Lawless: Chill Out, Let Miller & Co Do Their Jobs
blueandgoldguy replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
You can continue to state this until you are blue in the face, doesn't make it true. Check and see how long the Argos kept Etch, Stubler and Andrus. Didn't prevent them from signing Milanovich. Hamilton fires Marcel in 2011, Cortez in 2012 and still manage to hire Austin ($$$) in 2013. -
Lawless: Chill Out, Let Miller & Co Do Their Jobs
blueandgoldguy replied to Noeller's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
Which severely limits your options, basically to people who nobody wants. Generally people with opportunities for other jobs have been saying thanks but no thanks when the Bombers put together their shortlist in the last decade because of how dysfunctional the organization has been. Exactly.. I have zero doubts in my mind that we have made offers, probably substantial ones, to the Austins, Buanos, etc when they have come available and they have simply passed because of our history in the last ten seasons. Hamilton's history prior to 2013 was better than Winnipeg? Austin signed on with Hamilton because they made him an offer he couldn't refuse. -
If Jeb won it would be a big improvement over the disaster that was his brother's two-term reign as president.

...But, he's been good for the economy...and that goes a long way. What do you like about what he's done with our economy?Probably all the deficits and recessions. The destruction of our manufacturer sector. So so far we have Harper running around destroying the environment, and in his spare time he takes flame throwers to Canadian manufacturers and destroys them too. Got it. I just don't get what you guys hope to achieve with these kinds of statements. You honestly think people are that stupid? show me what he did to ensure our manufacturing sector was insulated from dutch disease (look it up if you have to) he idid Sweet **** all. He's a bad economic manager. Carney sure dropped the ******* ball with the monetary policy (not Harpers fault) but Harper sure didn't do much with his fiscal policy to alleviate it. So who is a better manager? Just curious. Because that's the real question here. Well we have someone with a piss poor record economically that is trying to pretend our economy is in better shape then it is to get votes promising more of the same And somone with no track record but is at least addressing the fact that the economy is a problem and has some semblance of an actual plan And someone with no track record that claims he will balance the budget but cant work out the math. Not an all star line up but I'll take my chances with the reds. With the reds? You mean Mulcair? I didn't follow your post. Did you see Trudeau on Mansbridge? Did you see our country's recent employment numbers recently. How about the annual deficit the last 7 years? Harper and the conservative party back in 2008 to the Canadian public, "There will not be a deficit." Seemed to say this every second of every day. Then, what happens? Why a $50 billion deficit! How can anyone claim the conservatives are competent at managing the country's affairs when there was such a dramatic discrepancy between the party's claims and actual reality.

The right united for 4 years - hardly a long time. There are many liberals who are right-of-centre. It 's been clear for a year now that we are headed for minority government this fall. Yeah, it's awful that a party, who when last in power led the country to several consecutive years of surpluses and kept Canada out of a horrible and unnecessary war - negating billions in taxpayers' dollars and hundreds of families' loved ones - might actually come back into power. Tell me, what did Harper and the Conservatives do better than the previous Liberal government? It certainly wasn't managing the country's finances. It certainly wasn't a more transparent government. Nor was it a reduction in the patronage appointments to the Senate. Our relationship with the US, our most important trading partner, certainly has not grown stronger since the Conservatives have held power.

Peegate got very little attention. I guess you choose to focus obsessively on some stories more than others. Confirmation bias.

I'm pretty sure the NDP, like the Liberals, will raise taxes on the wealthiest Canadians (Libs would create new tax bracket for those over $200,000).

Nothing more than selective memory.

Pretty much all first world countries have public broadcasters. Sign of progress.

The video I posted of Kavis was a JOKE. A JOKE, people. Get a grip. Kavis lost it saying in the video that there had to be consequences & there weren't. Why wouldn't anyone take that 10 second video for what it was... a joke? I didn't think I had to explain it. i know it was iso but people are legitimately saying we need a coach like this on our sideline because oshea is too quiet.. too reserved.. i was just pointing out how dumb those people are lol. Which people? I'm not one for a ranting coach on the sidelines (see Doug Berry in several instances). Someone who shows a little animation at certain times is fine (Huff). Maybe that is what some people here are advocating for. But if you want to construe forum members' wishes for someone to do more then just stand there with the same look on their face the entire game as wanting an out-of-control ranter go right ahead. That's your misinterpretation.

Exactly. 17 to 85 seems to have this erroneous reasoning that by keeping a Berry or Mack with the organization for a sufficient period of time it will bear fruit in the form of long-term success. In reality, patience will not be rewarded by tolerating mediocrity year after year - it will just result in more mediocrity. Every team in the league won't tolerate losing for very long (proven if you take the time to review each team's history) - they will fire the personnel responsible for the team's underachievement and move on to new coaching/management.The Bombers have been mediocre for so long because they have hired inexperienced/inept coaches and management the past decade plus. It has nothing to do with not showing adequate patience for the inept coaching/personnel. Which, I'd argue, we had no choice but to do because no qualified/experienced coach/manager wants to come here because we are a coaching graveyard that fires people constantly and shows zero patience... No kidding and how people still don't get this is crazy really. See my examples above. Edmonton, Toronto and Hamilton. There are more than these by the way.

