Official GDT: vs Ham 08/03/16 Game Day We All Play!

No reason to release him until years end, but this is totally correct. You don't pay your backup 400k -
Ain't nothin' wrong with that

Official GDT: vs Ham 08/03/16 Game Day We All Play!

I have no idea what to expect tonight after we won in Edmonton last week. Everything from a Bombers blow out to a Ticats blow out and in between wouldn't shock me. In a lot of ways it's like watching the Jets last year... who's going to show up? No idea. Prediction time, anyway... 20-18 for the Bombers. Nichols is serviceable but it's a ground game in bad weather. MOS is all but guaranteed security for the remainder of the year the win, and Nichols gets until at least labour day. -
Not to bring this up again, but, my god, Goalies last post is the exact rhetoric that Pavelec defenders used for years and years. Literally to a T. Instead of Willy you have Pavelec, and instead Nichols you have Mason, Montoya, Hutchinson. The same strawman arguments about people thinking Hutch not being a savior (no one claimed) are now being trotted out for Nichols. No one thinks Nichols is a star QB who's a savior, but, he sure as hell is better than Willy and a lot cheaper. Hmm who's that remind you of? Stop constructing Strawmen arguments. Further, the game is played on the field. Not on paper, and results aren't determined by who's better in practice or who has perceived to have better tools and upside. I don't give a flyin' banjo if Willy outperforms Nichols in practice and has a better "toolkit" than Nichols. If he can't make proper decisions in game because he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer, he's no good to us. And not to bring up his salary again, but if you're going to pay someone 400k+ in the CFL.... they better be one of the top players in their position. Right now Willy would be a backup QB option for Saskatchewan, us, maybe Toronto, and Montreal. The rest of the league would pass on this nearly 30 year old with "all sorts of upside".

Yes, I think we're all aware of the ongoing and unrealistic expectations of Willy.
-
Not code. English.
-
Fun fact. Matt Nichols is younger than Drew Willy. True story. I wonder where all the Willy defenders are to suggest that perhaps Nichols will yet turn his career around.
-
It's a perfectly cromulent comparison.
-
These are the same flawed arguments that kept Pavelec in net for years
-
I think we have a large enough sample size on Willy, however. He doesn't have what it takes to be a starting qb.

pretty awesome to watch the riders get trampled like this to a crap team like montreal, on 4 days rest. holy smokes. -
Pot, meet kettle. You're obsession to defend Willy right until his inevitable release is actually shocking. No one here is saying "OH LOOK, IT WAS WILLY ALL ALONG!". It's a lot of people saying the same thing as me: Nichols was a lot better than anything Willy has done this year, combined with a great effort by the line and Harris and it's a world of difference. Had we played Willy last night I could see it being another heart breaking close loss to Edmonton like earlier in the year.
-
Willy is nearly 30 man. What potential? All the hype from Rider fans from 4 years ago? Cmon.
-
It's only insane if you think that Drew Willy is a capable starting qb and the results have been heavily skewed against him because of a bad o line. Willy just isn't the guy. He's gonna make a very good backup some where, but not here for 400k.
-
"Must ... find... way... to **** on this win for Nichols..."
-
Coulda woulda shoulda. Normally I hear these excuses from fans when their team losses. Yet here we are after a win....
-
wtf does Harris running the ball better have to do with how well a QB can read a defense and throw a ball? Are the pro Willy people here that attached to Drew we're going to dissect this win and critique it and say "well, clearly Drew could have done the same with all things being equal". This is like watching people get into mental gymnastics to defend Pavelec his first 3 years.
-
300 yards, a touchdown, no picks, and no drive killing mistakes. And he helped generate 30 points. I don't get how that translates to "not playing very well". Bizarre but you're entitled to your opinion. I was only able to catch half the game and from what I watched he wasn't the MVP but he was a huge part of our win tonight.

Does a blow out against the Tiger-Cats cost MOS his job?
White Out replied to yogi's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think this an attempt at a troll, even though I posted last week that each win probably buys O'Shea a month ( or something like that). So, while I appreciate the attempt to be funny at my expense it's kind of a swing and a miss. Whoever in the head office forced MOS to start Nichols should get a gift basket from the O'Shea family, frankly. -
I don't get the poo pooing of his win tonight. I know he has this "backup QB" brand burned into his rear end apparently, but, he gave us a quality start and a win in Edmonton. A place we haven't won since Milt was on the team. Harris was a beast and the D was awesome, but our QB also contributed and made plays. If Nichols isn't a starting QB then Willy's a 3rd stringer by that measure.
-
That wasn't the question though. If we're just going to say this was the OL, and, Willy would have been just as good behind it, then we're just starting at the result and moving backwards. Nichols clearly had better protection but that also can be a function of him releasing the ball faster, looking off receivers, and pushing the ball further downfield. It's never just one thing. It's a combined effort.
-
So is the narrative now that the OL finally showed up, just in time for Nichols?
