  1. I suggest that extremism has a few defining features: tendency to violence, a viewpoint that force is acceptable to foment change. resorting to racist/exist/homophobic/xenophobic language, the attitude that "people don't know what is good for them so I must impose my values", seeing others as subhuman.
  2. Vladimir Putin issues 'dirty bomb' threat in response to drone strike on Moscow: report Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday rekindled his "threats" of a "dirty bomb" incident as a potential response to a drone strike on a residential building in Moscow that was reportedly carried out by Ukraine. "Ukrainian citizens need to understand that there are other threats as well, for instance, attempts to disrupt the operation of the Zaporizhzhia Nuclear Power Plant or use 'dirty' devices related to nuclear technology," Putin said in an interview with Director Svetlana Chupsheva General of the Agency for Strategic Initiatives according to The Washington Examiner. "We have talked about this more than once. We know what they have in mind." Russian forces seized control of the facility in March 2022 shortly after Putin launched his illegal invasion of Ukraine, which has killed tens of thousands of people on both sides and spurned allegations of war crimes at the hands of Putin's troops. Per The Washington Examiner, "Putin attributed such a plot to Ukrainian authorities, reiterating an accusation previously aired by Russian defense officials in October — and perceived around the world as a thinly veiled Russian threat of nuclear escalation in response to Ukraine's fall counteroffensive. He renewed that allegation moments after broaching the topic of retaliation for the Tuesday morning drone attack, which caused only 'minor damage' but shocked Moscow's government and paramilitary elites, as U.N. officials scrambled to avoid a military showdown for control of the plant." Putin also claimed that Kyiv is trying to instigate Moscow into committing future attacks.
  3. You are mistaken in saying that I stated that Smith tried to influence the election- what I said was that she tried to influence the judicial process, and then lied about it. Whether you commit an indictable or summary offence now or six months ago, is irrelevant. She broke the law and no resorting to "it was long ago/my statement was taken out of context/I didn't mean it that way/whataboutism" is going to change that. The right-wing M.O. has often been to throw out some red meat to their followers and then backpedal. Ms. Smith said aloud what much of her base believes and they both deserve scrutiny. If you believe that Ms. smith and the UCP decided spontaneously to hold an election, you are being naïve. Elections are almost always planned well in advance with announcements and rallies scheduled well in advance.
  4. Your position is still that it didn't happen during the lection, so ll her gaffes are irrelevant. She did what she did about trying to influence the judicial process, she said that she said about privatizing hospitals, seizing airports and supporting Russian aggression. She may be stupid but she said what she knew would resonate with her troglodytes.
  5. But then he could no longer pose as a victim and that attitude resonates so well with his intended base.
  6. You have every right to be cynical- Trump and his crime family has escaped justice for some 90 years. If I had to put someone on the trail of a ruthless, powerful and corrupt person, I would want someone who was brilliant, methodical and relentless. Merrick Garland fits that description and so does the prosecutor in charge of the investigation, I am cautiously hopeful because now they have testimony that Trump wilfully directed staff to move and conceal classified documents. They could not have hoped for a better smoking gun, and now at least two of Trump's lawyers have cooperated with the investigation. Trump's social media postings have become more and more hysterical, showing that he is aware that he is approaching the gallows with no chance of escape.
  7. BREAKING: Trump’s chances of going to prison skyrocket as The Guardian drops bombshell on Trump, reveals that, “Donald Trump’s lawyer tasked with searching for classified documents at Mar-a-Lago after the justice department issued a subpoena told associates that he was waved off from searching the former president’s office, where the FBI later found the most sensitive materials anywhere on the property.” But it gets even worse for Trump… The Guardian continues: “The lawyer found 38 classified documents in the storage room. He then asked whether he should search anywhere else but was steered away, he told associates. The lawyer never searched Trump’s office and told prosecutors that the 38 papers were the extent of the material at Mar-a-Lago. The assertion that there were no classified documents in Trump’s office or elsewhere proved to be wrong when the FBI retrieved 101 classified documents months afterwards, including from the office, which was found to be where the most highly classified documents had been located. The lawyer previously unreported account, as relayed to the Guardian by two people familiar with the matter, suggests he was materially misled as the special counsel Jack Smith examines whether his incomplete search was actually a ploy by Trump to retain classified documents.” This is DEVASTATING for Trump. It shows not just criminal intent, but consciousness of guilt — two legal elements that are sure to doom Trump once Special Counsel Jack Smith criminally charges him for stealing highly classified documents — and then lying about to federal investigators.
  8. Not being accountable for the things you say if enough time passes is an interesting deflection of responsibility.
  9. The Wild Rose and Take Back Alberta people are firmly in control of the party and agenda. As the UPC rules, more and more of the moderates will "quiet quit" and the UPC will devolve even more into GOP-like policies. Smith did everything she could to throw the election- interfering in the judicial process, threatening to have Calgary and Edmonton police seize the airports there, cheered for the Russians and promised to pick fights with the federal government over anything and everything. And she and the UPC still won the election. That is what Albertabama has become.
  10. THIS!! There are not always two sides to an incident. I suggest that the "well, you have to bear in mind" reaction to a problematic event is actually worse than outright support of the offender. If the miscreants are overt and displayed as such, they generate disgust. When you have someone on a news service or public forum stating there are two sides to racism, corruption, violence and the like, it gives validation to the offender(s) and contributes to excrement like Trump.
  11. If Haba is as versatile, fast and smart as he seems to be, I would be tempted to audition him at MLB. A 260 pound greyhound at MLB would be awesome, but adapting to the CFL may be an obstacle.
  12. Read an interview of Haba. He presented as confident, intelligent team-oriented and versatile- plays either rush end or linebacker, so he has to be quick, fast and smart. Now to see if he lives up to the hype.
  13. Do not entertain any ideas that all doctors are altruistic and primarily concerned with the welfare of their patients. In my previous work, I interacted with many doctors and was shocked to learn how self-serving many of them were. Their medical educations were and still are heavily subsidized by taxpayers and they are VERY well-paid for the vital work and brutal hours. The majority of them tend towards right-wing political views as many of them believe that they have more influence over those governments to reward them. These would be just as happy if not happier in private systems for that reason. The doctors who have empathy for a universal system are probably a minority. Typically, the best doctors I knew were also caring and supported the current system and I would think these would be the first to leave under and private system. The worst doctors were generally self-serving and chafed under the rules that prevented them from setting their own fees. They were usually the ones who were jackholes and treated subordinate staff like servants.
  14. Robert Falcon-Ouelette is an intelligent, well-spoken person, but I understand he is also a medical doctor, and we need another MD in practice way more than we need another MP.
  15. It has been a PC problem for some time. The sin is not thinking it or saying it behind closed doors but getting caught.
  16. Not a Merlot? Red meat, you know. And you gotta use stemmed goblets or it looks trashy in the park.
  17. Can we say ethnic cleansing?? The Russians have done this to Tatars, Poles and Latvians as well as Ukrainians; Putin today signed a law allowing the deportation of Ukrainians from the occupied territories.
  18. Gotta let the faithful know you will be there for their proselytization.
  19. Its a novelty. It remains to be seen if this is sustainable- the previous basketball teams here have not lasted.
  20. One of the most bizarre things I have ever heard of was when the Reagan administration used public funds to hold a massive seminar to advise American businesses on how to send jobs offshore.