Which, I'd argue, we had no choice but to do because no qualified/experienced coach/manager wants to come here because we are a coaching graveyard that fires people constantly and shows zero patience... So how does Toronto hire Barker after firing several coaches in a year or less - fired Etcheverry after 12 games in 2002, fired Rich Stubler after 10 games in 2008, fired Bart Andrus after one season in 2009. Oh wait, I know! It's because the Bomber BOD, in their infinite wisdom, decided Joe Mack was the best person for the job. They also snagged a good one in Milanovich. See all the firings the Edmonton Eskimos made over the past 8 years at GM, and at various coaching positions within the organization. That did not prevent them from hiring one of the best DC and hottest coaching prospect in the league in 2014 did it? See Hamilton firing Bellefool in 2012, then firing Cortez the following season. Did that prevent them from hiring Austin? Bombers have all the choices in the world to hiring quality talent, just as the above mentioned teams did which are no less coaching graveyards then Winnipeg. The difference probably lies in the people doing the hiring.

You don't want to hear it but patience is needed now more than ever. Oh, I hear you...but that particular phrasing is giving me multiple flashbacks... but we haven't been patient at all. Weren't patient with Reinbold which makes sense, weren't patient with Richie or Daley or Berry or Kelly or Mack or anyone. For too long it's been about winning a Grey Cup right ******* now. If only they'd won that 01 game, a lot of grief would have been saved. Richie was the fault of an egomaniacal Bauer. Berry had lost the room and had to be fired. Daley was incompetent and shouldn't have been hired to begin with. Kelly was a disaster to the present and future of the franchise and couldn't have been kept on in 2010 even without the girlfriend incident. Bombers were patient with Mack after the 2012 season. Many private owners would have fired him then. Instead the organization kept him on and it became very apparent he could not accumulate the pieces necessary to even be a .500 team (specifically at QB and the O-line) in 2013 hence the firing.
-
There is nothing there because they keep firing everyone every couple years. These guys may not be the ideal people, but give them a chance to try and build things up a bit before we make that move. Fire them all now and it's right back to square one with no qbs no scouting department and no decent canadian talent on the team prolonging the misery even further. You don't want to hear it but patience is needed now more than ever. Wrong. Hamilton fired Marcel after the 2011 season, fired Cortez after the 2012 season and hired Austin who has taken them to back-to-back Grey Cups and are favorites to return to the Grey Cup. Edmonton made several changes in recent years to their coaching staff and GM the past half-decade and they now have a coach in Chris Jones and GM in Ed Hervey who have made them a winner and Grey Cup contender the past few seasons. If the Bombers continue to struggle the rest of the season, O'shea will be fired and deservedly so. It's shouldn't be that hard to make the playoffs when 6 of 9 teams make it and one of those teams is an expansion team. With regards to Walters, he will be given his three years and if the Bombers fail to make the playoffs next year he will be fired and deservedly so. I don't think there is a GM in the history of the CFL that has survived 3 consecutive seasons with no playoffs. This would not in any way effect the past talent accumulation of the team, in other words NOT back to square one. If the talent is there, then it will be kept on the team. IF it is lacking, as it was under Joe Mack, then there will a purge, but that should not be construed as a setback for the franchise as keeping on an incompetent GM is simply delaying the inevitable Waiting year after year, hoping a struggling GM and coach will somehow get it right if given enough time flies in the face of logic. Ignore the past at your own peril.

[MERGED] Low Down, Rock Bottom (Stone Cold Stunned?)

Even the most positive Bomber poster I have ever read on the official forum, Aardvark, had nothing to say this weekend. At least I didn't see any posts from him which is surprising. -

Another non-contest under way in Hamilton LDC
blueandgoldguy replied to Fatty Liver's topic in Blue Bomber Discussion
I think the game and level of play is better than last year. Still have a little way to go to get to the level of 2013. Good defensive battle in Calgary today. Reilly will make things more interesting next week. -
Miller stated in a radio interview this week that Walters will be given three years. Regardless of what happens the rest of this season I suspect that will not change.

Heard that interview on Hustler and Lawless. Wade said the Bombers are heading in the right direction. -
Miller was on the Hustler and Lawless show this week and he said what they do may not be popular and too slow for the fans and the BOD, but they are going to do things the right way. It was never elaborated in the interview what the right way is. I'm assuming it means not trading away draft picks and continuing to build through the draft.

Heard Hustler say, " Pilsner - the Saskatchewan champagne."
