonder in a curious way if Walters would be able to pull the trigger if need be

Team Losing Because Of Coaching Decisions

And by starting, I mean..... starting in the third string spot. -

I wonder if something fishy is going on here. If he wasn't in shape to play or practice why was he taking up a roster spot instead of starting Davis? -

Well O'Shea said on CJOB that he didn't practice this week because he was 'nicked up' -
How does everybody feel about this "coverage"
WildPath replied to Mike's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
The entitlement they show in those tweets is concerning. If they were committed to doing their job well, not just the tweets would be different, but they would actually want to watch practice. Like many, I have been disappointed with coverage for a long time, but on reflection have noticed it has hit a new low this year. Filler is a good term. If only they gave a press pass to someone knowledgeable from this site there could be some really good info out there. As it is, the site is usually better for information than the papers. So I guess that's the positive side of having horrible media coverage. I also wonder where the weak link(s) are between the club, media and fans. I think O'Shea might believe in controlling the message to the degree Mike Kelly did, but he's able to control his emotions better. I can't stand how dull interviews with O'Shea are. Doesn't give anything to add interest to the team. If that ends in results on the field I guess that's the goal though. But its hard when fans are not even allowed to know information about injuries. I believe the press is frustrated with the team too, but they should still at least try to do their job. -
Who was the best coach for interviews?
WildPath replied to BigBlue's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I was just thinking about this the other day. And I was thinking specifically about Ritchie being interviewed from his office. My memory is failing... Was Ritchie regularly interviewed behind his desk or was this just once or twice? -
Sears was a game changer for us. What I loved about him was his ability to lead others on the team to play better off the field and certainly motivated them on the field seeing him knock guys around. Brought a good deal of entertainment for the fans too.

Chijoke Onyenegecha, love that one

I'm not particularly against the logo, but gotta have the royal blues. On a side note, probably my favourite jerseys of all-time (any sport) are the BC Lions gunmetal jerseys they brought out recently. They are sharp and I wish we would have come out with something like that, but I'm not sure it would have fit our colour scheme.

I was really a fan of Renaud when he first joined the team. I had never seen a punter pursue his kicks like Renaud and he made a couple of game-changing plays as a result of recovering his own punts or causing chaos getting downfield fast... Wish I still had some video footage of it. Unfortunately, if I recall, his downfield pursuit caused an injury and he never resumed that part of his game. Seemed like a great team player and character guy though.

I wonder if there`s a chance that Toronto could be hoping this would make him more likely to land in Winnipeg. If they believe that he`s going to be a good player, they`d want him out of the division. Right now I think Hamilton doesn`t have a clear picture of whether Burris will be back or not, making Winnipeg look like the best opportunity for Collaros. If they waited until free agency to let him look that could mean Burris is out of Hamilton and Collaros would be more likely to sign in Hamilton. Or maybe this theory of mine is a reach.....

I think the big reason for the changes on offense is to get a good evaluation of our quarterbacks. Give them the best possible oline and see what they can do. I don't mind what they are doing there. Pencer does need playing time to develop, but we know he'll be back next year, so might as well focus on getting a good read on the QBs.

Watson and Simpson traded? (Rumour Invalidated)
WildPath replied to kelownabomberfan's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
So happy this thread has transitioned into an office space meme thread -
I am still in support of giving Goltz more time to develop, but I am slightly disappointed in his scrambling abilities. Perhaps Goltz is the fastest QB in the league, or at least one of the quicker ones, but I haven't seen much of the ability to scramble when he's in trouble. We saw Durant get away from pressure frequently and I even think ol' Buck still has a decent ability to get away from pressure(when given the green light), but when I see Goltz try to run under pressure, he usually moves forward a few yards and then gets taken down. I don't see him buying himself extra time or breaking contain to get a first down all that often. I will say that he may improve in this area, but I sure was jealous seeing how great Durant was at escaping pressure.

Its almost like... our scouting department discovered someone that was forgotten by the nfl. We sign him, they see his name in the news, and then say "Oh yeah, I remember him now, we should take a look at him"
-
Wow, now this move is out of left field. What is Burke/Miller thinking? Clearly Crowton was just about to break out of his sophomore slump
-
Yeah, seems to confirm what I've been watching. Goltz has outplayed Pierce this year. Seems like the coaching staff, or maybe just Burke, has a belief that Buck will 'find his form' eventually and lead the team to great success out of the gutter. Really disappointed with the choice to promote Buck to #2. Don't really know how that's justified. I thought I remember Burke saying on a coaches show earlier in the year they were making some moves with the practice roster in order to stay under the salary cap. Still floors me that we've found a way to be close to the cap even after releasing Hef. Its probably only a matter of time before Buck is eventually released.
-
Hmm, really interesting post. Wonder how the Riders and Bombers compare to the rest of the league.
-
Somehow this seems like a momentous occasion even though it was expected by many to happen this season. I like the idea of players transitioning into coaches and having stability in the organization, but I don't see Buck as a great QB coach. It seems his strength is being a competitor, not necessarily having a great football mind. I don't mind seeing him stay with the team beyond his playing career, but if this is 'grooming' him like Calgary has done with Dickenson, I'm not a fan.

I've been lurking OB for many, many years now. Usually I pretty dedicated follower, yet never signed up for a post. Especially in the last few years I've been disappointed to see so many threads turn from a civil discussion about a difference of opinion to personal bickering. I have to admit, I was a bit disappointed to hear about the people leaving OB to start a new site(it took a bit of searching to even find this site unfortunately). I figured the split meant either that I would have to follow two sites or that several great members migrated over to a new site (MBB) that would fizzle and die and OB would never get them back. After a while of lurking on both sites, I almost exclusively lurk around here unless I'm pretty bored. I don't all that much about site layout and how pretty things look. But I really enjoy an actual community message board where people self-moderate as Mike said, so threads aren't continually hijacked into personal qibbles and insults. Now that I've actually created an account and posted after years of lurking, maybe I will start coming out of the shadows more often.
